GOP: " How can I gain political points with this disaster?"
The population: "But we need the help as soon as possible!"
GOP: "Shut up! This is not about you!!!"
THIS!
This reeks of the pettiness we saw during covid when Trump was delaying sending aid to some states saying to their governors "You should have been nicer to me!"
@@YukonBloamie The political move to call it a delay when it isn't, to blame the Feds when really nobody is to blame, attempting to create political divisiveness where none existed and none is necessary? Yes, that is reminiscent of Trump's pettiness.
Meanwhile, Biden has made a point of sending needed aid to any request as quickly as possible, perhaps even faster to red states than blue states.
Isn't it weird how when Republicans have the job everything is a political weapon first and a needed service second, but when Democrats have the job everything is a needed service first, and a political weapon second? It may seem like a minor difference, but that delay often costs lives and livelihoods. It would be great if we had a viable political party that never felt the need to turn such events into opportunities to politically grandstand, but I don't think the American people are even capable of supporting such a party. We don't deserve such nice things...
That is the demonrats " never let a good crisis go to waste " B. Obama. Then he s*cked off big Mike!
Trump's Covid aid was routed to red counties in my blue state. The least populated places had the most supplies, and they had no authority to transfer anything.

Good to know! voting for Biden is a vote for demarcrocy!
Beryl hit Mexico as a cat3, and their power was back up in 24 hours. Beryl hit texas as cat1/tropical storm, and they're still struggling to get power to people. So, Mexico is officially better than Texas. Think about that, Abbott fans.
I’ll bet Mexico’s maternal mortality rates are not as bad as Texas either. Texas is a disaster.
Maybe give texas back to Mexico😁
Abbott was telling the President of the United States to call him for permission to help Texans, but that you the way it works.
@@Mark5mithMaybe Texans could have lifesaving, reliable power then!
Bingo.

Me thinks you be paraphrasing the fiddler on the roof prayer.Good one.
And May your ministers be as godly as Robert Tilton
And may their electrical grid operate as well as Abbott’s TX in an emergency. The rot is throughout the GOP even if tfg is the avatar.
And may God keep the mango mussolini far away from us.
Damn might as well say "bless your heart".😂
It's transparently obvious they're trying to play this as 'Sleepy Joe couldn't deliver aid fast enough'.
Yep.
@@KGshowfan I second your "Yep".
That was my first thought
Yep
And the media will helpfully play along.
What kind of Governor wouldn’t request federal aid and would wait for a call? A really bad one.
I wouldn't give that fascist sack any money if he requested it anyway. Same with FL who has an even more fascist sack. They can all wallow in their suffering.
Ron deSantis has rejected some 11 billion so far. In Florida we don’t need no dirty Federal money for health coverage, disability services, mental health funding, climate resiliency programs, and some other woke stuff.
He left Texas before the hurricane just like Cruz did for the winter storms and there in lies what really has people upset. He left and didn't get back until after it was over.
Oh, you mean like Abbott ?
@Leonaza7 Yes ma'am. I live in this state, the folk at the Executive level here are HOT GARBAGE, they're as lazy & TRIFLING as you might imagine. MANY of us tried to boot them during the last midterm, it didn't happen because NO TURNOUT. Hopefully, we can kick Cancun Snooze to the curb & get Colin Allred, I'm certainly gonna do my part but we'll see. Peace to you & yours, respect. 👊🏽🙏🏽
The same man that said, “Everything was done right at Uvalde.” Then become livid.
Yeah, dude got salty that his victory lap and photo op were ruined.
But everything WAS done right. Not a single cop lost their life.
Remember a cops first duty is to preserve his or her own safety. They have no duty to protect anyone but themselves.
And that has been codified by the Supreme Court.
(And no I don’t like it, but that is the way it is…)
Perspectives and priorities seem skewed there. So the people get screwed there.
@@josebrown5961 Very few people know that they do not have the duty to protect the public! it has been proven that they only serve their police union. So, about the PROPAGANDA SLOGAN that they so happily plaster on their "shops" all over the country TO SERVE AND PROTECT... it has TWO LIES RIGHT THERE!
AWOL Abbott !! Texas Republican Officials seem to run away from climate events at warp speed..Cowards! Traitors! They want to rule not represent!!
A Texas official trying to scapegoat others for local failures? Why is this not a surprise?

