Hey guys. Really appreciate all the support and love. Mikey has now made a full recovery! To answer the most common question here “Why didn’t you take him straight to the vet” - The moment we had him in the car we called every vet in all of london as our local avian vet was closed. Every vet we called weren’t avian specialists and didn’t have a clue what to do with birds or have the equipment to deal with him or had very little to no experience with birds. We went home to keep looking as it seemed better than sitting in the car. It wasn’t until we got home that we were recommended by a free flight friend of ours about the 24/7 emergency avian vet in Swindon and went straight there. The only reason we put him on the floor was because it would’ve been stupid to put him on a perch and we had to take him out of the carrier to get him in the house as the carrier has to be folded down to be removed from the car. We are so grateful on the amazing recovery he made so stay tuned for more happy fly vlogs. Watch him back in the skies here - ruclips.net/video/c2nZbiVqZMo/видео.html Love xx
@@holyscience3763 Not necessarily - it is just a gash, no tendons where bisected or anything major damaged. I would have just cleaned it, taped it shut and let it heal (been here, done that). (Also: parrots will spot and take out your stiches faster that you can put them in... changing bandages/ renew tape is way easier)
Boi Retardus honestly, macaw could have easily snapped his pinky right off. It says something to the fact he likely remembered him in some part that he only did that.
@@JacintaSeabrook very true! in spite of being severely traumatized & injured he definitely display restraint in damage he couldve easily did. My M.Too is same way tho she is not as big
@@MikeyTheMacaw I know youre right! The bond, the love you 2 have overcame the worst of it . We know! We are happy you 2 recovered well! I knew you would! Hugs from us :)
Please stop apologizing for loving your beautiful birds confusion & yours as well. I'm sure you will never know how many of us are crying with you & Mikey. I'm so glad he's better. There's no way to prevent all accidents & obviously wind was a great confusing factor. All the best to all of you.
In aviation this is called a whiteout. It happens a lot. He'll remember this bad experience forever, don't worry. Learn from it. No i think he totally knew who you were...he either was blind sided or got distracted...he was just really pissed off in the aftermath. Poor boyo. “Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.” Bless you Mikey. Love ya.
Theres a disturbing amount of pet owners who try to disguise and hide any unfortunate events to try and keep up a perfect and beautiful facade of exotic animal keeping for cloat. You're incredible in my opinion for sharing this. These things happen unfortunately, thank you for not hiding it.
♆ Satan ♆ yeah! It's great for homeowners who may have experienced something similar and not having known what to do. We all make mistakes and owning up to them and learning from them is the best we can do. I'm glad the lil' fella is doing better.
Right, like I have a rescue dog and when I got her she was bald from fleas and mange and just neglect, and she still occasionally randomly starts to chew sores on herself very quickly before I even have a chance to throw the cone on her, it’s just habit from all those years when she just spent all her time chewing on herself, absolutely nothing is it itching on her, and I don’t hide it bc I don’t want other people i know to think they’re doing something wrong if they have a rescue pet that still has bad habits.
Thanks so much for this comment. It’s one of the reasons we shared it. We know there is a crazy amount of people with an online presence who always just show the good. It’s really never how it seems.
His cries were so... eerily human. The only other time I’ve heard such pain from a living thing was a teacher coming out of a tornado shelter and reacting to the building being destroyed. Absolutely devastating. I’m so glad he’s doing better.
Funny side story on this but hopefully a mood lifter: I used to work front desk at a circus school where this one student would always leave her dog in the lobby with me during her weekly class. Every single week, 5-10 minutes before her 2 hour class would get out this dog would start to whine/cry, he sounded exactly like a grieving human being, every person in the lobby would try to console him but he just didn't care. But that sadness would always be immediately counteracted as soon as she got out of class by the dog literally jumping for joy. Like, a teeny tiny dog bouncing 3-4 feet into the air repeatedly. This dog was just very intensely emotional and extremely bonded to it's owner, he would look like the sadest most dejected animal in the world any time she left the room, but in her presence he was just immediately full of joy. She jokingly called herself his "emotional support human".
