It's funny how a lot of guys who complain about a 5 1/2 oz knife also have a beer gut. "I'll take 15 extra pounds in my belly, but keep that extra ounce out of my pocket!". LOL

I wanted to buy a butterfly butter knife but I can’t find one online...I can’t believe nobody is making those. I don’t get out much so my knives don’t always get used for woods stuff. I use my TOPS Prather War Bowie to cut up my pizza. And I use my $270 Bark River Lil Canadian to trim my fingernails.
My edc blade is a chainsaw because you never know what will happen. Always be prepared for the worst. I swear you just have to get a good belt and you don't even feel it.
Working on a dewalt chainsaw review for release in a few weeks- should be right up your alley. However a 12 inch chainsaw is kinda toysized- so maybe you won't like it!
Thats what I thought. If I know anything about knife guys is that everyone sharpens better, likes bigger blades, and is generally better at knife bullshit than the next guy!
Advanced Knife Bro ain't that the truth. I can't tell you how many times I used my blades and karate I learned off the TV to take down members of Al quida. I also built a bungalow from a piece of straw, 2 inches of paracord from my wicked paracord bracelet, and a featherstick. I know pretty impressive, you don't need to tell me.
you're content always makes me smile - probably the dry humour .... like seeing the simple poundings etc that you hand out whilst making wry remarks all the time. keep it up :)
I carry my Esee 5 in my flight bag and camp with it. It is a beast of a knife. I was thinking about getting an Esee 3 or 4 to cut weight from my flight bag. Thanks for the review of the 3. It confirmed that I need the 4.
Some of those guys sorta have a point- but the 0350 is short and stubby for being over 5 1/2 ounces. Why not save weight when you can. Also just because a knife is heavy doesn't mean jack shit about how well it holds up to abuse.
@@AdvancedKnifeBro The 0350 holds up like a tank to all the abuse I put it through while on duty for many years. It feels great in hand and really doesn't weight much.
ESEE 3's are great. You also save money over the DPX HEST that was also made at Rowen. A bit short for a lot of tasks, but ESEE 3 is a leader in its class. Ontario RAT used to be made in Taiwan iirc, but I could be getting my history mixed up, which wouldn't surprise me.
The camerawork (and spunk) on these reviews makes them so much better than other channels'. Regarding Ontario knives, a lot of people won't buy them out of principle and here's a direct quote from a guy on Bladeforums as to why: "...RAT contracted with Ontario to make some knives. When the contract ended, RAT planned on having the knives made to higher standards by a different manufacturer [ESEE], Ontario pursued legal action to retain rights to produce the RAT line of knives and evidently "won" and continue to make RAT knives with reference to Jeff Randall." For that reason, I wouldn't buy from them.
Wasn't up with that knife drama- so thanks for filling me in. I read a little about what happened but it didn't include the legal stuff- yuck. I like esees anyway and I think they have a great warranty.
Ordered one today and it’s coming tomorrow. Can’t wait. Ordered the Esee 4 originally but am returning after zero use. Just a little to big and heavy imo for what I need it for
"They don't even care if you were the eighth owner and traded it for drugs." Voted RUclips's Best One-Liner 2018 Why am I just now finding this channel?
Ya, I like your channel. My 2 sons have Ontario RAT 3s. The are handy. I have a lot of Ontario knives. All have been good so far. No issues. My wife’s EDC blades are Swiss Army Knives. Like 5 of them. I know this as she tried to go into a federal building....
I had both a rat 3 and an esee 3 because well I hate myself and love spending money. The rat 3 I got first and it has served me well. The grind came not perfect but after I worked it on my stones it's been fine ever since. I like that the Rat 3 is slightly thicker blade stock and it came with a Mil Tech lock. I haven't had to use the warranty because I don't beat on the blade. The coating is slightly different between the two blades but really, they are pretty darn similar. I ended up giving the esee to my brother. I'd be less concerned on beating the esee up since I trust their warranty more. Really though the question comes down to, is the warranty worth the extra money?
Yeah... I've only broken my Junglas while using it. I mean what else is really a 9 inch knife good for other than chopping and spitting. I can't use it for cooking.
Nah, it was in perfect shape. I've already had it on a fee outings. Great midsize blade for sure. Surprisingly nimble too. The 4hm/3hm is of interest just because the 6hm is such a win.