Isn’t it so ironic that the one state that worships its sense of independence and says “Don’t Mess With Texas” will have their hand out so fast and with tons of entitlement during a disaster?
The only objection I have with your statement is the reference to a anti-littering campaign.
I understand your confusion because the mouth breathing rednecks have co-opted the slogan for other uses.
But they won't give poor residents healthcare by expanding Medicaid under the ACA.
And the reality is that American citizens SHOULD get help in a disaster. I just hate that the GOP will try to withhold help if it's a blue state while Democrats always immediately make sure the help is provided regardless of where.
@@johnchedsey1306 Republicans are willing to use collective punishment.
That really says something about Republicans.
Yep, let the corruption continue, syphoning funds to others of their ilk.
Of course Abbott will make a disaster into something political.
Yep, they LOVE to play politics with American lives and d find joy in our suffering.😡
He's trying to cover his butt - people are pissed off that he was out of the country and evidently didn't give a damn about what was coming toward Texas or how bad it got.

Such selfish, undedicated leaders in Texas who leave the state during major disasters:
Cruz went to Cancun during the ice storm.
Abbott went to Taiwan during the hurricane storm.
Please, Texas… elect compassionate leaders this year!
Cruz did it again and was in California whale watching as Beryl hit our state. The rig is in, as usual, in Texas for the Rethuglical party.
Not to worry, abbott and the Texas republicans will blame it on the democrats.

“No class or group or party in Germany could escape its share of responsibility for the abandonment of the democratic Republic and the advent of Adolf Hitler. The cardinal error of the Germans who opposed Nazism was their failure to unite against it.”

I will vote against the fascist GOP. Will you? And will you do what you can to warn your fellow citizens of the danger we face?
Abbott deregulated the energy grid in TX. And now people hit by the hurricane are dropping from heat and no way to cool off with no power. Never elect a GOP candidate if you want your safety to be protected.

FACT CHECK: The Truth About Biden’s Failed Presidency
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Last night, Biden and President Trump participated in the first presidential debate of the year. President Biden tried to paint a picture that his presidency has been good for the American people, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
The House Budget Committee is here with the facts on last night’s claims by Biden. Economy:
Biden misled the American people about the pain his failed economic policies have inflicted. Under the Biden Administration, our country is at the highest level of indebtedness in history, inflation has soared nearly 20 percent, and the American dream has grown increasingly out of reach for millions of people.
inflation HealthCare
Some of the startling statistics under Biden’s economy:
Prices are up nearly 20%, costing American families more than $17,000 per year.
The labor force participation rate of 62.5 percent is still below the prepandemic level of 63.3 percent, meaning 2.08 million fewer Americans are in the labor force when adjusted for population gains.
Interest rates were near zero percent before Biden, now they are over five percent.
The Consumer Confidence Index is down 24 percent since February 2020, underscoring Americans’ pessimism about their fiscal future.
Inflation:
CLAIM: Biden said he is “working to bring down the price around the kitchen table” for Americans.
FACT: The truth is, families continue to struggle under the weight of high prices, spurred by over-regulation and out-of-control spending. Since January 2021, inflation has increased by 19.3 percent. With average weekly earnings increasing by just 14.6 percent in the same time period, the price of goods has outpaced family income over the past three years. The runaway spending of unified Democrat control continues to pump unprecedented amounts of money into the economy, further threatening high inflation for taxpayers.
CLAIM: Biden claims to care about America’s fiscal health.
FACT: The reality is that under Biden, the cost to service our debt has skyrocketed. interest spending has increased by $540 billion or 153 percent in the three years since President Biden took office. Our country now spends more to service the debt than we do on our national defense.
Jobs:
CLAIM: Biden stumbled over his words stating he created 15,000 jobs, before correcting himself to say 15 million, claiming that his administration saw record job creation.
FACT: The truth is that he inherited historic post-pandemic job recovery, plus the current labor force participation rate is still below pre-pandemic levels, meaning there are 2.08 million fewer Americans in the labor force when adjusting for population gains than before the pandemic.

