Good video! I was gonna comment on the lighting, but I took a look at your new videos and you've improved on the production value by a LOT... Keep up the great work!
Great job Kyle...I'm surely becoming of your fans ... Love and best wishes 🤗 from India
Kyle you showed a lists of specs early in the video of Wifi 5 vs 6. I have been after making sure that 160Mhz is listed also in the spec on the bandwidth, but not all companies do a good job listing it on datasheets or webpages or user manuals. Does this unit have that? Or also you would say any Wifi 6 router has this for sure in all cases?
Love this review thank you
I went from the standard xfinity box to this today, and only am using 1 satellite because our home is small but we get wifi down on the street now!!
great vid, really appreciated it
will the EZ mesh work on my apple time capsule router?
Wow great video!
in your opinion what is the beat wifi and modem products to get, specifically for entertainment systems like consols cpu and tvs ive had nighthawk stuff for years but its always a pain and awfully terrible when it comes to support and fixes
How does this compare to the orbi
Hello
I want to get better WiFi via the nighthawk mest for my Xbox will this be a good option or do you recommend something else?
My router is on the 1st Floor and My Xbox is on the 2nd Floor and the wifi is just bad with high Ping and that.
I have the nighthawk mesh 6 system with 2 satellites. Actually I have two. One at my home and one at girlfriends house. Both serve the primary function of connecting to wifi IP cameras. They work fine for a few days then suddenly it's like everything loses connection. One day it is one or two cameras not connected to the satellites. The next day the mesh is not connected to the wireless modem. I've read something about changing settings to static instead of dynamic addresses. So far I can't figure out which or what to do. I'm on wireless internet with cricket/AT&T and set up a MIMO antenna to improve my internet signal to the modem. Any help would be great. I'm tired and frustrated.
These look really cool! But, I hate using an app to setup routers. Do they have a good web page that you can use to set them up? It just seems smarter and easier to do all the setup work from a browser instead of your phone.
Would this replace my old net gear nighthawk?
So this boosts up the wifi around my house for an example I have my Xbox S in my garage and my router is in my living room ? So I can get a better internet connection from my living room to my garage
Yes. These are basically repeaters on steroids. You will get one main router unit and then hubs to place around your home. You could place one hub right next to your Xbox and hardwire it directly into the router with an Ethernet cable
Can we hard wire router and the satellite together ? so all three points in the home are wired together for better performance? like google wifi
Yes! Out of the box you can only wire one to the router, but if you buy a network switch (mine cost $20 CAD) you can wire them up easily.
So how do you still like it? I picked up this system a week ago, for a very similar 3 floor house set up. I have all the satellites hardwired. When it runs, the speeds are rock solid and my dead spots disappear. But I have issues with devices dropping. It was quite bad before I set up the wired backhaul. But even with the satellites hardwired, things are not as stable as I would like.
have you upgraded your firmware? I've had zero issues with mine
Any update on this?
Hi Kyle, Thanks for this video it is helpful. Older reviews have highlighted a problem where devices, like phones, do switch the closest Nighthawk piece when moving a person moves around a space resulting in the user getting too low of speeds until they reset the device connect and their new location in the home. Do you know if the more recent firmware updates have solved this problem? Thanks again.
Haven't had any issues with this myself

After calling netgar for 3 hours.. they will tell you .. that if you are going to use the system with a wifi backhaul .. you will only get around 60-180mb max. Period there is no other way around.
Now if you take your time to run the cables .. you will get 400-500 around the house with no problems .. even with the old ax1800 you will get the same speeds almost. The main difference is that the x3600 will handle multiple streams better thn the 1800x . Also .. after 1 year… you won’t get any support / they won’t replace the hardware. When I called them .. they wanted to blame my modem at the beginning.. but the modem is from netgear as well.. after running multiples test / speed test..
Nighthawk wifi 6 (199.99) vs. orbi whole home (429.99) why such a difference in price? Is it really that much better? Thanks
I know it has 4 ethernet ports and farther range per device, but I dont think it justifies the price
I’m using same system on my 1 gig fiber connection , never gotten more then 170mbps download on satellite wifi router , main router gave around 700-800mbps but satellite sucks , even after placing at different spots
I have all my satellites wired now, it does make quite a difference
Does this have to connect to a modem? My internet comes right into my personal router at my house. Could I just replace my router with this mesh router and put satellites around the house?