The most human thing from an animal I have heard is after my dog had been operated after accidently swallowing an entire pigeon skull. My mother had gone to work and I was in bed and I was woken up. What could only be described as a sound that sounded like the most devestasted human ghost ever. Turned out it was the dog. Luckily he calmed down when I went to him.
Lowly Worm they really were. It was so horrible to hear this without being able to help. He is now flying around the house, happy as ever, back to his usual cheeky self. We are very grateful.
Poor Mikey. I'll bet he was concussed. HUGE headache, mental confusion, balance issues (walking weirdly) and I'll bet he was not eating well (nausea). All concussion signs. (My son is exceptionally good at getting concussions.)
My grandmother actually just suffered a traumatic brain injury recently. When ambulance was called, she became incredibly combative, screaming, thrashing about, semi violent. It was quite troubling. It seems birds experience a similar thing.
We all do actually, depends on the region of the injury, basically just our prefrontal cortex evolved recently, which is the part in charge of thinking, logic, and reasoning. without it, we're pretty much a full on beast. Just watched recently a video by a youtuber named bigclivedotcom and he talks about his mother having alzheimer's and how she basically "reverted back" over time to pure human beast instincts, pretty sad stuff.
@@landonr.5841 We humans are animals after all ... we need to get over ourselves as so very special, above all the rest, for we really are not. All species of animals are unique and precious ❤
I’ve never seen a bird cry and act like that. I genuinely teared up. It was heartbreaking. I can’t imagine how much pain he was in. I’m so glad he has recovered.
It was a horrible day. We have never heard those sounds either. He has made an amazing recovery and he is back in the skies being his normal cheeky happy self.
He was screaming. That was sheer terror and pain. I never want to see that happen to an animal again. It shook me up so bad I ended up crying. I couldn't even listen to or watch him after you got him home. I'm so glad he's okay now. (Animals suffering is probably my number one weakness. I fall apart.)
The poor thing.. he sounded so scared and distressed, I’ve never owned birds but I own two cats and so I can understand the fear and anxiety of watching what is basically your child get hurt or end up disoriented and freak out due the sheer fear and their natural defence. But I am so glad he’s recovered well! You truly are amazing owners
@@MikeyTheMacaw animals with concussions usually react pretty crazily especially really tame ones. Most will become quite aggressive and a bit unpredictable especially with the pain.
No bird owner ever shows a bird bite-which glosses over the danger in having one. I appreciate the honesty of this video, though saddened by the tragedy.
Yeah, but bites like that are incredibly rare. Most people don't get bit like that. They CAN seriously injure you, but they know not to. Otherwise they'd be severely maiming each other in the wild on a regular basis.
@@Dubanx I 100% agree! Actually this situation is really similar to when my uncle was bit really badly by his dog who had gotten off her leash and sprinted into traffic and was hit by a car. When he ran after her and she was in shock, she bit him very badly. She was a black lab, not some "vicious pit bull man eater" (even though I don't believe that stuff personally, but if you want to assume it was probably a breed with a bad reputation, it wasn't) Animal instincts are just that, instincts. Not something they would do under normal circumstances. (Full disclosure the dog made a full recovery as well) But yea, my point is, any animal, or pet, is capable of this type of bite when confused or scared and feeling they need to fight for their life.
@@scarlson325 even people! even perfectly rational people can be dangerous when they're drowning or panicking. Think about people who get killing in fires because they were trampled to death by the people behind them.
When the clip played of him screaming out in distress I looked over at my parrot and cried just thinking about it. Can't even fathom what you must have gone through. Happy to hear he made a full recovery.
Even though I don't even have a parrot, I almost cried thinking about an animal you love so much in that much pain. If my cat ever had to go through something like that, I would probably be half broken
With Mia, this shows how smart and caring Macaw's are tords each other. Mia knew Mikey was hurting and not him self, and she did her best to make him comfortable.
