The lady is holding the HT the wrong way when talking into the radio. The antenna should be vertical, not horizontal. Very important when trying to talk further distances.
You can use a Bluetooth ear bud for your cell phone and mute it to prevent that echo interference from the infinite audio loop. Unmute to talk on the cell phone only when you think the radios are out of range.
If your wife had stepped onto the bridge and into the open a little more, with no trees in the way, you may have gotten a little more range between handhelds. UHF frequencies are primarily line-of-sight.
I was thinking this exact same thing. It would also be better to use an HT with a detachable antenna so you can use a higher gain & lower SWR whip style antenna like the Nogoya NA-771G
Rugged Radios makes a Tacoma mounting bracket that uses the passenger seat bracket bolt and radio installs against console with no holes drilled. Also works on 4Runners They don’t recommend running power wire and antenna cable together, apparently due to possible static.
🤣 such a misguided statement! Apparently our good buddy put that number into our heads on one of our last trips as he was calling them 15 watt radios the whole time and we didn’t even think twice about it! We tried to correct that statement as best as possible later in the video. We find it interesting that Midland doesn’t even list a spec on the wattage on their site.

12:48, hum how can you calculate four times smaller? Remember basic math, times is always more never less thus four times a number is always more. More correctly stated would be one quarter the original size. Also, you use the word utilize, utilize is not a fancy way to say use because it has a different meaning. Use means to consume from a limited supply or take something to achieve a result. Utilize means to use something beyond its intended purpose. Rather than using the correct word use, using utilize comes across as pompous and self ingratiating.
Nice one! Thanks for doing the work on this!
Next up we need to try setting one vehicle up as a repeater and see how far we can go!
radio to tower to radio is 20 miles radio to tower to radio that is what mine will do
also wondered if they actually set the mxt575 or handhelds on a high power stations
Glad to see I am not the only one who gets cut up hands every time I start crawling around my rig
Those radios are not 15 watt radios. Max allowed by a handheld on gmrs is 5 watts Those ones put out 2.8 watts on high power.
lol for real . Only democrats will believe those or any handheld Gmrs is 15 watts 😅
50 watt micro requires 20v to achieve the 50 watts

Thank you sad ham.
@@TheRealRenn I'm no ham operator :)
@@TheRealRenn Stupid comment. He is right. Not a ham either. He made a good point and you had to spurg idiocy anyway
Awesome collaboration..
Why are all the young dudes starting to look like Ragnar Lothbrok ? Great vid, too!

Also I used an addafuse and didn't have to wire through the firewall.
What does 5mins have to do with the use of the radio?
Distance he traveled away
Have you considered using a non ground plane antenna where the old CB antenna was?

I have GMRS, CB, and HAM radios in my FJ.
Aye just checking on y’all after idalia y’all good?
Thanks! We are good, Idalia was not too bad of a storm for us at our location.
@@SunshineStateVikings that’s good homie. Oh and waiting on some content.
You could have put the radio under the seat as well
You have short distance because the mike short
I prefer a ham radio that can work on gmrs and a good hot 11 meter radio for long range and all possible options.
8 watt hand held ham radios will not do more than 5 watts on GMRS channels
Interesting a 15 watt handheld radio
not sure I want 15 watts that close to my skull and eyeballs I even put a hand mic on my 8 watt baofeng

I would have kept the CB. Can't have too many options.
Handhelds are only 5 watts
The TIDRadio H8 handheld is 10W and is FCC type accepted for GMRS
@@raymacdhomhnuill8018 Nope. Only the ham one does
Challenge tidradio two way radio
Ahhh flat landers

Pompous and self ingratiating like this comment?
Absolutely no way those handhelds are 15 watts
Watching these off road/overlanding channels discuss comms 😆 with the action music.
Poor girl never realized she needed to mute her phone 🤦🏻♂️
PseudoViking cosplayers?