Not sure, I know with mine I would need to buy a media converter for it to work, so my router is just set to bridge mode
Yes. The router has 2 Ethernet ports one is to connect to your router and the other is to be hardwired to any device. You can go to Costco they have a deal right now where you can get the router and 2 satellites for 200.
Love to see these hard wired to the "main" unit. I'm most concerned about hand-off reliability for novice friends households and peak performance is low priority. Stability and low buggy-ness are paramount! No support calls!
The main unit has a WAN port (input) and one LAN port (output) and each satelite has a single LAN port. Having the option of hard wiring is great for future proofing, if you need to you can run a long ethernet cable to hard wire one of the satelites to give you full speed signal a long distance away. But you'd need a basic switch to give you more ports if you wished both to be hard wired.
Was just about to buy this system to replace an aged 802.11n Apple AirPort setup (three units, all connected via ethernet via a giant roaming network) and didn't like the fact each satelite unit only has a single Ethernet port, however that's better than a TP-Link option I looked at which had two ports per unit but can only be configured via an app, no HTTP web setup at all, which doesn't allow use in the future if the app doesn't work in the long term. However I ended up NOT buying this system because as far as I can tell it does not allow basic MAC address timed limits, eg configure so one device does not get internet access between 10pm and 7am - easy to do on the ancient Apple units and impossible here, I believe. Very hard to find a good modern option which doesn't have some basic features missing.
Follow up - I actually did buy this system. Realised the Mac filtering wasn’t the end of the world. However after a week, I returned it. There were some noticeable bugs I found easily not fixed since the last firmware back in August. However the biggest deal breaker was I could not handoff playback between HomePod and iPhone, and could not AirPlay! It completely blocks the protocols used by Apple devices for airplay and handoff etc. Useless for us, never seen another router with this issues. Followed forum posts and settings, tried a bunch of older firmware versions, nope, no dice. Returned.
I am in your boat… I have 2 airport extremes and it’s starting to drop and not hold signal on my arlo camera. It was so easy… and so good, wish they still made routers
@@paulbonaventura4969
Mine works great…..
Also, you can attach your apple airport to do backups
If I already have a good router will the router that comes with the set act as a 3rd satellite? Thx
Yes but you need to connect that router to the mesh via lan
@@H3erobrineNotch I see. Thanks man
@@reddysoft I might want to just double check if what I said is true, b.c I know some mesh companies disable the feature you're talking about
Most users say speeds drop when moving around as it wont switch to a new node. Resetting (power off on) device or system seems to solve it. Is that solved in FW now?
Ps
Wired backhaul = makes "wireless" mesh idea moot :-) especially if it cant track movement of nodes
Mine switches without any issues, and I’ve been using it for over a year. Can you tell me how using a wired backhaul makes wireless mesh less effective?
anyone having issues connecting to call of duty servers using this with a hotspot?
How many satellites could be connected ?
I believe up to 5
I’m a little confused, can I get internet to the router by connecting it to my router at home? Then place the satellites around the house?
Yes, that's the idea - although you may be able to replace your router with this one, depending on the features you require, as the main unit IS a router too. If you need something specific in your current router, eg VOIP, more ports etc - you can probably just turn off the Wi-Fi in your current router and use the Wi-Fi from this router, a bit more to setup that way though, eg bridge mode and so on.
This all depends on what internet service provider. I cant buy this and expect the internet to be great if I have a shit provider.
Always future proof your purchases not budget proof it!
This is the worst piece of tech I have ever used. Everything was glitchy and broke constantly
It's trash, do not buy. I had to return 2, after the 2nd time I didn't buy it again. The firmware updates will brick the whole system or at minimum one of the nodes. Customer support will tell you to return it. It's unfixable
Dude. That intro is thumbs down
thanks, I'll let the 2020 version of myself know
I just bought it. It's a piece of shit. Slow, unreliable.
