He was classicaly trained, i do not have the name of his professor but in his online masterclass on April he talked a bit about his classical education, there are more biography and interview videos around as well where he talks about his classical study. He just did not graduated from "big name colleges" (as far as i know) or anything. He is that.. a genius and more.

What's the lol that he plays on a Yamaha instrument? They make some of the worlds finest pianos, and done so since 1887 or something like that. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I think he actually prefers Yamaha--maybe for the brighter tone, and they tend to be pretty "neutral" sounding, so he can bend the tone a bit more to his will.
