- Welcome to A Day In The Life Of Mikey and Mia on Holiday! This video is a full day of us taking our 2 Macaws on vacation, stopping at pubs, staying in parrot friendly hotels, and of course, lots of free flying as birds are meant to fly.
This was more of a chilled real life vlog compared to our usual fast cut energetic style so we hope you enjoy it.

I wish every parrot had a life like you give your birds, it's inspiring.
Agree. There is another you tuber who has way too many pets and can’t give his bird much time. At the moment he has given the bird to a friend with the intention of getting it back when he gets a bigger property…the fact of the matter is he will never give that bird the time and energy they need like these two . Those two are spoilt rotten !
I know who you’re talking about also. It ticks me off that he sought professional help but still triggers the bird’s hormones through stroking despite knowing better. Literally the first thing he did when he visited the bird was stroke her back.
If you are not completely against the perpetuation of captivity for wildlife, you are part of the problem. Parrots suffer horribly in captivity, and miserable parrots number in the tens of thousands, if not more, in the United States alone.
@@kellytansy6850 Taking animals into captivity isn’t inherently a bad thing. There are plenty of species that would be extinct if it wasn’t for the passionate conservation of the species through captive breeding. If it wasn’t for captive breeding, many parrots would be extinct in the wild and in captivity. The same goes for other animals, especially amphibians. There are always going to be irresponsible people and those who truly care. Don’t let the irresponsible people turn you away from all the good those who care can do.
None of these birds are going to go back to the wild. If they were, the people with them would be ending the birds’ dependence on them, but they’re not, they’re using them to make money. I have evidence to back my claims up that are supported by wildlife biologists all over the world. I will continue to speak because I know many of these animals suffer enormously and end up with torturers! If you care, please start educating yourself.
Humans: tell the birds not to go up there
Mikey: I'll pretend I didn't hear that
Our daily life
The fact is that wild animals resent being controlled. Thankfully, to my knowledge they’ve never been bred for domestication! So you have all these instincts of curiosity which have enormous survival in the wild frustrated in even the best captive situations!
@@kellytansy6850 honestly Kelly, we know what you are doing and it’s actually not bad, most of what you say is true, but spending your entire days spamming our comment section won’t get you anywhere. Here’s a few facts you would be known if you actually watched a few videos and did a bit of research instead of jumping to ridiculous conclusions.
Mikey and Mia were both re homed from families who couldn’t care for them, and both breed in captivity. (Closed leg rings can not be put on a bird trafficked)
We never ever encourage anyone to buy birds ever. We think all birds shouldn’t be pets, if breeding for pets stopped now we would be very very happy, we would throw a party, you could come, if we could release both of ours to the wild and 100% know they would survive, we would. Due to the fact we would have no idea if they are alive or dead would be heartbreaking.
We fly them everyday and do our best to find the most empty parks possible as the attention isn’t all that great so flying to entertain the people is vastly incorrect lol.
The hotel didn’t actually want the birds… so your threads of spam saying they wanted them for publicity/money is very incorrect. We had to beg, they also said we couldn’t fly them on the grounds, only at the back away from everyone… We can’t really control where they fly.
Every single penny ever made from this RUclips channel has never been touched. It’s all going towards a huge house in the countryside with the biggest aviary you could possibly imagine for Mikey and Mia and to hopefully save neglected birds to rehabilitate and re home to responsible educated people.
In regards to caging them to transport them, well… It really shouldn’t need to be explained that having them out in an open car isn’t the safest option and they aren’t exactly going to fly to where we tell them to… They kinda do what they want
We have full plans to educate everyone and have been on how against breeders we are, we have re homed many many birds over the years because of this platform to much much better homes, and never once have encouraged anyone to buy birds.
The meet and greets are basically people watching what we do everyday to hopefully encourage bird owners to give their birds better lives, all birds that attend have to be tested for many diseases before attending.
You have probably left around 20 or so comments on this video so you seem like you have a lot to say so if this hasn’t answered all of your questions, pop us a message on Facebook/Instagram/email, I’ll give you my number and we can chat.
@@MikeyTheMacaw is there a way to block her? she's being really obnoxious
I was about to be really upset at how rude the hotel receptionists were being, but then I heard Hotel Ligaya and saw Mikey Bustos and felt a lot better! 😂
Haha awww
Yep, his African Grey Parrot. She will be missed.

Love that you got Mikey to voice over/ cameo one of the calls lmao!
