Your video is so well done and so informative. I’ve been looking for info on the best settings, along with the reason behind them. Thank you, thank you!
I moved recently and In the area where I live, I'm only getting 2.5-3 mbps up and tried streaming an offline game at 720p and had terrible results. I thought I would not be able to stream anymore =( But after following your video and a couple other tutorials, I'm managing to stream at 720p 60fps with 224 audio bitrate. It sounds good and the image quality isn't that bad (not ideal, but wayyyy better than before optimizing). Now I can stream again! Thank you so much for your help!
Thank you for another great video. I love that your videos really focus on what a church has to do to get best sound and picture quality; the video gamers are great too, but they don't address all the same issues that churches face. Your tutorials have got us up and running for the quarantine-stream. We want to continue the live-streaming after the congregation is allowed back to church. I checked out your other videos on which cameras are appropriate, already we are making headway in making a proposal for the simplest 'sound booth' arrangements. Blessings!
You speak very well , this video is absolutely great ! You are the guy that company's should pay to make explanation videos. I already knew all of this just wanted to double check and this video was perfect. Thank you sir
Jeff Swartzentruber well, i’ve learned a lot in the last three weeks since watching this. You have to have the perfect storm of a good camera, the correct configuration in OBS, and a computer that is capable of processing everything. I finally isolated my problem down to my computer. My computer is a mid 2012 MacBook Pro and it’s way too slow to keep up with all of this. I’m not a big computer guy so that never even occurred to me. I’m running Catalina on my MacBook and my day to day stuff works just like it did the day I got the computer years ago. I didn’t realize that it was severely lacking in the video processing department. I’ve since been looking at a new beefed up PC. I think that’s one of the things that a lot of people fail to mention in these tutorials. You have to have the power under the hood to make all the stuff work properly. Hopefully this comment will help anyone else that’s having the same problem.
@@DustinBairdsolo ahhh great to know. Ive been wanting a sharper image for our livestream and I thought we just needed to look into trying to stream in 1080, but from this video, looks like we are stuck with 720 but we probably arent getting as sharp of a recording as we probably could be.
Thankyou. you speask slowly cleasrly not only changing stuff but explaining why what it does. As i am new to OBS as i am fed up with just face book live. When i started streaming oibs it kept pausing the broadcast. so hope settings work now.
This is GREAT info, brother -- Thank you! There are a couple of details where my opinion might be different than yours -- but overall, I'm shaking my head yes, yes, yes, this guy know what he's doing! Thank you so much!
Great video - Finally got my settings right to minimize the 'black bars' on the side of the screen using the new EOS Webcam Utility form my 5Ti - Thanks!
Nice video! Just checking in to see what settings and suggestions you have. We tend to try to stream at higher framerates to keep the video smooth, but it definitely takes a bit beefier computer to handle it. Keep up the good work!
excellent job thank you for explaining each of the settings and pros and cons for the setting specifically. So many other people just say use the setting and move on.
GREAT VIDEO! I'm doing a Ballastflix right now, watching all your videos hahaha. Whats is the bit rate you recommend for streaming in 360p or 480p? The internet and PC are not great in my church, and It's lagging too much (I've watched your video about that too) so I want to spare bandwidth and process power. I believe I should reduce the video resolution at the cameras and swicher too in sort of sparing the PC?
What video interface do you have? Yes, you can run 480p at about 1500, or 360p you could run down to 700 if you have to and still have a manageable image. Experiment with it a little. If you can add a graphics card that supports nvenc to your pc it will make a world of difference.
Thanks for having actual captions for the Deaf! I am helping with Facebook Livestream for church using OBS and Blackmagic Web presenter. Your videos are a great help. I have subscribed.
Thank you so much for doing these videos. So helpful! I have one question. Our audio is coming from Logic Pro X which is then being sent to another computer running OBS. At 8:34 you start going over the audio settings. When you use the term “input source”, you’re referring to audio, correct? You’re saying that audio from a video source will most likely be 48khz. However, since my “input source” is from Logic, I can set this at either 44 or 48, correct? Thanks for the help. Much appreciated!
Hi Steve , Thank you so much for your videos, really helpful. I have a question, in 9:35 You made a comment about to keep an eye on the dropped frame indicator , cause it means problem, but what is the best way to fix this on the fly ?
Unfortunately there really isn't a way to fix this on the fly, you can't change encoder settings while it's encoding. That's why its important to test before you actually go live.
Great Steven as always! I would like to see inyour future videos how to manage with internet in case of taking services to another venue (hotel, club, church) far away your headquarters, where the bandwidth can not be appropriate to a live streaming. Cheers!
All the same principles would still apply. Know what your upload bandwidth is, and set your bit rate accordingly. Unfortunately when streaming you are at the mercy of your bandwidth. Might want to lower the resolution of your stream so a lower bandwidth will still look ok. Also, if any way possible avoid wifi and use an Ethernet connection. This would still apply no matter where you are: ruclips.net/video/-OyOBRhjYeo/видео.html
Thank you for your concise and thorough explanation of the basic OBS settings, it's exactly what I was needing in my Church Streaming journey. But as a person with not quite perfect hearing, I find the (obligatory?) backing track very distracting. You have such a clear voice and confident speaking manner, why spoil that with the addition of the unnecessary "music-on-hold"? Looking forward to more of your excellent advice, thanks!
