Jerry’s singing is absolutely overlooked but just as instrumental if not more so than Daron with Serj. On the self titled album Jerry started to take the lead vocals more. And had been going back and forth with William
Agree 100% to me Jerry's harmony with Layne is one of the keys to Alice in chains greatness. Daron just adds a little bit of chaos to mix up the flow of the songs.
Holy Mountains is another absolute banger. It really showcases Serj and his insane vocal ability. Super underrated song if you ask me. Would love to see you guys react to that song!
Their last two albums were musically astounding. Mix of odd time signatures (this song goes in between 5/4, 6/8, and 4/4), amazing lyricism, and overall brilliant song structure. John's drumming too, damn. I'm a drummer personally, and this album was very influential to learning how to play faster whilst not sacrificing endurance.
Metal fans and any subgenres (Heavy Metal, Hard Rock ...), pop, R&B... EVERYBODY LOVES System of a Down. Serj, Daron and co bring in their acid lyrics world wounds, political conflicts, all washed down by powerful riffs, unique and rhythmic beats in a particular way, in addition to powerful vocals by Serj and Daron. SOAD is a legendary band! Five EXTRAORDINARY albums! Next reaction: "Forest", track from Toxicity.
I find it interesting that the 2 finalists are both vocalists that have a strong back up vocalist that harmonizes with them in almost every song. A nod should be given to Daron and Jerry for their contributions.
System of a down Saturdays system of a down Saturdays system of a down saturdays guys make it happen please! Tool is my favorite band i clicked on it so fast every time you guys dropped a reaction system has a huge discography also
I loved this reaction, if you want to see another side of serj there’s this song named “Gate 21” it has 2 versions, a rock one and a live one, the live one is a show of serj’s range and piano ability, maybe you guys could enjoy it!
This is one of my favorite songs by SOAD, man. Totally agree with the statement that these are Serj's best vocals. He fucking kills it in this song. Kind of an out of left field request, but do y'all think you could do I Come in Peace by Buckethead? I was always aware of Buckethead and was a fan, but I only recently started diving through his entire discography and that song stands out as my clear favorite so far, higher even than Jordan or Soothsayer which is just insane to me haha. Anyway, awesome reaction y'all. I look forward to seeing you discover more new artists!
System followed the lead of AIC with the way they harmonize. Jerry Cantrell is criminally underrated as a vocalist. With how silky smooth his voice is. If you really listen though totally different bands they have somewhat of the same dynamic. Layne/William with Jerry and Serj with Daron. William DuVall is a damn good vocalist. Even if not Layne he stepped into a huge hole and has filled it admirably
Loving you guys reacting to one of my favorite bands. Saw them live in 2006 after Mesmerize came out. I would love to see you react to Old School Hollywood. That one is honestly one of their weirder ones lol
You guys should watch the live video of this. It will totally blow your minds. Both Serj's and Daron's vocal harmonization is one of a kind in metal bands.
THANK YOU. It's like no one remembers this song exists and you can't find the video for it anywhere either! I was starting to think I was losing my mind or had imagined the entire song and video lmao.
When the competition was first announced, I guessed it would end up Serj vs Maynard. But Alice In Chains has such an intensely personal connection for those who love them, myself included, I totally get it.
Yes what an awesome band love me some soad here's some songs you should check out from them! SUGGESTIONS ADD (AMERICAN DREAM DENIAL) SUITE PEE JET PILOT MR. JACK INNERVISION MIND THERE ARE SOME MORE BUT THOSE ARE JUST TO NAME A FEW!
One of my favorite SOAD stories is how they covered Black Sabbath. They were opening for Sabbath, when they were like "hey can you cover Snowblind?" and SOAD was like "yeah but you're doing it with us" So the entire band got up and did Snowblind together with them and had their official approval for a cover. In fact, you should react to it...
This is going to be so hard to pick. Both have had so much influence on my life. This is a great SOAD song. Can't wait to see what song you guys pick for AIC tonight. 🤘❤
I really wanted to hit the like for you two and this channel, but remembered that the like is for the vote! So: 👍 This is my like for you two!!! I'll vote later!
Hi Hollywood and Smokey been a minute since I watched y'all and of course my son says hi lol but this song is one of my favorites from System of a Down
BTW, AIC most def did not invent the grunge genre. That honor would have to go to Neil Young("Like A Hurricane", "Cinnamon Girl", "Hey Hey My My") As far as who was the first to spur it's resurgence in the 90's, I can't say with too much certainty but I've heard it might have been Mother Love Bone, Tad or perhaps Green River.
