    Please remember the water pump is driven by the balance shaft chain and not the timing chain. People get them mixed up alot. Also I would install the tool upside down to the way you have it to prevent the bolts from falling into the engine.

      Both those are great points, but turning the tool up side down is genius👍👍 I never thought about that to stop the bolts from potentially falling in the engine👍👍👍

      The tool is adjustable to prevent the bolts falling into engine , thats why you see the tool with slots

      Is the water pump beeing lubricated by the engine oil?

    • @gav3379
      @gav3379 11 месяцев назад

      Water pump bearing are sealed so no lubrication is necessary. However the sprocket enters the timing case which is lubricated with the oil nozzle. If the pump seal fails it could allow coolant to mix with the oil.

      @@gav3379aha ok thanks. I thought it was lubricated by the engine oil and thats why they last a long time as mine has 200,000km and factory water pump

    Great video! I am replacing a pump in an '07 HHR this week and after watching this I'm sure that I will get it done. I already bought the o-rings, those have to be ordered.

    Idk why the comments seem aggressive. Good job i like you’re way of thinking. Maybe if you have to do it again in the future do a PART 2 inside the car. Great video i like your professionalism

    I appreciate you taking the time to comment, and you definitely do not have to remove the engine to replace the water pump.
    I said in the beginning of the video and that it was just impossible to film the replacement of the water pump I was replacing so I was going to demonstrate on the engine I had removed already to show the procedure I use.

    The gasket on the thermostat housing with the 10mm bolts is bad on my cobalt but I can’t find a part number. Do you happen to have a part number just for the gasket?

    I'm not judging at all making that clear, why is the tarp that protects the engine from oxidizing on the bottom of the motor instead of rapped around it. Just curious love the vid.

    Not much of a mechanic I did it with the engine still in the car and I didn't take off the down pipe or the exhaust manifold Yes it can be done taking the engine out is a waste of time

      I appreciate the comment, but I mentioned in the beginning of the video that it was hard to film the one I was replacing inside the vehicle so I was going to demonstrate the procedure on an engine I removed from another project
      You definitely do not have to remove the engine to replace the water pump ever

      You do not have to remove the engine to replace the water pump I was just demonstrating how it was done on an engine I already had out of the car.
      When I did the water pump on the car that needed it it was almost impossible to film 👍