I own both the Esee 3 and the RAT-3. The Esee's handle is just a bit longer. I bought the RAT at first because I thought they were the same and it was less money. After I learned the Esee was a bit longer I ordered it and couldn't be happier.
You should post links to your social media accounts in the description of your videos. I have been binge watching your videos. They are under rated. Good job bro!
I see I'm a bit late on this one...How would you compare this vs Spyderco Street Beat? The black handled Spyderco, no the $9 tragillion made in Japan one.
I have the izula 3 no essee logo on blade rounded butt. Spent extra for after market mjcarta scales. Better than stock scales on esse 3. Great blade anti rust coating. Great edc
Sweet little Esee. My dilemma is finding a good full tang knife that falls in between whichever 3 to 4 inch (blade) folding knife I have at the time and my Hatchet. I'm one of those wierdos that prefers a hatchet over a giant bowie when processing wood.
How do you feel about the Ka-Bar non traditional offerings? The Becker line is kinda Ontario/ESEE competition, and the Jarosz line is nice too. If you can review the Kabar Turok, please do!
I like my ESEE 3 & 4 I use them for camping and I don’t baton with my knives. I use my ESEE Gibson axe for all my batoning stuff and cutting. Yes I have nothing better to do but watch RUclips 😊

Great video. I love the ESEE 3. I'm not one of those people who think that ESEE knives are the best bushcraft knives out there, or even one of those people who think they're especially good knives for Bushcraft, but nor do I think it's bad for it, either. There are so many knives that will perform better, but the reason I love it so much is because of the design. If you want a knife exclusively for Bushcraft then you can do a lot better, but for camping and hiking and as a hard-use EDC for work, then I think it's fantastic. I think the design is very versatile. The blade thickness is perfect for a flat-ground blade of 1095. It's tough enough to do emergency survival tasks like batonning but it's thin enough to be useful for utility, camping, and Bushcraft tasks. It's not that great at carving, but it does the job. It's not the best for feathersticks, but it'll do it easily. It really is just a good jack-of-all-trades. My favourite thing about it is just how reliable it is. I've never had a problem with it. You can feel save when you have one on you in the woods.
I have both the rat3 and the esee3..The rat one is a great folder..However there is no comparison between the rat3 and esee3. The esee has a slightly thicker blade. The esee also has a longer grip. It’s more expensive but is really a much nicer knife. The micarta scales are much nicer on the esee as well.(In response to the question “if anyone else has a rat3 vs esee3 leave a comment”
Advanced Knife Bro Interesting, about the same but the money is not the same! xD. A 7cr17mov is not a very hard steel, it would not be a problem to sharp the cima 1 at the begining. Regards!.
The Cimas edge does not match my sharpmaker well. I have sharpened a few esees and it's always easy. I have had problems with Chinese Cr steels and ease of sharpening over the years. For whatever reason the easiest Chinese knives to sharpen have always been Ganzos. Their 440c is so easy.
Esee seems like an alpha-tactical/military oriented knife brand for five finger death punch listeners. What fixed knife outdoor brands would you recommend for a humble and gentle homesteading/bushcrafting guy
I don’t think Esee as tactical military. I think they make pretty good fixed blades for the money. They have a killer warranty. If you’re looking for cheaper... isn’t the cold steel SRK a decent value in one of their lower end steels? Condor also has stuff like the Bushlore, that ain’t overkill.
I said tallnesses because I was going to provide more measurements- however I didn't have the time or thought anyone really cared- so I just left the word in.
I have both RAT3 and ESEE 3 and I have been using them for three years in a daily basis. Cutting edge length is the same. The ESEE 3 has a longer handle, holds much better in the hand. I have medium to large hands, and the RAT3 is a little too short. Not dramatic but still, too short. The RAT3 has a thicker blade and comes with the BLADE TECH TEK-LOK clip out of the box and is cheaper. Steal is the same. Blade paint is smoother with the RAT3 and more textured with the ESEE. Handle and overall finition is better with ESEE but RAT3 is very acceptable, nothing to blame. So conclusion, the RAT3 is better solution for small hand people with lower budget. Medium or large hands should go for the ESEE 3 at a higher cost, unfortunately.