Actually a very informative video, keep it up
Haha thanks. It was good fun.
After volunteering at a bird rescue it makes me so happy to see you and your parrot enthusiast friends so loving and free flighting their companions.
We do our best to keep them happy.
Mikeys daily routine: Wake up, eat, play, free flight, eat, sleep
Skipping free flying: Humans are doomed for they have not witnessed the horror mikey posesses
Hahah yup
@Ian Johnson I have been there. I'm so sorry.
@Ian Johnson I do. I've been living with severe chronic pain for the last 20 years, and it just gets worse. waking up is dreadfully hard, trying to get something done is painful and depressing, and just gets worse. I'm with you.
Honestly, if I didn't my parrot budy to take care of, things would be different. ( see left shoulder in avatar.)
@@davidgreen5099 I live with chronic pain too. It began with a slip on the ice that gave me whiplash in my 20s. My world has gotten smaller through the years. I looked at your profile and see we follow many RUclipsrs in common, including Karlyn and "B-Shap." 👍🏼 Your cockatoo friend looks lovely. I have made friends with a cockatoo being boarded nearby. His person has been literally stuck in Wuhan since the beginning of the coof. So he appreciates the attention.
@Ian Johnson hey you
Yes you
I want you to know one thing
You are AWSOME
honestly other then possible damages to a room having macaws at your hotel seems like a huge positive as not only gives your employees some stress relief by watching them at slow times/breaks but the guests can come out and watch them and have a positive time which their brain will link to that hotel as well xD
Get well soon Daddy Human, that hotel looked awesome by the way.
Was that Mikey Bustos at 2:23?
@@Chris_Gordon_1973 Yes lol
Mikey Bustos , Nice to see him in your video
I love when they fly, it’s magical to watch! 💚
We never get sick of it.
It always makes me so happy to see how they bring joy to everyone elses faces when they are flying
Stunning all around! Great to see Mia liking DaddyHuman more and more :D Hope DaddyHuman's back heals up VERY soon too!!
“we’re gonna try to blend in” *everyone wants to play with the macaws* (i sure would i want one when im older and more experienced, im doing research and getting a cockatiel in two months 😁)
Ayyyy happy you found a pet friendly hotel :D
Macaws and all wildlife are meant to live in the wild. Promoting the ownership of these animals only perpetuates their suffering.
@@kellytansy6850 😂😂😂
@@kellytansy6850 do your research, if it wasn't for captive macaws the wild ones would be already extinct. Plus Mikey and Mia have a way better life than wild birds of their species, since there's only one left in the Amazon rainforest.
Not true. Being bred into the pet trade won’t help the species at all. If there is a captive breeding plan with release into a wild native area, then yes. No this looks like a situation like the animals are losing. I hope they become rehabilitations instead, but there’s less money in it.
The birds and other captives are doing more crying than me about this. I pray to God people stop keeping these animals as pets.
What a lovely couple of humans taking great care of a lovely pair of Blue and Yellow Macaws. I saw them in Ecuador in addition to Scarlet Macaws.
Seems like the hotel guests enjoyed ‘The Mikey & Mia Show’!! 😆 I always took my birds on a 7 day vacation to a cabin in the woodlands of Upper Minnesota, USA each summer. Just packed the collapsing cages and all the other necessities and off we went! We had an African Grey, a Moluccan Cockatoo & a Blue Headed Pionus. They don’t have the size of a macaw or the volume, thank goodness!! The more you take them with you, the more relaxed both the bird(s) & human become! It helps to stimulate their brain and helps them to accept change; especially the Grey. They were not free flighted as this was not the norm in the 80’s-90’s. Of the 3, the Grey at 28yrs is the only bird still alive but we remember those years with fond memories.
Thanks for sharing Mikey & Mia with us❣️
Thanks for your story. I hope you will be inspired to do more to end parrot suffering by checking out Animal Defenders International. They found a suffering Military Macaw(Ara Militaris) and actually got him back to the wild! They’ve done this for many other wild animals as well.
Mia has really come a long way. I remember when she didn't like you at all and now she gives you kisses. 💙💛
I was watching "Don't buy a Macaw...unless" and this video got uploaded LOL
Haha
Thanks for sharing.. Have missed seeing them 😊. Holiday with 2 macaws is way more work than you made it seem 😁

Haha great.
