Very helpful, I've had way too many times where I got greedy and trapped myself in a weapon animation, only to get smashed or impaled. I also completely forgot about the Yokai Shift charged heavy attack!
Rocketman Luke here’s a tip for ya if the game is giving you major trouble,e the blue graves help a lot and a ninja build is op if you’re good at not getting hit
For the living walls: look around for red-sword graves. Usually one will be "was killed for his neutral behavior" with either neutral, aggressive or peaceful (?). Don't do the same color emote as guy who died.
A tip a lot of users are missing is that you can break yokai appendages (they usually glow yellow). This permanently lowers an enemies maximum ki and does a burst of ki damage on success. Kunai, some yokai skills and ranged attacks are great for this. Try shooting an Enkis horn to open a fight. 👍
A lot of us probably need tutorials on how to fucking die. Been breezing through so far and I just arrived in region 3, having played only a few hours per day. I'm glad he went over little details that can easily be missed even by experienced players.
@@torvamessorem6686 Did you have trouble with the switchglaive revenant in the second mission of the castle in the second area? I feel like he was killing me in 3 hits and I was almost 6 levels above the recommended level.
There is also hidden points on the world map that when highlighted the cursor will turn red. It gives items and history/story of that landmark. I've found usually round 4 per map.
One personal advice that has carried me through most of Nioh 1, and also currently in Nioh 2. When you manage to empty a human ki bar, don't go for the "execution", instead, use a big attack that can put them on the ground, execution on the ground, and same attack again. You gain 2 free attacks this way, I mostly use Cross sign with my dual katanas build, and human enemies are simply melting.
Should also be noted that there are many burst attacks that only the Brute burst counter is suited for. Human bosses guardian spirit attacks for example. Also in the yokai illustrations you can press R2 to change information and see enemies weaknesses and resistances.
Finally some actual tips that aren't covered by the games tutorial or really obvious :D Also: the comment section is a great source (especially for newer players)
Also, if you approach the fake walls from behind you can rip off the piece of paper to instantly kill it. Not always an option, though, but keep an eye out.
Another way to tell what type of gesture to use is look for a red text revenent grave and read the way they died. For example, if they died in a disrespectful way don't use the red gestures, instead use the blue or yellow gestures since you only get two chances to wall.
@@Ronin11111111 It gives the exact same loot as killing or appeasing it normally, thank god. The only thing that MIGHT be different is that i can't guarantee it counts for getting the Nurikabe in "visitation" in the hut, as i'm pretty sure you only get progress for that through appeasing them, ie. doing the correct gestures.
Tip: Go to Settings > Basic Game Settings > 2nd page > turn on Display for Life, Ki, Anima and Yokai Ability Cost. This is for those that like to see the numbers.
Yeah I know, I just specifically keep it off. I already have developed a good sense of how much anything costs to use and it's more of an additional visual clutter imo
@@theblackbaron4119 I prefer the numbers on because I like seeing precise values on everything, but I understand what you mean as all vital information is communicated perfectly without them. It also looks ugly as sin and out of place with the rest of the UI...
Another trick would be soul cores. Your anima is instantly restored full when you pick them up, so what I normally do is use my Yokai abilities on enemies I have yet to kill, and when I’m empty, I run back and pick up the soul core for a full anima recharge
A bit late here, but I do have information to add on to the illusory wall. You have two attempts to make the right gesture. Nearby the wall, if you see any revenants, they will most likely give you a clue to how to get past the wall. The cause of death should be along the lines of "Died due to his friendly/neutral/unfriendly behaviour". The way to figure out the nature of your emotes is just by colour. Blue is friendly, red is unfriendly.
Well this makes me feel better. I keep seeing videos with people saying not to pick the Feral Guardian, and for the life of me I haven't been able to make sense of why. Now I'm glad I just stuck with it.
There’s more to the creepy walls. There’s always a grave nearby the walls, sometimes even some dead players too. They reveal how they died. “Dead for their Friendly, Neutral, or Aggressive behavior” Other than that, the list was nice. I learned some new things. I played the first Nioh, so I already knew most of the stuff. The bit about burst counters will help me out lots! Thanks you!
One thing I’ve learned too is that if you are being attacked by an enemy combo. You can block while you are being hit in mid combo. You can’t dodge unfortunately, but if you are being hit by a combo you can block. Which saves a few HP.
@@BiGxNaStY69 if it works like nioh 1, then yes. Toughness resists flinch, so the only reason you can block after getting hit is because your toughness tanked the hit and you can act immediately.