The clip with him freaking out, my bird suffers from sever anxiety. It was simply a panic attack! I completely understand the panic you had. I’m so glad he’s okay now!
Yes I agree. Whenever I have full on panic attacks, that's exactly how I become. As soon as I heard his screams and observed his body, I recognized it as the symptoms of a panic attack. The poor little guy had just gone through something traumatic, it's only natural and normal for him to have an attack. The best thing to do is either hold him or leave him alone in a safe area where he can't hurt himself. Obviously holding him didn't work, so leaving him alone would've been best.
It’s crazy how he practically forgot everything in a matter of seconds thanks to an awful brain injury. He really did look like a bird captured straight from the wild. I’m so glad he fully recovered.
My free flighted macaw had a similar incident he did recover but a few weeks later he started plucking (because of trauma)of his wing feathers Be careful don't let him do that make his recovery not a negative thing hope he recovers fully and starts flying again
Awesome Dude oh no, so sorry to hear this. Mikey is seeming right back to his normal self now, flying around the house, being his normal cheeky self, will monitor him a bit longer before going back out.
Just finding your channel, but I’m so glad Mikey recovered from this. You take amazing care of your birds, the fact they come back to you after free flight proves that
Severe concussion, and a Schirmer tear test (STT) and the phenol red thread test (PRTT) next time stop the vet and make sure he explains clearly to you. It can take 1 month for a concussion to heal, and can have permanent behavior issues. Pain meds for the 1 month. I would advise not let that bird free fly for 2 months , that being said he needs rehab 30 days of rest and re bonding. Then you can start to retrain him to free fly is important to help him re- establish and confirm the behaviors associated especially the reinforcement used. He will need to confirm his own trust and yours for a complete recovery . The initial protocol for a injured bird is a dark warm safe spot. Keep a close check on his vision a torn retina can be life time issue and take 2 to 6 weeks to heal no head jerking motions.. This just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt . It is so painful to see family get severely hurt.... Never assume the bird knows what you think he has mastered step by step. So Glad he survive an incredible impact very lucky and I wish you both the very best of rehab. Thanks for such great videos.
bird5713 thanks so much for this amazing comment. Will check this with the vet in our next visit. It’s been 16 days since and he is flying around the room, recalling fine, and back to being his usual cheeky self, he is gagging for a fly, keeps staring out the window flapping, will only take him out when we know he is 100% ready. Thanks again.
Mikey The Macaw & Friends It’s just one of the risks of not clipping their wings. At least he went in flight and didn’t spend his final moments grounded. Thank you for taking the risk and giving yours the happiness of flying instead of grounding him. They might have accidents like this, but at least they are happy.
Curiously Tot People think it’s cruel but this is a serious risk people take by not clipping domesticated birds. You cannot reintroduce then back into the wild. At least keep them as safe as possible.
This made me cry. I’d wager he had a major concussion. They are NOT fun. All sorts of scary feelings sensations and pain. In the beginning, it looks like seizure activity. Him just sitting still for days after tells me concussion too. I thank you for showing us the difficult moments. It’s important.
@Desiree Bernert Excuse me but I can damn well put you into this "lil cubbie" because you are exactly the kind of person I strongly abhor. Clipping a birds wings because of an accident. What was your point telling me about your bird I by the way very much feel empathy for? This poor thing getting its wings clipped like so many other birds that should be free flight trained instead of lazily taken away their ability that they are living for. It's just fucking sad having a bird for so long without being capable of properly training it so it will a hundred percent not fly away. Sexual maturity doesn't have anything to do with this but you will not understand. People like you shouldn't have birds as you clearly are not capable of giving it what it deserves. All this I can confidently take out of your stupid statements you are making. And don't you even dare estimating my age when you clearly have a terrible way of expressing. I can hardly understand what you even mean. Get rid of those stupid dots you are making everywhere and start making grammatically correct sentences if you don't want to seem like a 10 year old.