Respect to that gorgeous hotel. Awesome guys! 🙏
What a beautifully shot & edited vlogg!! Looked like Mommy & Daddy humans almost had as much fun as Mikey & Mia. The intro was hilarious. I was pleasantly surprised to see Mikey Bustos !! 😜💞
Haha thanks.
It's always a joy to see your videos and who can say "no" to both Mikey and Mia.
Love this love how free they are when they are around you both. 🥰 It would have been a funny awkward time trying to get hotels that cater for macaws 🥺😂 that last part ‘whats macaws.? some sort of dogs 😂
You guys do what my fiancé and I do, bring them on vacation. Casper, our bare eyed cockatoo, and Sunshine, our white belly caique, absolutely love when we take them on trips. Growing up as the oldest of four has taught me the importance of the toddler bag. I wish we could free fly them, but Casper is a bit too curious and Sunshine has no interest in flying. Sunshine if he can’t to a place he wants to go he will hold out his foot to tell you to pick him up. If you don’t pick him up he will make sure you know he wants you to come get him.
Lovely video, I just went on holiday yesterday with my bird.
Amazing video and you’re wonderful pet owners…the BEST!!
Beautiful video guys - such great videography too. Lucky birdies!

"Hello, Let's Fly!" Just a thought. Cheers
Beautiful scenery, beautiful birds, beautiful people, beautiful vid, beautiful whisky 😉
BTW: I know really good how that damn back can cross your plans. Right now I should be together with my friends on a pool party, but I'm sitting at home with my good ole friend Mr. Painreliever 😖 (…and luckily with some real good vids 👍)
Haha, can’t wait to hang in like a month.
You guys are so lucky you found a pet friendly hotel❤️❤️

I hope you will look up videos of Macaws being released to the wild instead. I hope more parrot lovers are inspired by my comments to help keep them in the wild.
You guys, I'm so glad you continue to make videos amd share Mikey and Mia's life with us. Some of us would love having a parrot and due to life, can't at the moment and it's so nice to even be part of your stories like this. Hope daddy human gets well soon - as a non Brit I have no idea what popping out your back means, it sounds pretty pretty bad!
Thank you. Yes it’s much easier watching them over having them haha

Would make my holiday if I so happened to be staying there at the same time as you guys, sorry to hear Daddy human hurt his back, hope it heals promptly.
i lost my bird on 10th july he was suffering from a disease i also used to train him like that i see my bird in yours ty for creating videos your birds are so cute.He also used to kiss me.
Sorry to hear this.
I am so impressed that you one found a hotel that would take all of you and that you were able to go into that pub and stay there with them.
I took my green wing into the liquor/ wine store around the corner from my house because I was out on a walk with her anyway. everyone in there loved her ( or so I thought) and then the next time I went to pick something up I saw next to the 'no dogs', 'no cats' signs a suspiciously familiar picture of a very large macaw with a big x through it 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Another unfortunate example of a life of a captive Macaw! I commend the staff of that store you went to, they must care about animals. I hope you are setting up a trust fund for your bird so he or she ends up in responsible hands. This Macaw May likely outlive you. Research has shown that pet parrots only stay with one owner for a few years before they’re gotten rid of. And you should see the places many of these animals end up! And to think your bird could live well over 50 years!
@@kellytansy6850 well we have been together for 17 years and counting. I am assuming she will outlive me, so I definitely have a trust set up as well as a potential 'new home' ( my best friend's daughter might fall in love with her - too early to tell). Some retirement homes near where I live have an 'in house parrot' so we might end up several decades down the road in a home together.
I do appreciate your concern about the often unhappy lives of companion parrots (Lulu was captive bred & has a disability which would have killed her in the wild....she cannot fly properly).
I knew I wanted a macaw from the age of 3 on and I spent years saving and researching the best match for my life and personality. She is never left alone (I have other animals) and I don't work regular hrs. My family has a place in the country where she can be out with us in the sun. She boards with her vet & enjoys it (like camp). She is a very happy , healthy, active much beloved family member. Commiting to a parrot is like having a baby, there r no takebacks or at least for me I would find it morally repugnant.
Thanks for your reply. If you really have all those plans in place, you are one of the very few. The research shows that. I sincerely hope that you will look at some excellent websites such as www. Pawsweb.org and Animal Defenders International. If you run into difficulty, there may be a good sanctuary they can recommend should that be your best option for your precious bird. And if you have a trust fund you can give them, that will also help enormously. The majority of wild animals surrendered by their owners are only supported by their members. The owners themselves rarely help at all towards their care, just like at cat and dog shelters. If I can be of any more help, please contact me.
