Mock test a day before her actual driving test | Is it always a good idea to use the highest gear?

  • This is Asmae, she has done around 40 hours with an instructor and has also been driving with her family in between. Asmae has had one failed attempt at her practical test and her next test was a day after this mock test was recorded. She is used to driving upto high speeds and uses her gears very well, but this sometimes means she's driving a little hasty. Watch her mock test to see how she gets on.

    After a bundle of stress, anxiety & setbacks I finally passed my test, 2nd attempt, on the 25th of May! ✨ My motivation was for my late friend Andrew who had sadly passed away last year during the pandemic, he had a ‘test pass’ card made for me which he never got to give personally, he had it tucked away for me once I had achieved it, his family had given it to me before his funeral. Soon as I get a car in a couple weeks I will visit him where he rests & finally open it up in his honour, to let him know I’ve finally done it for him! 🙂 To every cloud there is a silver lining …💫
    Thank you to the beautiful Aman for sharing your knowledge with us all & to those who are all on their learning journey, don’t give up & remember why you started in the first place, you will succeed….💚 🧙‍♂️💚

    Guys very honest bit of advice here, whatever you do do not book the test unless your instructor advises you to do so! If you don't feel confident in your instructor then change the instructor. Trust me this will help you out in the long run. You want to pass in your first go? Put in the hours. Do not go for a driving test after doing 10 hours of lessons and thinking you will pass the test because 9/10 times this will not be the case. Prepare yourself and practice in good time and put in the time and once you feel confident enough to take the test then you should have a chat with your instructor about the exam. In most case scenarios those who have test's already booked before having a instructor or with a driving school believe me you will find it very difficult for someone to take you on under their wing as your instructor. Just a bit of advice for those that feel like they want to book the driving test before they feel ready for it.

    Using a lower gear gives more engine braking when you ease off the gas whereas if you were in too high a gear the car blunders on for a bit until you brake. A number of modern cars have a dashboard indication to change up generally for fuel efficiency not ease of controlling the vehicle.

    Asmae seems like a fun an bubbly person but.....1 She was very nervous at the begining and needs to try and not let the nerves get to her 2. She was talking to much and taking the test as a bit of a fun activity. Im not trying to judge her as I sometimes do the same. Some days I will have a driving lesson and I'm just in the mood to drive have fun and talk crap with my instructor, however those days are the days I make a bunch of mistakes and get told off multiple times by my instructor until I am no longer in a good mood and just want the lesson to finish. When I have my serious head on, I make far fewer mistakes and finish the lesson in a more positive mood. During a test, mock or real, this is the mindset you need to have, and I feel Asmae wasnt in serious mood enough. She clearly is a good driver but needs to tightened up somethings, and be more alert to changing conditions of the road.

I passed my test but parking is a killer. During my test (in Singapore), we are tested on our parking as well but then since its in a controlled and familiar environment it doesn't replicate outside world. Parking during test after tons of practice lessons in an isolated slot is easy.

    Could it be a serious/dangerous fault in these tests if someone passes a junction in a risky way but he/she has priority?
    I mean things like not slowing down even if the other vehicle isn't giving me way and so getting close or "forcing" the priority in other ways.
    In real life, if you behave like this, the other could try to make it seem you're wrong and many road rages happen for this, so defensive driving is always the best option

      Hey she’s been checking her
      Mirrors regular before this so it’s not a fault
      She also checked her mirrors after the signal
      It’s only a fault if she doesn’t check or if someone’s there on the left

    Firstly they didn't have such beautiful instructors when I learnt to drive..... Just a small comment, I thought Asmae could have used her handbrake more in situations when she was stationery at ATS or in traffic therefore having better control. Other than your observations a good drive.

    I just dont get the logic of people resting their foot on the clutch. Clearly you are at risk of depressing it now and then, which will effect your control of the car, and most cars literally have a foot rest next to it, which would suggest you should be resting your foot there.

    • @isa..333
      @isa..333 2 года назад +3

      i think it may come from a fear of letting the car stall, and with resting her foot there, that it's easier to access the clutch

    • @daltonellis6779
      @daltonellis6779 2 года назад +2

      I don't rest my foot on the clutch but I always have my foot hovering over it as it makes me feel safer as I feel I can stop immediately without stalling if needed. Bad habit but it's difficult to get rid of.