This is fantastic, thank you so much! WOuld the streaming for YT and Twitch be best left the same, do you know? I'm not steaming games or anything, basically the same set up for scenes etc. Again, thanks so much for this.
This video is super helpful, informative, and well-done. Thank you! Would you mind recommending what I would need for CPU and RAM? I'm streaming music to Facebook with one channel of audio and one channel of midi, plus effects. The DAW then goes through OBS to the stream.
As always, I recommend an i7 processor, 16GB of Ram, and using an NVIDIA graphics card that supports NVENC. Then you can encode video on your graphics card and that will free up your CPU for the DAW.
Hi Thanks a lot for your suggestions... this video really helped.... I would appreciate if you can kindly help me with some clarifications I am in need of. 1) In the source section i selected the audio input capture which is my Audio Interface... I also tried to play a pre-recorded video through MEDIA SOURCE..... how to i get audio from the same video which I am trying to play... the video too is upside down lol ... is there any settings i can make? 2) Does OBS support Stereo audio input or is it only MONO ? Thanks in advance for your kindness. Cheers
You should create a scene for each of your different sources. So a scene for playback, with your media source, and a scene for Live Video with your video and audio input devices. Not sure about the upside down video though! ha
Great Content. Salute sir. RUclips shows" RUclips is not receiving enough video to maintain smooth streaming. As such, viewers will experience buffering. " when I conduct live class through OBS. How to overcome it with? With a lot of thanks.
Hi!! Thank you so much for your video. I got question, i'm in Europe and i receive signal into my computer from an Atem tv at 1080 50p. In this case, how many frames should I select in Obs? streaming would be on Facebook or RUclips.
Facebook doesnt support pal frame rates, only 30. Your best off converting to 30 on your end, or if you let Facebook do the conversion you'll most likely get motion artifacts.
@@BallastMedia Is it the same for RUclips? In this case I can use a Decimator md hx for example and convert that signal to 1080 30 and problem solved. Thanks
Saving this to favorites!! Now I just have to figure out how to turn the AF off, I turned the grid off on remote shooting and on the camera and it still showed up 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️ I was so embarrassed lol
And by the way, this was a game changer for us. Dropped frames were abysmal, but this fixed it (as long as our internet provider gives us enough bandwidth).
Great video. I am trying to use an rmtp feed from GoPro 8 Black into OBS Studio (ver 25.0.8) using the monaserver (v2.565) on my windows 7 laptop. Everything is great except for the 3s lag coming from setBufferTime being set by OBS to 3000ms. Is there a way to change this parameter to something lower than 3000ms like 30ms ? Thanks.
Hi I just came across your channel by chance and found it very helpful so I have subbed....could you please help me with something.. In this video you mention Output - recording - rate control - set to VBR And bitrate - set to high 30,000 I am only recording so I took note of this part of the video. I am using a two canon 100d cameras and also an iPhone 8 Plus all as cameras plugged into an a let usb hub which is plugged into my MacBook Pro. For audio I have a Yamaha mg series mixer plugged into the usb hub and analog xlr mics plugged into the mixer. The recording itself is ok but it doesn’t look professionals nhs sometimes drops frames. My rate control however is set to CBR not VBR. And bitrate is set to 8000. Should I change to VBR and Chang’s bitrate to 30,000 for optimal finished results?
Find out the bit rate your cameras are coming in at, no reason to go higher then that. Also, in obs if you go to the View menu and click Stats while you are recording, it will give you a good indication as to what is causing dropped frames.
Short question. I own a Macbook Pro from 2018. I last connected my DSLR via USB and integrated it into OBS using a software solution. A USB mic is also connected to the Macbook Pro. When streaming, the Macbook Pro box has already reached its limits and the CPU load ensures that you can actually no longer use the computer to work in a program and stream a video tutorial, for example. The ATEM Mini Pro with built-in encoder could solve this problem for me. In any case, I understand it that way, when I connect all the hardware mentioned to the ATEM Mini Pro and also connect my Macbook Pro to the ATEM via HDMI, that I can stream directly from the ATEM Mini Pro and the entire CPU performance would no longer come to fruition yes the ATEM is working. How does it all work when I connect all my hardware to the ATEM Mini Pro and connect it to my Macbook Pro via USB-C and then stream from my Macbook Pro via OBS (source is then ATEM video and audio). Is the CPU utilization of my Macbook Pro even smaller than when I use the first scenario without ATEM? Have you been able to gain experience on this?
Connecting the Mini to the MacBook would be the same as connecting the camera to the MacBook, each are seen as a video feed that the MacBook has to encode. Using the MacBook as a source in to the atem mini pro and streaming from it, sounds like the best way to go for you. (Short of purchasing a new computer that is up to the task)