A little pro tip for the guardian spirit Tengen Kujaku. Save your small spirit stones cause they can be used to buff you depending on which stance your in whilst using said guardian spirit. High stance- attack buff, Mid stance- Def buff, Low stance- Ki recovery speed
Not sure if this is obvious, but the Expeditions in the Torii Gate offer the full game in coop without the need for Ochoko Cup farming, with the added benefit that both party members progress simultaneously.
Something for those new to this, keep watch also for what each weapon scales with in terms of stats. The upgrade screen tells it plainly but each weapon has two tertiary states as well. And later on you can get weapons with random effects that increase scaling ir have comepletely different scaleing for stats not normally there!
And you can always reforge a weapon to be exactly what you want it to be instead of searching for a good roll on properties. Tempering is the greatest option at the blacksmith.

Miguel Oliveira feral is 100% the best one, you can counter more stuff much quicker and with some builds, you can follow up with some beefy punishes, as well as that you also get a really good dash with I frames that can be improved with the cat spirit. Feral looks the best and performs the best in my opinion, but we all have different preferences I guess.
Honestly nekomata is useless due to t fact timing s just human mistake. Also phantom s waaaay more consistent than feral's and u can counter ranged atacks. That Enki / burst counter tip for getting out of sticky situations is extremely useful, there have been many times where I got staggered and ended up taking the hit. I’m not used to those extra Yokai mechanics so I’ve never really used them much. Now I will thanks to this video!
Whenever a mob activates the grabbing animation, if you are using headphones, you will hear a "ding" as a sound cue for the enemy grab attack start. Once you start listening for it, you will never get grabbed again :)

Nice to see a tips video for Nioh that isn't made out of the same "tips" every time.. *Manage your Ki and use Ki pulse* Really?! Never thought of that!
Dude, thank you for some real tips and tricks for once to this game. Especially with the running out of stamina trick using the yokai dash, game changer during boss fights.
Bro, I had 400+ hours in nioh 1, but the extracurricular activities you suggested for the burst counter are brilliant. Just brilliant. Also, it's the 1st I've heard of block buffering. Just as Brilliant. If I wasnt subbed, I'd sub to this fucking channel so hard. This is the most useful nioh 2 video I've seen. Also was wondering what those "certain skills" things were in the skill tree. That's so dope you can imbue your weapon skills with poison, fire, ect.
Very necessary to avoid the knock back, even if you want to foolishly fight it for lesser loot. That's your choice as your own game style. But personally, I whistle at and mimic every single one, I also correctly gesture Nurikabe Walls. Mujina are my favorite little tanukis ;)
@@wizardlyTKO to avoid the knock back, sure. getting knocked back does do much and definitely doesn't change the amount of loot. FYI it's actually necessary to fight and kill some Mujina and Nurikabe for the titles, if you care about completion and the chance to get a couple more points to spend in titles
the zero ki tip is nice...there is another tip that i found very useful. there is items u find that fill ur amrita...keep those for boss fights and use them to fill ur amrita...that way you can transform twice in each boss..
About the perks you unlock in the shifting skill tree; a great advice is to put elemental damage on your attacks that can do billions of hit according you have the ki for it. I don t have the english names but it s usually L1+triangle hold. That way you can basically apply an element garantee and for free. You can pretty much give the confusion debuff to your foes in a blink. Super useful ;) (I personally like thunder a lot on these L1+triangle since the lightning debuff slows your opponent quiet a lot, super convenient!) Oh and another great one is to have lantern fruits as shortcut. You gather a shit ton of them from the sudamas, gives back a lot of anima for your OP yokai abilities. Super convenient to use VS tough bosses!
Whenever I die in Nioh 2, and I hear that lady go "heh heh heeeh heeeh" before I respawn, it sounds like she's singing to me in a very mocking way while pointing at me like Eric Cartman.
Figured these things out already, but had to leave a like for how much more informative and useful this video is for players, in comparison to other vids.
Nice video! Packed with great stuff! Burst counter is wonderful for getting out of broken guard situations. Didn't know about the yokai skill version though, great find! Couple of gameplay things, dash attacks are very useful, but you have to evade out of them to avoid the pause. And with backwards high stance evasion attack, which you dubbed back step attack (I love that, btw), if you switch stances to mid in the high stance back step attack animation, you can continue a combo with no pause. It only works with mid stance and it works with the high stamce forward or backward versions. The forward high stance evasion attacks give you more s to work with too.
