Honestly, I'd be willing to say Biden planned this. Making your opponent dedicate massive resources to fight one battle, only to reveal that battle won't actually matter and those resources have wffectively been wasted is some Sun Tzu level machinations. @@marissaxrogue7971 I don't necessarily disagree with you, but it does depend on when the decision was actually made. I think it's very possible that Joe insisting on holding on was genuine so the decision was actually pretty recent. Either way, the timing was just about perfect for all purposes.

Look at it this way. By dropping out of the race when he did, Biden made milluons of dollars worth of attavk ads worthless. The Republican party went whole hog attacking his age and mental state, and now they are the ones running a elderly man with questionable mental faculties.
I honestly eouldnt be surprised if Biden planned part of this, luring Republicans to lean hard on how a 'dottering old man' shouldn't be president, which now isnt what the Democrats are running. I think there were a lot of smarmy former Obama admin people, who thought they were political geniuses for getting one of the most charismatic politicians and greatest orators of our time elected, and then they got sour when the new admin didn't require their services. There's a lot of opportunistic democrats in DC who saw a chance to twist the knife into a great president and dedicated public servant, and I don't like it.
Joe was going to cause us to lose horribly, he did the selfless, hard, & patriotic thing by stepping aside & handing the torch to the next generation. Let’s praise & honor him for that & all of his accomplishments

I am more in love with Biden than ever. What a gracious, kind, unselfish gentleman in every sense of the word. He is the best example of leadership we have seen for many decades. I am one of those people who preferred Biden, and was feeling heartbroken that other democrats were trying to force him to step down. But now the choice has been made, and there has been such enthusiasm and incredible fund raising following the decision that I'm feeling more relief rather than heartache.
Biden is a good guy. And I think he genuinely likes people. There are stories of him as a senator speaking with his constituents on the train into DC every day since, Delaware isn't that far of a trip.
They've tried as hard as they could to pin something on him, and couldn't find anything, which is truly impressive since he's been in politics for something like 60 years. Usually people have done something a little scandalous and made a bad choice at some point. But they couldn't find anything on him. He is what he appears to be in terms of integrity.
And I'll admit to a bias and hoping that he'd just step down. Not out of dislike for him, but because I'd really like someone younger and more energetic as president at this point.
But he really, really could not continue after that debate. It was awful. And it wasn't because Trump was running circles around him. Biden seemed totally confused. It could just be age, or it could be the infirmities that come with age, but it was truly awful.
And I'm used to his gaffes. Even kind of like them. Most of them come about because his mouth can't keep up with his brain, but if you're listening, you could figure out what he meant. The debate issues, though, that wasn't the same thing. Those were genuinely concerning.

I'm angry corp dems disrespected my primary vote for Biden. I'm disgusted with corporate media for holding Biden to impossible standards while holding tfg to none. I'm delighted that Kamala Harris is the candidate and am doing everything I can to get her elected.
While I do understand your frustration, you also need to realize that the "primary" vote doesn't actually happen until the convention. While some may have voted for Biden in a primary, others didn't even have to. But just like with the popular vote in November, the actual binding vote is at the convention, and electoral college respectively.
I'm on the same page as you. Angry that the corporate media went after Biden the way they did--I was totally supportive of him. But I also knew that Biden would read the room and make his own decision about staying or withdrawing. So I have to accept his choice and will enthusiastically support Harris. Would love to see her nominated and for her to rip TFG a new one in the debate.

What I find so hysterical is that Biden dropping out in favor of Harris was a real possibility for weeks, and they didn’t seem to prepare for it at all. I will vote blue because I want to, and I will not shut up. I still think, as do many others, that Kamala is the weakest candidate in terms of defeating Trump (with the exception of Joe Biden of course). Not saying she won't win, but I really don't like taking this big a risk, "playing games" when the stakes are so high and the (non-proportional) electoral college is still in place. If this is "not a game" then why is the Democratice establishment putting all their backing behind Kamala (who dropped out of the 2020 primaries before the Iowa caucus to save herself from being massively humilated by the lack of support she had in her own party) like they did with Hillary (who was also not very popular among Democrats) and we all know how that turned out.

I live in Ireland 🇮🇪 . We can have an election 😅in two weeks. And within 14 days have a new parliament and Prime Minister. In France, they just did that. In Britain it was 6 weeks ...and everyone was exhausted but they have a new govt. How does it have to take 2 years for Americans ? Most people make their choice 2/ 3 weeks before hand.
It's all about the money. Takes time to rustle up that much. Imagine how much richer the US could be if it spent all that on infrastructure and investment in future technologies instead of wasting it on campaigns.

UK elections are 6 weeks from the day they are called (we don't stick to regular dates) to voting day. There is a set timescale for nominations to be filed, mail-in votes registered, list of candidates announced, mail-in votes sent out etc. We manage this no problem, we only have voting on one day (except for mail-in ones) and all votes are usually counted by the next morning.

Every Democrat I know (and I know a lot of them) are excited and energized. Joe did well but if you are honest - he looked, spoke and acted more frail every single day. I had no engagement with him at all. Now I’m so enthused and have already donated.
