ESEE...Is this too much to ask?

- The ESEE 3 is undoubtedly one of the most versatile knives you could own. For the very first time in my history of owning them and using them and modifying them and on and on, I'm going to exercise tremendous restraint and not modify this knife. I know I will probably cave and do something very minor, but as of right now...NOTHING. My intention is to see if over the next 10 years or so if I am hopefully still around, my knife can take on the look and feel of one that has simply been used and aboused and used some more. Ever since ESEE first came on the scene and I saw the knife and sheath from the Peruvian Guide that Jeff and Mike knew who had been using one of their knives for a long time. This knife is legendary and looks like...well, actually amazing to me, but most would say it looks like crap. All in the eyes of the beholder. I want mine to look like I've actually done something with my life and knife and have it look like a proper knife that a grandfather should give to a grandson...or daughter...if she was cool and not frilly.

Glad you like that story. It came from the old RAT forum before they were ESEE and then had their own forum separate from any other forum hosts. I remember those pictures and the whole story behind it. Then when I wanted to do the video, I had to research and find the old info. And pictures.

Got a 3HM with kydex sheath on my list of must have knives.
The 3 hm has a nice thin blade and a thick handle , everything I like in a belt knife.
I also want their laserstrike ....I have a bad case of the wants. 😏 ....me wants it my precious.
I have had the HM. It is very nice. I just find myself preferring the regular version and then putting liners on it.
@knifetimestory Yeah, I could see that the choil grip is probably more comfortable.

Do you use the esee for food prep and if so are you worried about the coating on the blade?

It reminds me of the story from Tilly hats who bought back one of their hats from someone to show the durability of it. An elephant ate his trainers hat three times and each time the elephant passed it. All the trainer did was wash it off and use it again.
That is a great story. Wow. That is a tough hat. And, I guess with a thorough cleaning, would be just fine to continue wearing!!!

For your ESEE 3, it would be a piece of cake to make a liner.
Why does Esee include the small piece of paracord on the bottom of the sheath?

As far as the paracord thing goes, I guess it is just a nice gesture on their part so your knife is not naked. That little bit of Paracord could actually come in handy and the stopper thingy is also handy.

👍 Nice instructional video. No worries I promise not to think about you when in the shower. I do not like plastic sheaths, may I think about you when I put on a knife in a leather sheath. Does the knife in the leather sheath need to be an Esee, can it be a vintage Marbles?