Not sure if this has been said before but you can basically skip the sheathing animation for any R1+O skill (Iai, Night Rain,...) by first hold R1 with your weapons drawn, slightly tilt the left analog in the desired direction then quickly press O. If you did it correctly then your weapons would instantly be sheathed allowing you to just perform the skill.
Thank you for this video. I've been looking for guides but everything out there has been basic stuff like how to move your character and that elixirs heal you. Good stuff man.
Playing this for the first time 3 years later. I have over 100 hours in the game and just finished NG+… and there were still things I didn’t know in this video. Thank you!
For the illusionary walls. Usually there is a revenant nearby and it’ll say what it died by in the color of one of the gestures. Do not pick that gesture type but instead, try one of the other two types and you’ll never have to fight a wall.
yeah, it just wants 1 from the the color type of the gesture. Like Celestial here said, sometimes there are graves that shows that they died because of "a gesture", now you're 100% guaranteed to appease Nurikabe, since you only have 2 choices left and the Nurikabe tolerates one wrong choice. Of course there are some where there are no graves at all. lel
Hell yea. Didn't know about the cancels and the active skills. Thank you so much for that. I have been wanting a better way to escape guard breaks and was looking into it yesterday to no avail. Subbed instantly.
Also with the hidden walls, if there is a revenant nearby the Nurikabe, go hover over it and it will say “died by nurikabe used positive gesture” and then you know you have to use a red or yellow. You get two tries, meaning so long as there is a revenant nearby you’ll know which to use. Also it doesn’t matter which gesture, just anything from the right color of gestures
A small correction about the mimic chest. You are not 'forced' to fight them. If you whistle or if you trigger the chest opening they will always do a emote first for you to mimic.
Thanks for making an ACTUAL tips video. I’ve seen half a dozen of these videos and the first tip is always something obvious like “remember to dodge enemy attacks, because enemies hit hard” or “loot comes in multiple different rarities” - when will video publishers learn tips =/= basic features?
Another thing too is when you burst counter and the enemy runs out of stamina you can press triangle really quickly to final blow them in yokai form for even more damage
Switching to low stance on every ki pulse is very easy to do with some practice and saves my life all the time. It might be pretty obvious since the game has mechanics that reward you for it, but it took me awhile to realize the potential
In regards to walls, little something that some people often do, if they find one they will place their blue grave next to them, usually close enough if you check their grave the wall will growl so you can notice it, that goes for a lot of secret areas and survivable drops as well, so if you see a random blue grave in the middle of nowhere often enough it's someone else trying to push you toward a secret.
this is the best nioh 2 tips video i've found so far. there was lots of little stuff you would only notice if you pay close attention to the combat system. i didnt' like how early into the video your plug was, but other than that this was a highly enjoyable vid. thanks for making it.
The "High Backstep" attack is actually done off of the rolling dodge so you can do it in mid stance as well if you double tap dodge to step -> roll, which also gives you some follow-up attacks from it due to mid stance's higher attack combo limit. Doesn't work in low stance obv since it never forces a rolling dodge
Other tips and tricks videos : You press R1 to attack. Try to attack enemies to kill them. Your video was actually informative and well done. Even though I've already played 50+ hours in a week, most of the stuff you showed I didn't even know. Keep up the good work.
yeah I found out the guard break yokai move thing by accident when I was spamming my snake attack in order to stop a Yoki coming towards me and then actually happened it was amazing
It's called Nurikabe Wall, and you can usually find a Bloody Grave lying around near it with the death choice, in the Gestures. Like "Killed for his Neutral Behavior" So don't pick yellow.
In both Nioh 1 and 2, whenever I saw the demon walls I would just shoot them in the eyes then combo them to death while they're staggered. I didn't know emoting was even an option.
Since you took the time & effort to provide a concise (thoughtful & not greedy) guide, I want to take the same to share my educated guess. Due primarily to the content, at this time, you have certainly provided us with the BEST Nioh 2 GUIDE on RUclips. Thank you!
I'd say the best tip overall is the attack cancel tip. While players like myself have found this just by testing or randomly, im sure a lot of other players haven't, and something like this, as you said, can make or break.
Another thing to note about illusionary walls is that there will usually be a revenant grave nearby that got killed by the nurikabe wall. It will tell you which gesture got them killed giving you a 50/50 chance on the wall
I watched your video when I was just a few hours in to the game and it's very useful. I finished the game a week ago and I love it but doubt I would've gotten along this well with it without a good tips video
You can switch to your saved sets in any shrines. So, you can make a field set or a boss set. I don’t know why people are complaining that they wish they have access to a quick equipment load out when in fact you do.