Haitian Migrant Charged with Rape of Massachusetts Girl Released on $500 Bail
FAIR Take | July 2024
Last week, the New York Post reported that a Haitian migrant charged with raping a 15-year-old girl in a migrant shelter in Rockland, Massachusetts, was released on $500 bail. The case is a tragic example of how the most vulnerable are hurt by BIDEN DEMOCRAT open-borders and sanctuary policies.
Two Illegal Aliens from Venezuela Charged in Murder of Jocelyn Nungaray
FAIR Take | July 2024
Franklin Ramos and Johan Martinez, two illegal aliens from Venezuela, have been charged with capital murder in the killing of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray. Both suspects are currently being held in the Harris County jail on $10 million bond and ICE has also placed a detainer on both men. As confirmed by ICE last week, Ramos and Martinez are illegal aliens from Venezuela who were detained at the southern border and then released into the country, courtesy of the Biden administration’s immigration policies.
According to police, Jocelyn was brutally assaulted and murdered on June 16. While details of the crime are still surfacing, according to media reports Jocelyn went on a late-night walk in North Houston, Texas the night of June 16, when she was approached by two men at a convenience store, later identified as Franklin Jose Pena Ramos and Johan Rangel Martinez, 22. They reportedly lured her to a nearby bridge on West Rankin Road where they brutally assaulted Jocelyn, killed her, and tossed her body into a creek bed. According to Jocelyn’s autopsy report, she was found bound with rope and nude from the waist down, with multiple lacerations on her neck and back. Her cause of death was determined to be strangulation.

They don't want "small government" when it comes to trans folk and pregnant people.
This breakage has gone on for decades! When is it time to notice and oppose the _ongoing_ plan?
Abbot screwed Texans yet again.
Also, worthy of note, Abbott put Ken Paxton "in charge" of handling any fallout from the storm.
When those two do anything - expect cruelty and political scheming to be involved. They have a bit of a track record for this.
I am so confused
Texas is always telling us that they want to leave the union. Now they want federal aid.
Odd
Yoink all the federal money/installations/agencies out of Texas and what do you have left?
Armadillos and a**holes!
😁
...The main Texit group is taking funding from Russia.
Interesting, right?
They do this shit every time. So sick of our Texas GQPers incompetence.
It's not like Mexico wants it back, either.
Texas is always pulling this crap.
Also of note, Paxton was put "in charge" of the fallout from the storm before Abbott took off for Asia.
Anytime those two do anything together it seems to result in cruelty, political scheming, devastating fallout for the people of Texas, and more of the nation's tax dollars covering their a**es. These guys need to be voted out but it would take a landslide because of gerrymandering and gop propaganda that has been rampant there for at least the last twenty years.
As a Texan, I still blame our Texas state government. Cruze went to Cancun. Abbott ran all the way to Asia.
Texas officials: It's the federal government's fault we suck so bad at our jobs.

True.
He's GREAT!
I have become disillusioned with some of the "progressive" podcasts, but Beau never disappoints.
Consistently so!
He was my first podcast I ever watched. You’re right he is the best.

