    Most such accidents result in the bumper's tab (i.e., where the screw is supposed to hold onto) being broken, thus making such re-connections temporary, at best: one good bump, and it's back to the garage (yours or a mechanic's). And, many cars have multiple screws (some are plastic) and tabs that are out of reach of most DIY'ers. More often than not, a new hole has to be drilled in a nearby place, and you may even have to go through the bumper to do it, as I had to do with one car, using a screw-on rivet (hardly anyone notices it, because the smooth, flat, head looks as if it's part of the original car design, but, it won't pass muster, close-up). In another car, I used airplane lacing cord (a very strong, flat, thin, waxy, cord) to hold the back of the bumper to the car body, completely out-of-sight; three years later and it's still holding (n.b., I had to use a jack to lift the car up enough for me to work, comfortably, from underneath, and, yes, I used jack stands to ensure my safety!).

    I have tried this and lasted a few weeks so not really a proper repair. A fudge job is the title you want to use!

    • @THEDIYMIKE
      @THEDIYMIKE  4 года назад

      Yeah, I did state in the video that it would most likely have to be done multiple times. It's a good repair for a trade in to squeak by. The alternative is an expensive proper repair.

    • @THEDIYMIKE
      @THEDIYMIKE  4 года назад +1

      It may or may not be. I'm not familiar with that model specifically. However, the majority of bumpers are assembled in a similar fashion. It is possible that it could work but I cannot guarantee it to be the same. I hope this helps.

    How would you go about fixing a broken bumper retainer?

    • @THEDIYMIKE
      @THEDIYMIKE  4 года назад

      Most likely you would have to remove the entire bumper to replace the retainer. That can be a great deal more in depth depending on your model.

    What a bloody "Mickey Mouse" way of supposedly fixing a mere broken bracket on this bumper!! Sure it has worked but for how long??? That was just a sheer waste of time & effort & a job like this it'll be damn interesting to see exactly how long this fancy repair will last!! (yeah right) It should have been fixed properly in the very first instance & for the longer term & not just a temporary fix as in this video duly portrays!! Further a job of this nature does not require either expensive specialist tools or even a lot of head knowledge but more importantly it does require some bloody common sense which is a due facet not all of us have access to these days!! I'm actually a certified computer tech (so how boring is that??) & I simply learnt how to fix these sorts of plastic vehicle repairs merely by watching "RUclips DIY" videos as I refused to pay the rip-off prices that the motor vehicle service industry charges for these simple repair jobs!! People would be better off spending time watching & learning "DIY RUclips Videos" instead of the 99.95% crap that they prefer to view on the TV!! Want to save money on vehicle repairs?? Easy, stay as far away from vehicle workshops as you possibly can & do it yourself. Some of it you can't & will never be able to do but a hell of a lot of it you can indeed so get in & fix it yourself!!
