  • Here’s why & how to eat dates during pregnancy ⬇️
First, studies show that eating dates in late pregnancy can:
⁍ Create an oxytocin-like effect on the body, leading to increased sensitivity of the uterus.
    ⁍ Stimulates uterine contractions.
⁍ Reduces postpartum hemorrhage the way oxytocin does.
⁍ Help create a shorter first stage of labor.
⁍ Help you dilate more efficiently.
⁍ Reduces the risk of c-section (thanks to effective uterine contractions and improved dilation).
⁍ Increased rate of spontaneous labor.
⁍ Less need for forceps and vacuum extractions.
⁍ Less risk of intervention cascades.
Dates aren’t just helpful at the end of pregnancy either. They contain B vitamin folate, an important nutrient during pregnancy as it prevents serious neural tube defects. They also provide vitamin K and iron 一 both of which are essential for a developing baby!
Woohoo! So, how do you bank on those benefits? Here’s what you need to know:
❓WHEN DO YOU START EATING DATES DURING PREGNANCY?
According to the multiple studies on the topic, mamas ate 70-75g of dried dates per day three or four weeks before their estimated due date. In other words, start focusing on your dates at the 36 week mark.
❓HOW MANY DATES SHOULD YOU EAT?
Eat six dates a day starting at 36 weeks.
You can definitely eat dates throughout your entire pregnancy, but if you have high sugar, go easy on them since they are high in sugar!
    ❓MY FAVORITE DATE RECIPES
I think dates are delicious and I love to eat them as is. They are also AMAZING rolled in unsweetened coconut flakes.
    You can also:
⁍ Add a smear of almond butter
⁍ Stuff dates with cheese and a drizzle of honey
⁍ Make date balls (blend together the following and roll into 1-inch balls: 12-14 dates, 1/2 cup of unsweetened shredded coconut, 1 cup of raw almonds, 1 tbsp of cacao powder (or cocoa), 1 tsp of chia seeds, 2 tbsp coconut oil)
⁍ Add chopped dates to oatmeal
⁍ Add dates to your favorite smoothie (add some Mama Natural Collagen for an extra nutrient punch!) 🥤
⁍ Make coconut cream date bars (blend the following in a food processor then press into a dish and refrigerate: 15 Medjool Dates, 1/2 cup almonds, 1/2 cup cashews, 3/4 cup shredded unsweetened coconut, 2 T coconut oil, 2 T water)
⁍ ⁍ Or for a super easy hack, eat 1 Lara Bar a day.
You can find more date recipes on my blog. Search MamaNatural dates.
    ❓WHERE DO I BUY DATES?
You can buy your dates at your local food co-op, grocery store, or international grocery shop. You can also buy them online through Amazon or other retailers.
❓SHOULD I GET THE BIG MEDJOOL DATES OR SMALLER DATES LIKE DEGLET NOOR DATES?
Both contain the same nutrients and benefits during pregnancy. Either are fine so chose which ones you like best.
➡️ For the larger medjool dates, you need 3 dates a day.
➡️ For the smaller Deglet Noor dates, you need the full 6 dates a day.
Do you eat dates during your last four weeks of pregnancy? What’s your favorite recipe?

For my first I started eating dates in my 3rd trimester and started eating the 3-6 dates at the end and had an extremely fast labor. I dilated so quickly and my contractions were strong. Totally planning to eat dates again when I get to the 3rd trimester this second time around

chapter 19 sura Mariam (Mary peace be upon her)
      23. The labor-pains came upon her, by the trunk of a palm-tree. She said, “I wish I had died before this, and been completely forgotten.”
      24. Whereupon he called her from beneath her: “Do not worry; your Lord has placed a stream beneath you.
      25. And shake the trunk of the palm-tree towards you, and it will drop ripe dates by you.”
One of the miracles mentioned in the Quran is the assistance of dates during the delivery of Mariam (Mary, peace be upon her) when she was giving birth to Isa (Jesus, peace be upon him). The dates played a significant role in ensuring a smooth delivery for her.

I ate dates at the end of my first two pregnancies, and both babies were born about 10 days before their due dates and short labors. And both home births! I'm planning to start them again near the end of this third pregnancy.

Actually benefits of dates for the pregnant women is mentioned in Islam teachings before 1400 years, as mentioned in the Holy Quran through birth of Jesus (Peace be upon him) story, in chapter named (Mary), verses 25 and 26 :
{( 25 ) And shake toward you the trunk of the palm tree; it will drop upon you ripe, fresh dates.
    ( 26 ) So eat and drink and be contented. And if you see from among humanity anyone, say, 'Indeed, I have vowed to the Most Merciful abstention, so I will not speak today to [any] man.' "}
And the prophet of Islam demonstrates us that every person eats 7 dates in the morning every day will be protected of poisons.

With my first baby, I was induced at 41+2. With my second, I started eating dates at 36 weeks and ended up going into labor naturally at 39+2, two whole weeks earlier! Of course I can’t say for sure if the dates. Helped with that, but I like to think so :) However, I did find a discrepancy between 6 dates vs the amount of grams the study said to eat. I think I had to eat 9 or 10 dates to get the right weight

I did eat dates towards the end. I piped peanut butter in them and dipped them in chocolate. Nice night snack and sweet treat. I feel like it did allow me to have a quick and effective labor! Only 8 active hrs.

I’m not a believer in the dates. I’m currently pregnant with baby #7. My first 5 pregnancies I had never heard of this, so this never tried it. Went into labor spontaneously in a reasonable time frame. 6th pregnancy- ate the dates religiously. She was a week late, my cervix was so high my provider tried multiple times to sweep my membrane and couldn’t even reach it. I ended up trying castor oil at 41 weeks, which worked, and ended up causing a partial placental abruption and almost killed us both. Now my provider is forcing me to induce at 39 weeks to avoid another near death experience. I’ve tried to reach my cervix to check to see if it’s favorable and I can’t reach it. I’m 38 weeks and nervous as heck to be induced. I’ve never been induced and I’ve also never had an epidural and don’t plan to get one, so I’m scared I’ll be in more pain this time.

Studies huh? 🤔 this information was in the Quran 1400 years ago. It was in the chapter of Mary (Jesus’s mother) peace be upon them. These studies were adopted from the Muslims.
“Then the pains of labour drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She cried, “Alas! I wish I had died before this, and was a thing long forgotten!”
So a voice reassured her from below her, “Do not grieve! Your Lord has provided a stream at your feet. And shake the trunk of this palm tree towards you, it will drop fresh, ripe dates upon you.
So eat and drink, and put your heart at ease. But if you see any of the people, say, ‘I have vowed silence to the Most Compassionate, so I am not talking to anyone today.’”
    Quran 19:23-19:26

That is true. In the Quran it is said that God asked Mary, the mother of Jesus to shake the date palm tree during labor in order to get an easy delivery.
And the amount of 7 dates is mentioned through Prophet Muhammad ❤