It's Texas, that shouldn't be a surprise at this point. I love snarky Beau, we don't get enough.
Unfortunately, with Texas, we get a _lot_ of opportunity for Snarky Beau.
The next time you have a car wrecked, just call it a Texas chariot.
Ah but the reasons we get snarky beau are often astonishingly disappointing at best. His snark is... I guess a bit of a silver lining on a thunderhead of GOP bullshit?
😢
Texas sucks so there’s that.
I don't even consider that snarky; it's just fact.
Classic Texas state government bs
Aren't Texas state officials always talking about seceding from the US? Why would they care about Federal dollars and aide?
First of all, they cannot seceding from the US. They can break into 4 other states - but what the heck - Texans think they own everything. I moved here many years ago for a good job and lived here during Ann Richards' administration. But then the Republicans took over. Now I'm a senior citizen with a homestead and don't know where to move, but I am looking.
The texas gop spin answer to your question is "because we do still pay taxes" not me saying that mind you.
It's so weird that the "we can run our power grid better without you" state is now blaming the Feds for not helping them faster. What happened, I thought Abbott had this covered?
Texas officials certainly get around.
Just not in Texas.
I think Taiwan had an alert to lock up their children and farm animals.
Much of this can easily be explained with "it's Texas".
The Texas GOVERNMENT is to blame. Abbott and his cronies are rolling/walking scum.
I'm a Texan, btw. I look forward to voting their sorry @$$#$ out.
Nothing's certain but death in Texas?
The rest can probably be explained by "It's an election year."
The 'South' is still the 'South'
Texas, the weather happens: powergrid falls over.
It's barely July and a category 1 devastated one of our biggest cities. It's nice to know how unprepared and vulnerable we are here in Texas...
Yeah. It's gonna be a really interesting hurricane season.
Who is saying Biden was too slow? Fox entertainment network? A bunch of republicanTs? If the Whitehouse had everything ready those folks would whine about something else.
That's the thing, yes -- they *always* move the goalposts. The Biden administration could facilitate a cure for cancer, distribute it for free at need, and Faux News would be yelling about "Why didn't they cure cancer *last* year? Why did they wait? Conspiracy! Conspiracy!" It's always the same BS.
Everything is bigger in Texas, including the mountains made out of molehills.
Dying from heat is no small thing. Suffering unnecessarily because your 'leaders' can't be bothered to do their job is no small thing.

The cynic in me says this is about trying to make the Biden admin look bad going into the election tbh. Abbot /adores/ this kind of performative cruelty as far as I can tell. It's an ugly, ugly thing
Pretty much 🤬
It’s the GOP way!
That's how Abbott plays it.
Sounds like whomever is making a fuss about this in TX, cares more about politics than helping the people of TX.

I hope that you, your family and your neighbors are safe. I hope you didn't get flooding. I've seen lots of images of piles of "garbage" outside of homes that were flooded out: furniture, carpeting, mattresses, fridges and stoves, etc., and now all that trash has to be disposed of. Where does it go? Will there be rat infestations that now have to be dealt with? What about a gigantic rise in mosquitoes? And how do you know the water supply will be safe to use for drinking, cooking and bathing again - do you trust the word of government officials where you live? Geez - this is insane, it's just downright insane we have to wonder these days about such things.
Our fence is down in the back, but it was in bad shape anyway.

Florida found out a long time ago to ask for FEMA assistance before disaster hits. The Governor has to declare a state of emergency and ask for the emergency declaration. We know to request it before a hurricane.

My place is similar. We don't get Hurricanes but fall and winter storms are normal to the point that _not_ having at least one 10+ Beaufort storm a year is considered remarkable and anything below 65 knots doing any significant damage to things is seen as a sign of poor maintenance.

Rather that, once again, while their state is facing difficulties, Republican representatives dropped the ball and were off trying to capitalize on Democrat-produced economic benefits that they constantly try to derail, ( Abbott was in Asia trying to secure interest in Texas from Asian businesses to invest because of the Chips & Science Act initiative) all while trying to scapegoat the Democrat-led government for failures that fall directly under their purview. Whether it was a small failure or not has no bearing on the fact that it WAS a(nother) failure, it was THEIR failure, and that the next failure could easily cost many, many more Americans their lives.
Yeah very tone deaf from Beau. Quite surprising but not as of late.
Funny how they are always saying they don’t want the government in their lives, until they need something.
I shouldn't have to tell you what I need. You should know.
I've raised two daughters and a granddaughter. That phrase rings a bell.
I would still blame the Texas officials. They aren't unaware of their chewing-gum-and-string electrical infrastructure. They have prior experience with what happens even with Cat 1 storms. They should have asked for the declaration on the 6th or even the 7th.

Howdy folks
I guess it's easier to whine than to sign a little paperwork.
Whining gets more attaboys from the MAGA base.
To my few friends in Texas.....good luck M-FER'S! Hahahaha. Vote Blue baby. 🔵🇺🇲1775🇺🇲🔵
As a blue dot in a red state, I can't wait for the day that Abbott is rolled out of the governor's mansion for good!