About the wall you mentioned, there is always a grave outside and if you read from what he died you pick another gesture. For example if says died because hostile your gesture must be kind
awesome video! I would only add that the only useful dash attack is the spear one, as you can immediately flourish out of it, thus dealing a nice amount of damage in a safe way without spending much ki
Another tip is that bosses will drop skills for weapons not listed in their skill tree. The bosses that drop these skills all use the weapons the skill they drop goes to. Each weapon has about 2 or 3 of these hidden skills that need to be farmed off bosses and are usually some form of attack the boss is able to do.
Even though I played Nioh 1, it took me longer than I care to admit to remember the chest trick lol. One tip not mentioned, and I feel is absolutely useful is burst counter grapples. If your burst counter fully depletes your target's ki, pressing heavy after immediately triggers a yokai shift grapple for massive damage.

Omg thank you so much for showing off the custom skills. I did not see that tooltip on the bottom and was going crazy about them.
Super useful ;)
(I personally like thunder a lot on these L1+triangle since the lightning debuff slows your opponent quiet a lot, super convenient!)
Oh and another great one is to have lantern fruits as shortcut.
Omg lmao saaaaame.
Hahahahahahaha that is kinda true tho 😂😂😂
Probably the best guide ever made for nioh 2 thanks!
Thank YOU
Figured these things out already, but had to leave a like for how much more informative and useful this video is for players, in comparison to other vids.
The forward high stance evasion attacks give you more s to work with too.
the combo by switching to mid is news to me. Thank you 😊

Thanks!
Best tips video...ty
Another thing too is when you burst counter and the enemy runs out of stamina you can press triangle really quickly to final blow them in yokai form for even more damage
Excellent! I learned more than a few things. And I subscribed. Thanks.
Ty!
3 of those are pretty helpful for me. Thanks.
All of these tips were super helpful and I knew barely any of them beforehand, thanks a bunch!
Have fun!
Oh wow, actual tips instead of end game features
Thanks for these useful tips! 🤗😉
Great video man iv been playing nioh 2 for about a month and most of these tips where still helpful. Totally subbed
Great thanks!
Some of these were really useful thank you
Very helpful. Subscribed.
Great!
Switching to low stance on every ki pulse is very easy to do with some practice and saves my life all the time. It might be pretty obvious since the game has mechanics that reward you for it, but it took me awhile to realize the potential
mt biggest issue is having to hit the enemies 15 times to kill them, yet I get killed in 1 or 2 hits. The early game is so damn relentless
If you look at the gear drops, the highest number is 10-15 levels above the maps level.
Instant subscribed great vid
Thank you!
Excellent info Bro !
Game's out on PC. Sick vid.
Yo I haven't finished the video yet butt I'm subscribed now. Thanks
Appreciate that!
It's called Nurikabe Wall, and you can usually find a Bloody Grave lying around near it with the death choice, in the Gestures. Like "Killed for his Neutral Behavior" So don't pick yellow.
Nurikabe is enough, kabe already means wall.
Thank you!
This is genuinely helpful. Thanks!
I'd say the best tip overall is the attack cancel tip. While players like myself have found this just by testing or randomly, im sure a lot of other players haven't, and something like this, as you said, can make or break.
I found out about the attack cancel but by far the most useful part is the ki break cancel especially for players like me who are bad at ki managment
Another thing to note about illusionary walls is that there will usually be a revenant grave nearby that got killed by the nurikabe wall. It will tell you which gesture got them killed giving you a 50/50 chance on the wall
Excellent video as always
Ty
I really needed this. I’ve played the first nioh but the second one is just straight up kicking my ass
Great video
Dude, this is top tier stuff. Really well done 🏆
Thanks!
I watched your video when I was just a few hours in to the game and it's very useful.
I finished the game a week ago and I love it but doubt I would've gotten along this well with it without a good tips video
thanks for tips. They was helpful for me
Great!
These were really good tips. Thanks
Ty
This is actually very helpful , thannks!
Welcome!
This is a very good tutorial. Learned things that I was completely missing out.
Good tip is to get the refulgent strike skill in the shiftling tree - gives you double the Amrita per kill if you use a weapon skill
The best guide that i have see until now in the youtube nice bro keep going
Even though I played Nioh 1, it took me longer than I care to admit to remember the chest trick lol. One tip not mentioned, and I feel is absolutely useful is burst counter grapples. If your burst counter fully depletes your target's ki, pressing heavy after immediately triggers a yokai shift grapple for massive damage.
Keep up the good work with nioh content buddy
I hope nioh community become bigger and bigger