@@j.7658 Agreed. My budgies fly around my house and get stuck in some areas but they seem just fine and happy afterwards... Just because life wants to hate u and causes an accident to your bird doesn't mean you have to cripple them from their way of life... The only reason my lady budgie's wings are clipped now because i bought her and her wings were already like that...
@@j.7658 Owning a bird is cruel. These animals are meant to fly free and they can't do that around a cramped house with the occasional fly outside. You're being a hypocrite. Just because your bird is slightly more free doesn't mean that your poor, imprisoned "pet" is free.
My bird, who was sitting on his perch, heard mikey screaming and began to look around thinking there was another bird in the house in danger. (He's a sweetheart so he's always wanting to protect something or someone.) I'm glad mikey is feeling better.
Poor guy, he did so well with the trauma considering how easily birdos can pass from stress It would be so much harder to watch this if we didn't know Mikey was okay
I am glad he's ok and the fact that he had no broken bones or anything was amazing, I'd just say there was definitely a higher Power watching over your bird that day and I really pray nothing like that ever happens again!
This almost made me cry and it was so terrible watching him go through that and i cant even imagine how you felt quick recovery for all of you and lots of love
His screaming and behavior after the injury was like watching a chick screaming for it's mother. I honestly felt like I was watching a human infant in pain and I'm so grateful for you showing this. It's a beautiful reference for bird care and understanding of how they respond to head trauma and recovery. 👏🏾💖
It looked a lot like my Grey's seizure. Unfortunately he did not make it. It's so heartbreaking to watch your bird in so much pain.. I'm go glad Mikey is okay 💕
@@mirandareallon1691 Bird seizures involve a lot of involuntary flapping and rolling. Are you sure yours had a seizure? This looked nothing like the parrot seizures I’ve seen.
When humans get a concussion, least my experience having one, the head pain is like no other, it is unrelenting and it takes months and months for mine to resolve. I am so sorry he experienced all this.
The clip at 8:53 reminds me of the time I had a mental breakdown and all I could do was stand in my living room, screaming. Injuries that severe are traumatizing for a human, let alone a bird. I'm so glad Mikey's recovered and taken back to the skies.
I actually thought “how bad could it be?” That clip is absolutely heartbreaking to watch! I’m sure he thought even if the bird wasn’t lost his mind was! Glad the little guy pulled through!
When I was about 8 or 9 I ran into a balcony (it was like 5ft above ground level, I'm 5'3 and has always been), it was insane. I lost consciousness but apparently I screamed for a good 10 minutes - not even recognising my own screams. I just heard my nose crack against my skull and a hard thud when I hit the ground. I thought I was dead. I wasn't myself for weeks (whilst it's clearly child neglect, my father never took me to a hospital), I was on the couch bleeding murder and talking nonsense for a month. I can't imagine what it is to a sane parent, no matter what species of the "child", to see them in so much pain. I'm glad he's recovering and I hope your finger is healing fine! ♡

So sorry this happened to you. My cat who is a house cat did something similar. She got excited and ran head first into our sliding glass door. She knocked herself out. When she came around, she was very quiet. I took her to my vet who told me she had given herself a concussion. She did recover. My take from this is, stuff happens. No matter how cautious we are things can happen. Don’t beat yourself up. You are fantastic owners.❤️
My cat jumped off the top of her cat tree and landed a little funny and ended up hitting part of her head on the wood floor. She didn't knock herself out, but she began walking very unsteady and stumbling around. She cried with pain and I picked her up and held her on my shoulder for about 30 m minutes. She was quiet and subdued for hours after this and was latched to me the entire time. After several more hours of tlc she came around and was back to her normal self. It was so scary to see this happen.
This video made me feel pain and sad at the same time the way how he screams he was scared and helpless. It wasn’t you guys fault or Mikey he just lost memory for a day or an hour I don’t know but I’m glad he remembers and still loves you guys. Keep up a great video in a future!
