  • If you know me and watch my channel, you know the love I have for the 5.2 liter V10 found in the audi r8 and in the Huracan. And a few weeks ago I made a video on the Huracan successor that will feature a twin turbo V8 instead of the v10 powerplant found in the current model. P.s the new R8 wont share that V8 powerplant with lambo. But we do know what it will have you see on the 12th of September of this year a article by Autocar told us what the new R8 will have instead of the amazing v10 engine.
Firstly I have to state that the life of the Audi R8 is coming to an end RIP (2007-23) according to Audi insiders the R8 will be discontinued next year and it will be replaced by successor with a different name and a different powerplant.
Now this new Audi will take the top spot in the audi line up, and Instead of replacing it with a gas car, Audi will transition to electric for its halo performance model. The company plans to stop introducing new gas models after 2025, so with a planned “mid-decade” launch for the R8 successor.
Now as it stands at the moment the e tron RS already produces more HP than the R8, the V10 engine in the R8 produces 620hp while the E tron is the most powerful production model Audi produces. Now because The R8 is much lighter and a fully fleged supercar it is faster than the Etron, but the Etron does show that Audi do know how to make a fast EV.
Now this new R8 will use one of two possible powertrains, It could either be the SSP Sport architecture that will underpin the next-gen Taycan and E-Tron GT or a new sports car platform being worked on for the electric successors to today's 718 Boxster and Cayman duo. And yes if you didn’t know the next cayman and boxer will also be electric. A moment of silence for the flat 6 in the Cayman GT4.
Now Audi have there work cut out with this new Electric supercar, because it needs to make a lot of power but more importantly it needs to be light, otherwise it wont handle as well on track, and when you have a supercar you want to be able to take it out on the track.
And here is the weird thing While the R8 prepares for an electric future, its sister model will retain a combustion engine for one more generation. Lamborghini has confirmed the Huracan successor is going to have a Twin turbo V8 engine, ill link the video here. But why are they going two different ways?
Btw if I had to choose I would choose the V8 in the lambos replacement over this. Im old school, I feel like a supercar is always better with a awesome sounding powerplant a superlightweight chasis and a engine behind your back. But that’s me. let me know how you feel about this change?

I wouldn't take an EV ever unless it was given to me free.

I have a v10 performance and there isn't anything better than hitting 8.5k revs in it and screaming down the road. My brother has a tycan turbo s and it's not the same at all

Great info. I prefer the sound of ICE vehicles like you mentioned, and wish Audi would keep the R8 going

Old tech bruh! 10-15 years from now, it will feel weird getting into an ICE vehicle. Specifically a sports car.

Cars are slowly turning into F-Zero esque high-speed rail pods.
Once high speed rail hits the mainstream and becomes widespread in states like California, much of North America will realise that cars have become pointless by comparison because now they keep getting stripped of their identity and get flanderized through each generation. On top of this, a big chunk of American taxes get thrown into road construction and maintenance. America’s current car obsession will start to wane once high speed rail goes mainstream here.
Electric cars do not solve the material dependency problem that comes with cars as a whole. Despite being initially expensive, high speed railroads became a worthy investment for the nations that put them in. And if Americans decide to depend on these railroads for the future and beyond, then billions of dollars would be saved.
