i have to correct you on privacy tones. they only prevent the user from hearing other users not sharing the same tone as you..however other users not using a privacy tone can still hear your transmissions as long as they are within range of your radio.
and it realy is channels 15 through 22 on family service radio is are off repeater channels for G M R S that is why people the think the police are on are channels there not it is us using are F C C call sign's.
It would be very good if you mounted it as high as you can. If you can't make a bracket, you can buy one. I've got one listed in the description, HMO mount. You might be able to mount it on an accessories you've got mounted outside on the Jeep.
Great video. One comment though. Privacy tones Pt just limits what you can receive and not what everybody else can receive. So you will only be able to listen to radios with the same Pt, but people who are not using Pt will still be able to hear your conversation. So the name Privacy tone is a bit misleading. Its quite the opposite.
Thanks for that, I was trying to find information on privacy tones and they were a bit unclear.more or less what I got from it was that if multiple radios or sharing the same privacy tones it keeps their conversations a bit more private than if they weren't.
The Right Line my understanding is that your radio will squelch out any transmission that doesn’t include the Privacy Tone, so the channel now only includes transmissions from your group, but every body else will still hear your transmissions unless they have set a Pt on their radio.
Yes, John is correct. PTs just filters out other conversations so you don't hear them. But others can still hear you. So.. you still need to be careful with what you say. You wouldn't want to put any info out there that you don't want others to hear.
This was helpful, BUT I am trying to figure out a few things to use this as a "base station". 1. If I use the longer 6db antenna mounted on a metal porch roof over my outdoor grilling area, do I need to "ground" the magnetic base somehow ? 2. Should I mount a different antenna a little higher on my roof or chimney and if so which antenna and where do I get a much longer RG 8 or RG 58 cable ? Thnaks in advance ...TW
@@TheRightLineTrue, I have a Radioddity GM-30 that you can add or delete to the scanning channels, that much have been what I was remembering. I just added a CTCSS receive tone and quieted the channel. Thanks, great video
I've had my MXT275 for a few months now. I've really come to like it a lot. I've been using it with the 3db ghost antenna which has been great.. but out of curiosity.. I decided to order the 6db whip antenna last night. I guess I'm just curious to see how much of an improvement it will be. Anyway.. good video. Cheers.
Hi Joe, I haven't used the 6db off-road yet but I regularly listen to the GMRS on the way to work and have noticed better clarity and a lot more traffic on the radio presumably because it's receiving more. I also switched to the MXT 400 and so far, I like it.
@@TheRightLine Nice. I almost went for the MXT400.. but i liked the option of having all the controls on the mic. Its worked great so far. I was thinking about getting a radio for my camper too.. and if I do.. I may go for the MXT400 for my truck and move the 275 to the camper. But I haven't decided yet.
I would say that my radio seemed to receive better and transmit better in large groups since I added the 6db to my jeep. But I have since reinstalled the 275 and gone back to the ghost antenna 3db for the space savings and speaker in the handheld. I think the 6db is paired better with the 400.
Good vid. I love the display on the mic and would take this radio over a higher wattage one just to have it since I have very little dash real estate to work with to see a radios front facing display. (Even a detachable head will be a challenge.) Question: If setting a tone on a repeater channel for a local repeater, can you save it to another channel location? I'd like to be able to do that and preserve the open channel (that I didn't add a tone to) as well. Or, is that channel only useful for that repeater once done? If so, it'd mean I cannot add a few local repeaters and still have the same number of higher power channels to use in simplex mode.
This is one of the best Mobile radio configurations I've seen. Everything is on the Handheld
I love it!
Thanks! This is great, I could only find reviews and not "how to use" so this is very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Great vids. Just got my radio last night and will be installing it this afternoon. Heading to the KAT this weekend.
Awesome thanks! The MXT275 is my favorite.
AND LET'S NOT FOR GET THE LICENSEE for the radio PLEASE you need it

👍 thank you for that.

but those do not work on G M R S just PL tones to reach a repeater tower
Really really helped me out! Thanks for the video.
You bet. Thanks for watching!

You might need to run a ground cable. The higher the antenna the better. Hmmm, not sure where to get another cable but I'm sure the Internet knows.
your mag net antenna is a no ground I use that on my base ok.
I am using a no ground mag mount antenna and it works fine
a mag mount will not need a ground wire I use one on a file cabinet in the window it is in line with the repeater tower.
Thats what i was looking for :) thank you
Very cool, your welcome. Thanks for watching.
Looking for any way to deselect a channel from scanning. Local group here keeps a channel tied up and want to skip over that one.
Edit: I just set a CTCSS code on the radio for that channel 😊
Hmmm, dunno if that's possible.

It's definitely nice not to have to mount a larger radio but fortunately I found a space in the Jeep.
Did you have good results with the 6db antenna?

I think you can save it to another channel but I'm not 100% sure. I'm still trying to figure out repeater use.
when you set the c d ROM then there is a three didget code mine is 114.3
then and only then can you come up on the repeter tower
there is 8 channels for G M R S repeter channels which repeter channels to operate on
15-22 I believe
your right should read rpt then the channel number
Nice, quick, informative video. Thanks! #jtrspartacus
Thank you.

This works flawlessly right out of the box ?
Yep. Love this radio.

Another SA fishing hat that the top has ripped out? Cool hats, disappointing quality.
Yes. I have only owned two and don't have any now. I'm done with the brand. I found a new hat to wear. Thanks for watching.