For any Texans in the comments who are Very Upset
Hi, I'm a military spouse.
My husband's last tour took us to the island of Guam for 3 years.
In the first year Typhoon ( same as a hurricane, we just call it a Typhoon if it forms below the equator and a Hurricane if it forms above it cause humans are silly ) Magnkhut crossed over the island as a catagory 3 and grew into a catagory 4 while on top of it.
Guam is a US Territory. Their citizens pay taxes, follow American laws... and are denied citizenship. They are instead filed as American Nationals. Guam is not a state, so while the island does get to elect representatives, those representatives are not permitted to speak in the house or senate *Unless Invited To.*
There are 200,000 people on the island of Guam. They get 1 DMV in a gigantic wearhouse building That Is Also The Tax Office. Arrive at dawn and you'll still be in line till noon. No, you can't register your lisence plate online-- but you CAN renew your tabs online. Funny, that.
Point is this is a place where the US government IS the government, where people pay federal taxes to the US government, and do not get to speak or be seen on capital hill 99% of the time.
When Magnkhut was approaching the island, the T-COR countdown began; approximent days till landfall. Guam is ALWAYS in T-COR 4 because This Is Where Storms Form, So at any time you can be 4 days from a storm making landfall.
At T-COR 2 the state of emergancy is delcared, as standard, and requests for assistance was made.
The storm lasted for nearly 2 days, during which time I ( as expected and prepped for ) lost power.
I did not get power back for another 4 once the island was cleared.
And that request for assistance? Mr. Trump ignored it for 2 whole weeks from the request being made.
Then another storm formed, near another US Territory Island; American Samoa.
A LOT of Not Quite Rich But Well Off Americans go to American Samoa to study abroad without *technically* leaving the USA.
The storm that formed and would go over the island was a catagory 2. American Samoa declared an emergacy, submitted their request for assistance, and IMMEDIATELY got it.
A day later relief was approved for Guam; a requirement if you want your insurance to cover the damage from the storm as an act of god; no co pay and no rate increase because It Was Not Your Fault In Any Way.
I know that doesn't make your time any less scary. I was terrified when the storm hit, before I knew how long I'd be roughing it. Its freakin scary and Wishing Help Coulda Come Faster is a totally normal thing to *feel* after an experience with the raw might of the planet itself.
The people around you are scared, too. Is being angry about a slow response gonna do anything for you or them?
Guam is used to going it alone with typhoons. Even when the federal government didn't respond, local leadership was out setting up tents, handing out water, directing search and rescue when people reported loved ones missing, arranging meals as the repairs for the electrical grid took more than a day-- and they coulda brought those meals TO people if they'd had a dozen more hands to ensure the disabled and elderly weren't starving or dying of dehydration. But NOT getting help didn't stop them from undertaking the next step and making sure as many as possible survived through the storm and were able to get back to their lives.
You wanna get back to your life, so does everyone around you. Start looking around for someone doing SOMETHING to help, and ask if they could use an extra set of hands. Or check in on the most vulnerable people you know to make sure they got through okay. Call loved ones Who Don't Know You're Alive and let them know you made it.
Many hands make little work; the key is getting the party started.
As a Democrat from Central Texas, I still think it's a scary possibility that Trump may pick my Governor Greg Abbott to be his V.P. pick.
No problem, if Trump does not become president.
Just when I thought my day couldn't get any worse...
That won't happen, rump can't stand handicapped people, he's says they make him look bad
No way! Abott's in a wheelchair. Wouldn't look good enough for tRump.
OMG. Fellow TX Dem & I hadn't thought of that. BUT, Trump didn't want to be seen with injured vets, so having HotWheels around might be too disturbing for him.
Thanks!
They need to impeach their governor
I think you nailed it Beau - I think it's political posturing.
✌🏻Beau
Well, we now have Cancun Cruz and Asia Abbott, who both disappeared when Texas needed them.
I live in Pasadena Texas which is a suburb of Houston and today is our fourth day without power and they’re not even giving us an estimate for how long it will be!

Ask Puerto Ricans about delays in federal assistance. Thanks, Trump, for the paper towels.
