The Incredible Evolution Of Virtual Reality
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 июл 2020
- VR is rapidly changing with new technology, especially since new consoles keep evolving like the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Along with lightning fast PC's, here's what to expect in the future, while looking at where this tech came from.
As gamers, we are constantly dealing with new gimmicks that are supposed to “change the industry”. The Nintendo Power Glove. The XBox Kinect. Cheap 3D Effects. Toys to Life games like Skylanders. And through it all, we’ve seen countless attempts at virtual reality gaming. The world of VR sounds too good to be true, but companies have finally broke through and delivered some pretty great games.
SEGA was the first company to take a big leap in VR with their announcement of the SEGA VR in 1991. The success of the Sega Master Drive and Genesis helped boost the company’s portfolio and led to more development opportunities. Unfortunately, the SEGA VR never got a mainstream release. Showcased year after year, SEGA never got the VR system off the ground, running into technological problems and not delivering on the experience they promised. The only way to use the SEGA VR was through select machines found at SEGA World or SEGA Park, exclusive theme park arcades located throughout the United Kingdom. Join us on a journey as we go through the complete history of VR gaming. We dive deep into Nintendo’s multiple attempts at VR devices, how amusement parks are changing the game, and how the future of VR will help bring back the arcade experience. See how the console wars will completely change VR including some pretty incredible social VR tech from Microsoft!
Now let’s travel back to explore the world of VR, how a common toy helped the process, and see how our grandparents were using VR decades before we were even born.

My friend had a virtual boy, i never played it, i remember asking him about it and he said "oh that thing sucks" , years later i figured out it was the virtual boy. Virtual boy- one day this will be highly collectible until then it sucks
it already IS highly collectible, i own mine since the day it came out, with like 3 games... still got it in its original box and used it like 2 times

I’m shocked how games like Pong, where you just moved a platform to hit a ball, evolved into completely new worlds, letting you feel the game like it’s the real world.
All within the past 40 years as well. It’s crazy to think where gaming and vr will be for future generations

How on Earth did they manage to make a video about the history of VR and not even mention the Quest? Not to sound like a fanboy or anything, but the Quest has been huge for VR
Yeah
What exactly did it do? There was already finger tracking and wireless adapters for the vive
@@Samtonit massively exploded the market for quality AND affordable VR?
Brought VR to the masses, and it's easily the best headset to introduce people into VR with. Not to mention the fact that the Quest can do just about everything a PCVR headset can and more. If you seriously think the Quest hasn't made a significant contribution to VR as a whole, you couldn't be more wrong
@@Samtonit also it's the first generation of wireless full on 6dof stand alone VR... so you know... not a big deal...

yes
i was just about to comment that.
It's interesting how he didn't talk about the Valve Index.
I WAS GONNA SAY THAT. The valve index revolutionized VR tech.
Or the quest
Or anything that has been anounced or released recently.
@@epsteindidntkillhimself6581 they would have to tell you it was sponsored or face a fine or other penalty depending on your laws
He talked about the quest and no htc vive that made it all hapen
It's odd that phone VR was mentioned. Since that's one of the things that actually set VR back quite a bit. Making people think that VR was nothing more than just a badly executed gimmick.
Yes and no. It also enabled people (like me) to get access to the immersion.
Shut up
He did mention it
Many people are inable to buy an actual VR headset, for various reasons, so Phone-Based VR is their only option. And at least it works.
The machines shown when talking about Sega VR parks are actually Virtuality machines created by W-Industries (they were installed at various locations back in the day like Legend Quest in Nottingham), and had nothing to do with Sega. They were pretty much the only common (or reasonably common) VR machines I ever encountered back in the 90s.

These guys sound like my 40 year old uncle who hasn’t touched a game since the N64
9:41 the thing about this is that you can hop in vr almost anytime. Besides at some big room that lets you play for 5 minutes for $50, you are limited by usually one game, very limited time, and constant costs if you wanna play more. Playing at home has its cons, but you are way more free
...and you have access to immersion for all other things (movies, avatars, meetings, work...).

8:31 AltspaceVR just looks like a crappy ripoff of VRChat and I can't believe there are no comments on this
Altspace and VR Chat were both in development at the same time during the early Rift DK1 days, so I wouldn't say either is really a rip off of the other. VR Chat certainly offers way more than Altspace does (though Altspace is a much more curated and generally calmer experience).
Altspace is better for VR based classes and gatherings, cuz of the less distracting avatars and environments
vrchat is definitely better for socialising and playing games, but altspace has really good cards against humanity on it lmao
altspace doesnt require a high graphics card so you could just view it on an oculus go, also its available already on the oculus store
They look nothing alike
I bought a Labo VR and like it, I admittedly play PS4 VR beat saber more often.
It is a work of a very talented editor..!

No research or care went into this video, much less your others, Missing key events like the quest introducing mainstream untethered vr or the valve index revolutionizing pcvr with its finger tracking and 144 hz HMD, and Pimax with their 4k displays and high fov in their Pimax 8k, But I understand why you would not talk about pc since your videos are targeted toward children who don't understand the difference between a psvr and true pcvr.

They also forgot to mention the dk1 and dk2 rift headsets. Such a lazy video
Not to mention he got a name of a highly well known and documented sega console, he also didn't mention valve's and oculus's relationship which drastically advanced both head sets before the 2016 release. I’m saving for the Oculus Quest 2 right now, but for now I use the PSVR, it’s amazing! The tech is so cool and fascinating, but, the tracking is pretty outdated and not easy to use. But I don’t mind too much, as long as I’m having fun I don’t care. I mainly play the walking dead saints and sinners, beat saber, gun club VR, and Arizona Sunshine. They’re all great games and hold my attention for hours, the headset is nice and comfy, and fits snugly on my head which is rather small. But I’m most excited for the Quest 2, it’s completely portable and I’m so excited to play The Walking Dead Saints and Sinners, the tracking will make everything easier and with 360° of freedom will make it even more immersive.
