    The Coonan has way more horsepower than any 357 revolvers mostly because of the cylinder gap. The increase in velocity is also impressive.

    • @doughesson
      @doughesson 5 лет назад +9

      My Henry Big Boy ups the .38Special/.357 Magnum power & speed due to the longer barrel allowing for more complete powder burn & no barrel/cylinder gap.

      Thats only one load, there are lots of loads known to gain more than 500fps in a 357 carbine.

    • @MinuteBracelet
      @MinuteBracelet 5 лет назад +9

      With a proper cylinder gap the loss of fps should be minimal.

    • @corvairkid17
      @corvairkid17 5 лет назад +5

      MinuteBracelet finally chronographed mine the other day. 6" coonan. On lightweight projectiles; like 110 and 125g, there's a big jump over advertised velocity. 158grainers always run about 100fps less than advertised regardless of brand. Hope this helps.

    Many, many years ago when those big C-band satellite dishes were popular, every Thursday night I watched a show called "The Shootin Show" with Johnny Rowland. I remember him doing a test of the Coonan 357. I went to a gun show after gun show trying to find one but never was able to locate one. He also did a test of the Grendel P30. 22 mag with 30 rd clips. I found one at a gun show and bought it with 3 clips. I'd say that was early to mid 90's, maybe? Anyway, I still have it. That is one gun I'll never willingly turn loose of.
    Johnny also played several videos of you way back then shooting that revolver. That's how long I've known you. I really miss that show. I had every show on VHS.
    There was some guy from perhaps West Point Johnny played videos of. He talked about the history of firearms and cannons use in wartime.
    Seeing you here on RUclips, Mr. Miculec, really brings back some great memories.

    I've always felt a need for a Coonan .357, as it would be a pleasure to shoot this cartridge in various platforms, although these autos aren't readily available in my local market area. Seems to me the .357 magnum in Desert Eagle is more obtainable, but it is so heavy. Thanks for the short history of this caliber's origins. I guess I am not too old to learn afterall.

      The gun is a bit heavier than a standard 1911 45acp, but that, along with some of the kinetic force geting dispersed by the springs instead of going directly to your wrists like in a revolver, helps handling the .357 a lot more easier. It's a really good gun.
      I'm glad I finally saw a pro firing it this fast, tho. That was indeed impressive 👍

    I was unaware that anybody other than Sig or Glock made a semi auto 357, and this one shoots full rimmed cartridges? That's terrific for the average shooter. Thank you, great video!!!

    WOW! Watched Hickok45 yesterday shooting the same pistol. Glad to see Jerry’s take on the same pistol. Very interesting and informative perspectives. Both shot 158 gr.
    If you can find this pistol it’s gonna be expensive. MSP starts $1500-1600 and goes up.

    Awesome content! Love my Taurus Tracker in .357 I've even dropped a couple white tail with it.. I carry 10mm autos for self defense but always wanted to find a .357 autoloader to carry. Ive even been told that there is no such thing as a .357 auto by gun shops.. I knew that was BS.. Thank you for this review!

    S&W all the way since the mid 1990's. Just won a Ruger SR 1911 April 7th and sold it so I can get the wife the 357 she wants. However forgive us for taking advantage of the situation and going for the American made Henry Big Boy Brass Carbine 16.5 barrel 357 magnum. A great compliment to the S&W 357/38 Special she loves. We really enjoy watching your videos Jerry! Keep em coming! Thank You!

    My brother collects these specialty guns,he has the coonan 357,then he has a 44 automag, and several of the old AMT auto mags recently he is obsessed with these magnum research BFR revolvers,after I bought 2 of them one in 4570 the other 450 marlin,and immediately sold both to him,I'm more traditional, I like my S&W 29 classic ruger security 6 and all the ruger Blackhawk models,

    That Coonan SS looks real nice. No hiccups straight out of the box.
