ytmndan, what is so terrible about the cleaning mats? I don't have one, but am curious about your opinion of them.
I use a automotive fender protector I bought in 1972 that's perfect. It's rubberized top surface on a soft felt cloth type backing sized to protect a full size fender or as a tool holder across the radiator and front end support with two stitched in 1/2" raised barriers to keep parts and tools from rolling or falling off. It's flexible, can be folded easily and has never deteriorated despite lots of Hoppes #9 and other chemicals on it. It's about 3 ft wide side to side and 2 ft deep front to back. I covers a large area on my work bench.
I have two mats exactly like the ones in the video but I seldom use them unless doing smaller tasks at my desk.

As a newbie, I didn't think about a cleaning mat. Thanks for a good suggestion, Chad. Also, I assume that each manufacturer markets their own cleaning kit. Is it better to buy something specific to the manufacturer, or a "generic" kit?
I grabbed a roll of rubber draw liner from the dollar store. Not pretty but it works great!

Wont the gun mat get "grease" after lubricating the gun?
Will a pistol/rifle left laid on it for a while not leave permanent ding/marks on this mat after a while?

I fill out DS forms (Not going to go into major details) but basically you fill out these forms online and you get stuff mailed to your for free. NO clue what you will get or when if at all ... Today I got one of these and i thought it was a mouse pad lol. It's a 1911 pinty one.

Brayden Pearce They do not. Mine absorbed oil immediately and began curling up the first time I used it.
They're complete junk. I bought one for my p938 and it started curling up after the first use. The rubber bottom absorbed the oil and expanded, while the neoprene topper maintained its size. Five uses later, and it's completely unusable. Avoid at all costs.