@@kellytansy6850 I really appreciate the offer and may well take you up on it. When I purchased her, I was told her cousins had gone to the zoo, so I felt I was assured a place there (best you could hope for! she would get a partner be able to have a family of her own have perfect care lots of space human interaction, all the things she really thrives on and lifeline commitment) but twas not the case. Then I got excited by 'Bird world' the world's largest open aviary I was told that they did take in birds who were then given to handlers who often took them home at night and should anything happen to the Avery they would be placed in permanent open exhibit free flight arrangements and or would live out the rest of their life with their keeper and trainer with the commitment that if that person couldn't take care of them they would be re-released back into the aviary. when I followed through on this a year later it was not the case. So it's scary because I always wanted a family of my own I'm 42 , single , childless now & it didn't happen & it's incredibly difficult to live through & terrifying when it comes to Lulu (I have left my jewelry collection to her which while nothing terribly grand if sold at the proper time could definitely turn a handsome profit & care for medical and other expenses for some time). It is always terrifying to any companion bird owner to know that it is not the people that you leave your beloved 'child' too it is the people that they give your 'child' to after you are gone that you don't know, don't trust, Have not vetted & don't have the same commitment & ultimately dump them. The friend that I mentioned who might be a good fit with her daughter has spent (as I have) over $16,000 on a fairly hopeless case. in my case it was my 2-year-old cat and I paid the money to extend his life for 6 months with an untreatable disease - it was worth every penny and not the first time I have done that. for my friend it was an operation on her dog that would most likely leave her dog paralyzed from the waist down with little hope of recovery meaning she would be in charge of releasing her bowels and urine multiple times a day - which she did. We have both had a wide variety of animals in our lives many of whom have been secondhand cast-offs from other people and not once have either one of us ever surrendered an animal. I board her at the vet (exotic specialist, 2nd generation) because she's very good natured and it's a really good way to get her adapted to different people and different surroundings (I have heard absolute horror stories of people with more emotionally sensitive birds like African gray who had never been away from the family and had the vet come to them and then when the entire family went on vacation he was left in the hands of a very responsible other friend & parrot owner but the bird thought his family had abandoned him and committed suicide). This way established some familiarity, and independence but also she really enjoys being with others speaking birds and it's healthy for her to be able to be away from me and she is never resentful or jealous or angry when I come home to get her she's always overjoyed to see me. There are people who do wonderful free flights which I love and we both love to watch together but she will never be able to do that we work on exercises and physiotherapy at home in the house although admittedly I have tried outdoors and after some success have wound up calling the fire department who have been delightful and very helpful. I know all too well of the fate of many parrots who wind up in homes that they are then basically adopted out to other families who also don't do the research and then go through multiple homes which is a disaster for any sensitive intelligent living creature. In life to a certain extent particularly with our companion animals and or our children we get what we get and you have to make the best you can of it and that's all anyone can do.
Thank you again and I will look up those resources (you can never have too many and even more depressingly sometimes the people that you love and Trust right now or even for several decades are still not the people that you would leave the most important person in your life to).🤗
I hope you yourself have had some good experiences with companion parrots & or their keepers - we are not all selfish , evil people doing it for glamour & prestige, about to change on a whim.. ❤️
I wanted to be a vet to all my life more than anything but couldn't hack the math & science ☹️ so I compensate with a small menagerie.
Ps: she is turning 18 in a couple of months 🎉🌟
Another sanctuary possibility is Jungle Friends in Florida, USA that maintains a strict policy for their rescues, but they are at capacity most likely. They take in mostly capuchin monkeys, almost all ex- pets. The exotic pet trade does a staggering amount of damage and I particularly sympathize with parrots because they live so long and there’s so many that are suffering. I appreciate your conscientiousness and hope you will continue to research should your bird need placement.
I’m sorry Daddy Human's back went out! A swim and a sauna would have been just the thing for it, too. Hope he’s healing and out of pain. I guess Mommy Human had to wrangle that cage and all the luggage the next day. Get better! ❤️🩹
Do you have insurance for the birds in case they damage anything when you're staying in hotels? Macaws are so smart and I wondered if they got out of their travel cage and damaged the room it could cost alot of money with the size of their beaks?
Haha we don’t, we just don’t let them out of our sight usually in indoors situations like this