Serj Tankian is an amazing singer! System of a down is an amazing band! It's good to see they are still making good music. Hopefully they keep making music for many more years to come. 🤯😁
btw my vote goes to Serj in contest, cause he is a complete artist, he did an amazing work with SOAD, as a solist, at painting and at writing poetry...in other words, the "entire work that this artist has put together" as Smokey said at the end of this video.
@ Hollywood_6ix . So cool ya wearing a slipknot t-shirt when reacting to SOAD . I seen Slipknot and System on the same day , one straight after the other in Adelaide , Australia at the Big Day Out . ( Don't remember the year for obvious reasons ) But do remember finishing the night listening to the Chemical Brothers in the boiler room . What a day to remember .
Serge really makes a flow out of the verse, like most nu-metal vocalists. only such a flow has one little secret - it does not exist without music and repeats the rhythm or drums or riff
I'm kind of surprised Chris Cornell hasn't made it to the finals. I do like Serj and Layne pretty damn well too though. While speaking of Serj and Chris, they were good friends, and as a tribute Serj did a live song with the surviving members of Audioslave after Chris passed; the song Like a Stone is a great showcase of Serj's singing chops and the tribute truly brings a tear to my eye. It's a great performance. I think you guys would really appreciate it as well. ruclips.net/video/azCTi5lsVOI/видео.html
There is a documentary about grunge and it's seriously amazing! I only seen the 3 segments so far, but in the beginning they didn't really care for their music being called grunge bc that's what the people started calling it. I don't think they wanted to be grouped in to any genre, but they were... But yeah the whole thing is so interesting bc there is like 2 bands (people) who first started that grunge type of sound... I think both the guys deny that they started it, but it's pretty evident that they did...
Imagine,... 4 am. Walking home down dark road by the river. Just want to get home. Remember this song and scream the whole thing at the unseen moon. It was like taking an energy booster or something. Finally get home, 5 am. Too wired up to sleep now. Stay up jammin on guitar. Answer knock on door. Accept ticket from Po Po for being too noisy too early. Go back in and debate killing self. Go up to bed and sleep til midnight. Wake up dead and realize your whole life was a dream and you've been the imagination of self the whole time
System of a down was the band that got me into rock and I regretted it because no other artists albums had as Many bangers jn I set list like SOAD. IMO
Both are two of my favorite singer along with Maynard from Tool.. We lost Layne too early, listen to nutshell mtv unplugged, Lane literally does some heroin, walks on stage and sings like a Angel
Hey guys! You probably don't get this so much, but you should definitely react do HELMET. It's an alternative metal band from the 90s that sometimes get overlooked, but they rock HARD!! 'Unsung' is probably their most famous song (it was in GTA SA radio as well). 'Milquetoast', 'Wilma's Rainbow' and 'Role Model' are also great songs! Peace
So there is only three bands where I like an entire discography. And since I was 16 system has been atop that list. But hey. Pantera Red Hot Chili Peppers and system baby🤟🤟🤟
I have a Question,.. a really good 1. Do you think love is the only thing that matters after we die? Do you think haters will be made to pay for their hate and all that results from that hate? Do you think the carrots will be ready for harvest day this year? I hope so cos, this is necessary
Serj and Layne are both fn stellar ! But I got my preference and its Layne . But It wouldnt break my balls if either guy won . I love both styles and both harmonies they bring with their back up singers in Daron and Cantrell .
I will say, if you want more Serj after this, check out some of his solo stuff. I'll also add in 'We Are One' if you want weird Serj, plus Buckethead on guitar. And of course, more SOAD is always welcome anytime.
I think i got their first album from randomly picking off one of those mail in Columbia House or BMG fliers. 10 CD's for a penny, then just never respond to the required buying after that.. haha
Serj is amazing, and he has a secret weapon: Daron. Similarly, Layne Staley is also amazing and Jerry Cantrell's harmonization is often overlooked.
Jerry’s singing is absolutely overlooked but just as instrumental if not more so than Daron with Serj. On the self titled album Jerry started to take the lead vocals more. And had been going back and forth with William
Cigaro being a prime example
One of the best comments ... not to mention Daron killer riffing ...
Agree 100% to me Jerry's harmony with Layne is one of the keys to Alice in chains greatness. Daron just adds a little bit of chaos to mix up the flow of the songs.
And the two of them have a mutual secret weapon: John😂
They way he switches from singing to screaming in "Streamline" gives me chills
If Serj wins can we have Holy Mountains to celebrate the win 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
It was voted as Serj's best vocal performance in Revolver magazine last week.
Everbody should like your comment !!!
They really need to do Holy mountains !!!
100%
You got it
@@Hollywood6IX Yeeeeeeeah
Even more appropriate now that The Armenian Genocide was officially recognized by the USA.
This song had a lot of Daron in it too so ur also hearing his voice as well. Holy mountains shows serjs voice much better
Very much agree.