Replace the short micarta handles with extended G10 ones. I did. Makes my ESEE-3 so much more useful and comfortable. Absolutely worth the upgrade. Also, see that silver coating around the ESEE logo? Yeah, that's not a coating. They literally gouge out the black protective coating on the blade to put their logo on the knife. All the silver bits are just the bare metal underneath. That's why my last three ESEE knives all have the tan coating with black logos on them. Those are not gouged out of the finish. You make great knives, then ensure they'll rust completely around your big, obnoxious logo. Brilliant. This is one reason why I prefer the Ontario RAT-7 over it's twin, my ESEE-6. Ontario gives a lighter coating but it barely features any lettering cut out of the protective finish. Got an aftermarket kydex sheath for it. Crappy sheath issue fixed.
You review like a man in desperate need of coffee 😂 Nice review but I decided that the Essee 4 was as small as I wanted to go in a fixed blade. I have the Essee 6 and the RAT7 and I believe the RAT is just as well made from US 1095 with the same or similar heat treat and edge retention and was considerably cheaper. As you point out, the sheath is no where near as nice but the blade is excellent. My edc pocket knife is a RAT Model 1 folder and I use it hard but have no issues with it. I have an Essee 6HM but prefer my regular 6 for exactly the reasons you state and I find the grip twists more under hard use. The Junglas 1 is a beast and whilst not used often is a great knife.
I sometimes carry a real knife, sometimes a folder. That's just when I'm wearing older jeans that have shrunk, or something like that, or when I don't think I really need anything at all. But when I do carry a straight knife, it's a durable custom one you can beat up and abuse without damage, not a basic one. Not that a basic fixed blade is bad, if you need a fixed blade.
Honestly I liked the last two comparison knives the Condor and the other one what was it though a kitchen knife? . I don't think I like the coated blades is the issue there to rough to much friction or I just don't like the look honestly. I'm a sucker for a shiny polished blade even if my enemy's might see the glint before I strike lol {joke . Another good vid .
That was the Vangedal Rover. One of my favorite fixed blades... sharpens so easily.. slicy... comfortable handle, nice sheath, and only $40. I did a review on it... one of the few on RUclips.
Apart from the beer and bicycle light vids, I find your vids informative and funny. Have picked up 2 lights and 1 knife so far because of your vids. Looks like I may be making another purchase today. Thanks. P.d. do you think the sheath would be compatible with a tek-lock belt clip?
Advanced Knife Bro thank you for the quick reply. Do you have Amazon links like some other reviewers do so you can get some kind of kick back for purchases generated through your channel?
Usually below the video, if you can buy it on Amazon you can purchase stuff through it. Not all videos have it- but quite a few do. I generally don't harp on buying stuff in the reviews, and leave it up to the viewer to decide. If you buy anything through them- a big thanks!
By the way I just tested it with a tech clip on the back of one of my chinese fixed blades. I don't use tek-locks much, so don't know if there's another variety than the ones that come on all of those.
Advanced Knife Bro i only have 2 locks. One came with an ild Camilus Cuda CQD i have for a long time. I've been able to move that lock to other sheaths with good results. Thank you for the extra info.
I have had both the RAT 7 and the ESEE 6. I gave the RAT to my nephew. The handle is not as comfortable, the scales are not as well aligned, the coating is not as durable, and the sheath is pretty worthless. If you are going to switch out the scales and make your own sheath anyway, it might be the better deal, but I found the ESEE the superior choice.
You should made a video on how to open beer bottles with knives that are not designed to open bottles. Anything from gripping the neck and leveraging the blade off your hand to straight up smashing the bottle to "open" it. and then end it with a "or buy a fucking bottle opener" for all the people that make fun of those of us who carry a bottle opener on our keychains (because we're frat boys and the greatest four years of our life already passed in high school).
@@AdvancedKnifeBro i have the exact same pommel but I don't have a nylon sheath for it, just the molded plastic one, I have seen other ones with acctually pointed glass breakers instead of just the sharp corner

Lol, just stumbled on this channel. Love it. Still laughing. So yeah, a quick internet search will reveal why ESEE and Ontario are no longer affiliated. To that end, you’ll also discover the corporate douchebaggery employed by Ontario that caused the split. Personally, after reading the details of how Ontario shit on Jeff Randall and co. I’ll never own one of their knives. Except...I already do. Fuck. Anyways dear readers, buy an ESEE, you won’t regret it.