In general lifesaving training, if you have extreme violent behavior, You assume first that there is a head or brain trauma. More often it is temporary, but can be permanent. This seems to fall right in line with that.
Oh my god. prayers winging their way to you from Philadelphia...I cant imagine watching Mikey go through that and not knowing what the next hours would bring...big big big hugs to all of you xoxox
Yeah it looks to me like he had a severe case of concussion and in shock. I’ve personally lost count of the times I’ve been concussed, and I can honestly say that for a human, with a minor concussion, it generally takes about 2 weeks to start feeling better in the head, but it still takes over a month before you start to feel normal again. He also would’ve been in a lot of pain and tremendous shock, so his reaction isn’t that much of a surprise. Not a good reaction to go through, but not surprising either. When you have concussion, you don’t feel fully balanced and you certainly don’t want anyone or anything to touch you. But once the pain starts to heal, you do start feeling sorry for yourself and do get a bit sooky. I could imagine that for a bird, it wouldn’t be that much different. Hence why he is cuddling up to you now. He’s healing but still wouldn’t be feeling 100% in the head right now. I bet that within a month, he’ll be a little bit closer to being his normal self, but won’t forget it in a hurry. He’ll always be a little bit more cautious now.
I know you HAD to be crying those first few hours afterward. That was heartbreaking. Thank you for sharing your unfortunate event. I am glad he wound up okay.
WoRz Hazard Lol I think it’s because he said it’s still in a lot of pain, implying it’s probably pretty painful but on the mend (He tells us at the end of the video with pictures). I think the bird’s trauma was more severe.
Oh man, so good to hear that he got better! This was the first time ever I was happy about my cockatiels screaming, when you told that Mikey didn't even scream at the pigeons. Take care Mikey!

I'm an RN and that clip of Mikey after the accident made me think of people who've had a serious concussion. They can be confused and irritable, sometimes combative. His balance was definitely off. I don't have any birds but watching him cry and shake broke my heart. I'm so very glad he made a full recovery and hope he's once again taken to the skies.
Was the screaming a combination of pain, delusion and shock? I’ve never seen an animal look like it’s having an anxiety attack like this. Glad to see he’s doing better.

Thank you so much for sharing. That’s something I really appreciate about you guys, you show the good and the bad. I’m glad both you and Mickey are doing better. I also ended up in the ER because of my cat. After going on a hike I realized my kitties were covered in ticks. I washed Zorro first because he’s easier and then proceeded to bathe Momo, unfortunately I pushed his comfort limit too far. He got scared and pierced his fang through my skin. There’s a 50% chance of a cat bite getting infected and I wanted to wait to see my regular doctor but my family was concerned because my hand was swelling up. After waiting 4 hours in the ER they gave me IV antibiotics and then oral antibiotics to take home. I’ve been too worried to talk about it on their Instagram because I don’t want people to think I mishandled him or that he’s a “bad cat” but you’ve motivated me to share this story. Thanks!
I feel that he misjudged his lift. I think his intention was to pitch up on the roof as normal, but with the wind at his back he misjudged his lift for his landing. When I was in high school, I was out on our back porch. A storm was coming in and a sudden powerful gust of wind came up. It slammed a beautiful golden bat against the brick wall of the house. I thought it was dead at first, but I realized it was breathing. I took it in the house until it finally recovered and started flying around in the house. At that point I took it out and released it. The point being, even expert fliers can be caught off guard by sudden strong changes in air currents or wind. Poor guy, I'm glad he's making steady improvements. Take care of that finger. It looks like it could have had a stitch or two. One more thing, I strongly believe in free flying your birds when you can as you were doing. There are inherent risks in that of course. Accidents from wind, wires, fences, traffic, and birds of prey. However, I strongly believe in a concept that is called "the dignity of risk." This concept was a very important part of the work I used to do with people with developmental disabilities. The natural tendency was to over protect these individuals and not give them the opportunity to take some reasonable risks. Nobody should live like that. Everyone and every living thing deserves to be allowed the dignity to take reasonable risks to allow for the most fulfilling life. So, try to eliminate as many dangerous variables as possible and fly on.