Yes agree! darons vocals are many times overlooked.
Yeeeeeees Holy mountains !!!!!
Holy Mountains is another absolute banger. It really showcases Serj and his insane vocal ability. Super underrated song if you ask me. Would love to see you guys react to that song!
Yeeeeeeees
Way too Hard to overrate HM
Their last two albums were musically astounding. Mix of odd time signatures (this song goes in between 5/4, 6/8, and 4/4), amazing lyricism, and overall brilliant song structure.
John's drumming too, damn. I'm a drummer personally, and this album was very influential to learning how to play faster whilst not sacrificing endurance.
@Boston Hostetler streamline on Steal this album is one of the coolest musical pieces. It's soad going "yeah we can do prog too."
Next reaction: "Forest", track from Toxicity.
Agree their amazing they been my favorite band for years
If you're a metal fan and say you don't like SOAD then i immediately don't trust you. So much power, fun, ridiculousness and uniqueness in their music
I find it interesting that the 2 finalists are both vocalists that have a strong back up vocalist that harmonizes with them in almost every song. A nod should be given to Daron and Jerry for their contributions.
Daron with Serj epic chemistry. Check solo albums of Serj and Daron. It's like SOAD 2.0
Holy mountains pleeeease !
His vocals are incredible !!!
You will see...you won't be disappointed
Just do SOAD Saturdays already 😉❤️
Their whole catalog is worth doing a video of, just like it is with Maynard's works
Agreed!
System of a down Saturdays system of a down Saturdays system of a down saturdays guys make it happen please! Tool is my favorite band i clicked on it so fast every time you guys dropped a reaction system has a huge discography also
Props to John, System's drummer. How does he keep up with these guys? One of the best non-Danny Carey drummers out there.
John Dolmayan doesn't get enough credit! He is an amazing drummer, one of my favourites, and he is so underrated!
I loved this reaction, if you want to see another side of serj there’s this song named “Gate 21” it has 2 versions, a rock one and a live one, the live one is a show of serj’s range and piano ability, maybe you guys could enjoy it!
Interesting that both System and Alice both have amazing guitarist to harmonize with.
Daron's guitar tone in the chorus is so thick and chunky it could end world hunger, I fucking love it.
Standout song by SOAD 🤘🤘More Serj excellency: 'Roulette'
Cheers for the video guys. Fairly new to your channel. Have you checked out Holy Mountain by SOAD yet?
No we haven't but apparently we HAVE to
@@Hollywood6IX cheers for the reply guys and look forward to seeing your reactions to it 👍
i consider this to be one of the most ...complete ...pieces of music i have ever heard.....masterpiece ..

Great point. Both bands are lucky to have 2 great vocalists.
React to P.L.U.C.K., Dreaming or Innervision by SOAD please...
Gotta listen to his solo work too. Super good.
Loving you guys reacting to one of my favorite bands. Saw them live in 2006 after Mesmerize came out. I would love to see you react to Old School Hollywood. That one is honestly one of their weirder ones lol
You know you both are one of my favorite reaction channels. It's like a mini podcast each episode as well as dope music and reactions.
Still not givin Daron Malakian his credit on vocals. He gets lumped in as Serj's vocals and he's NO WHERE NEAR the same.
Think it’s time for “Psycho” by these fine gentlemen.
Ego Brain by SOAD at some point please. It's such an odd sounding song but lyrically to me is absolutely beautiful.
You guys should watch the live video of this. It will totally blow your minds. Both Serj's and Daron's vocal harmonization is one of a kind in metal bands.
Serj's vocals on Empty Walls is incredible.
THANK YOU. It's like no one remembers this song exists and you can't find the video for it anywhere either! I was starting to think I was losing my mind or had imagined the entire song and video lmao.

@@that.tool.chick0 I was thinking the same thing.
This is gonna be tough. Unless they chose Frogs. Luv both guyz. Soad has got 334 right now.
guys keep in mind Daron Malakian sings lots of backup vocals with Serj. Daron makes a lot of the background screaming. SOAD is amazing absolutely!
I really wanted to hit the like for you two and this channel, but remembered that the like is for the vote! So: 👍 This is my like for you two!!! I'll vote later!
Have a go at "Suggestions" by SOAD... u won't be sorry...
I agree with this. Warning post hypnotic suggestions.
Love Layne... but Serj is better in my opinion. The range is wider
Have you guys touched upon any of serjs solo stuff because empty walls is a good shout if not
Gate 21 is his best solo song

For appreciate vocals, I recommend "HOLY MOUNTAINS", for sure.
They sound just like this live 🤘🏽🔥🔥🔥🔥
Serg and Darin have fhe best harmonizing
Should have been Chris vs Layne
Chris and Layne ❤️❤️