That was perfect how the 3 didn’t stick in stump at end,,,because of the, don’t really care attitude,of ch not cause it’s a crappy knife. I bought my 1st fixed blade 6 yrs bk and yep,it was the ESSE6. Knew after day 1,same day arrival, took her in woods I’d never need to buy another fixed blade, never. Now I own over 30 and 80% are custom made and 90% all have custom sheaths. My other factory bought knives are ESSE. 6,4,Junglas,Escabar(colab with bk),rat2 folder is under the family, they all work great in field and are no doubt the beaters. Much more ESSE to come.

Condor also has stuff like the Bushlore, that ain’t overkill.
man we listen to blue grass mostly....want a killer channel on Spotify? "Pickin on the 90s" is awesome!
Tallnesses? Shouldn't it be tallnessi or however you spell it?
I said tallnesses because I was going to provide more measurements- however I didn't have the time or thought anyone really cared- so I just left the word in.
Esee, esee and esee, u should try one of Ka bar knives, maybe Becker...
I will one day.
Advanced Knife Bro So I will wait.
Well done troller bro really like this one made in USA
Thanks foe the detailed comparison. Sounds like the Esee is a better fit for me. One of these days I'd like an esee without a coating.
Im not advanced fixed blade bro but that handle looks choice. But needs to be a tad bigger
True all of dats.
You had me at the word Esee and I clicked on the video.
Looking for it now. Wow man your channel goes way way back i gotta Catch up. Never realized the work you've put in on youtube its awesome.
Where are you on Facebook?
I don't post much on there, and it doesn't involve my channel- it ain't worth anyones time.
Apart from the beer and bicycle light vids, I find your vids informative and funny. Have picked up 2 lights and 1 knife so far because of your vids. Looks like I may be making another purchase today. Thanks. P.d. do you think the sheath would be compatible with a tek-lock belt clip?
It is... using 2 screws only.
Another good one AKB - Keep um cummmin!!! More beer reviews too. Cheers
Regular Esee 6 is worth it if you get it. Great video.
Good review 👍🏻 realy goog quality of video👌🏻
I have had both the RAT 7 and the ESEE 6. I gave the RAT to my nephew. The handle is not as comfortable, the scales are not as well aligned, the coating is not as durable, and the sheath is pretty worthless. If you are going to switch out the scales and make your own sheath anyway, it might be the better deal, but I found the ESEE the superior choice.
I would love to trade you a benchmade flfolder for this when u get tired of it!
Maybe! I might want to hold onto this one though.
I like your attitude. Reminds me of me.
It's got those Spyderco Air-go-nomics.
Air-go it is comfortable as shit.
Super knife and video too .
Love everything except the handle. Too short
I use mine in the kitchen, it's the only "real" kitchen knife I have, does it all
Very good review
the evan breen of knife reviewers
Jackson Smith I would say Neil Breen
huh
Advanced Knife Bro look up Neil Breen he is one badass director, stunt man, actor, well over all badass lol
Former Real Estate Agent. Nice.
Just subscribed to the channel.
What is the difference between the MIL varieties and the stsndard ESEE 3?
Pretty sure it’s just the glass breaker on the back and probably the sheath.
@@AdvancedKnifeBro i have the exact same pommel but I don't have a nylon sheath for it, just the molded plastic one, I have seen other ones with acctually pointed glass breakers instead of just the sharp corner
Esee’s are cool.
Love the swarmy, snarkiness. You would make a decent politician. Heck, I'd vote for ya.
Here are a couple campaign slogans I came up with... #gosnarky #goswarmy #yeah
Just in case you were wondering my edc...branch shears.
Ever ready for the zombie apocalypse.
#yeeeehaaa
Branch shears are an excellent EDC!
When in doubt, I always take whatever blade size I think I need and times it by two. Jokes on you suckas, I'm always prepared.
what happens when you think you need a sword?
I prefer ESEE-4
6:44 😂😂 man your comments are gold
Lol, just stumbled on this channel. Love it. Still laughing.
So yeah, a quick internet search will reveal why ESEE and Ontario are no longer affiliated. To that end, you’ll also discover the corporate douchebaggery employed by Ontario that caused the split. Personally, after reading the details of how Ontario shit on Jeff Randall and co. I’ll never own one of their knives. Except...I already do. Fuck. Anyways dear readers, buy an ESEE, you won’t regret it.
Have you consideres the esee 4hm?
