If you can yes, but lucky for me nothing bad happened so far. Still have the same kit and its running strong. just remember to clean the filter and you'll be fine.

What did you end up doing to the coolant bypass lines, or the lines that were connected to the breather hose?

Hey I have a 2015 civic ex 1.8 auto I don’t know if I should go cold intake or short ram

If you like a bit more performance go cold air. If you want to hear the intake go shortram. Also, depending on your kit, you want something that will prevent you from sucking in water with a cold air because they usually go lower in the engine bay which have the potential to suck in water if you over deep water.

What happens to the bottom hose connected to the old air filter housing?

That was removed along with the air box.

This kit did not come with a heat shield. Some do though.