To show this to thousands of people will take alot of guts but I'm happy hes ok and your aid you gave definitely saved his life. This is a mistake and mistakes always happen and can always be forgived, just this video and your love for birds I have become a big fan of you!!!

snow demon it’s a terrible thing when a bird flys outside, I personally never have cut my conures feathers and never will get them cut, I enjoy that he can fly about and feel free and I make sure all doors/windows are closed whilst he is out. I imagine it’s easier to keep your bird out with them being unable to fly, I just could never bring myself to take it way from them
@@dad3457 well its how you take care of your bird and this is how I'm going to take care of mine we just have different ways of view how we take care of our pets if we could both just accept that it would be cool
I can relate to the fear and pain of a pet being confused and terrified and not being able to help them. My beagle Dixie started having seizures due to old age and the first time she had one all I could do was sit there and watch while she convulsed and struggled to breathe. After she came out of it all she could do was lay there with a terrified look in her eyes and scream. It was like she couldn’t see me. It was the most terrible, heartbreaking sound I have ever heard in my life. Thankfully we were able to take her to the vet the next day and got her some meds that stopped the seizures from happening. She passed away about six months later (she was 13 and had other complications from old age). I hope I will never have to hear a sound like that again and wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
I know how it feels, a couple weeks ago, my conure got his head stuck in a chain, and was literally choking to death. I was able to free him in time but he had passed out right away after. He the proceeded to act like Mikey did and paranormal activity as well. I am glad to hear mikey is better and I hope you and your family, friends, and Mia are ok!
Be careful, studies show too many concussions seem to cause early on-set dementia, people who play sports in particular need to protect their heads as best as they can!!
Yes it definitely sounds like concussion and the pressure from the bleeding behind the brain was probably painful to. I hope that since this is an old video that Mikey has recovered fully now at least now we can understand why wild birds that fly into windows die now its probably from fright and pain.
Thank you for sharing this. I know how stressful it is trying to find an emergency avian vet (any really on weekends) and am so glad you found one! Life happens, so much more so when the regular vet is closed! I inherited my blue and gold when my father passed (she chose me long ago) and in her mid 20's laid her first egg (all your fault for showing me how to make an excellent chop) but she hemorrhaged (due to atrophy) on a Saturday (our nearest avian vets are 100 miles away). She too made a full recovery and has now laid 10 eggs this year (no mate) so we are opting to get her a treatment to stop her broodiness when our vet gets back from major shoulder reconstruction in November (he's been out since August) so for all the haters who say "why didn't you go straight to the vet" they have no idea how terrifying it is to have an avian emergency and call over 50 vets in four hours and get NOT ONE who will see a large bird (or any bird). I am as bonded to Sofia as she is to me, I was hysterical that day thinking I was watching her die but when I finally found and spoke to the vet we are waiting to finally meet in person, (he was awesome) told me what to do, what to watch for and what to expect, but the best part that took time to sink in was him asking what I was feeding her (so he could advise his other clients) and said "the good nutrition that caused her to lay the egg, was what was going to see her through this", and it did. I suspect that is also what helped Mikey through his ordeal, so keep up the good work!
LOL afaik nobody eved died from anxiety ;) I do not think it is even possible, but I totally get what you mean. Like the humans showed here: it was all about staying calm and help the bird and he only keeled over after he knew Mikey was fine. Good man!
When the clip played where he was in the crate screaming and cowering it made ME panic FOR him. Not for his safety, but just because his distress was so strong. Thinking of hearing my parrot in such distress and pain, thinking of how you must have felt while I was simultaneously hyperventilating and shaking over a clip of a bird that wasn’t even mine in such distress is heartbreaking. You’re so strong. Good on you for taking such good care of him. You’re an AMAZING parront.
Yea we did, well we called every vet in london, no one could care for birds so it wasn’t until we got home we were recommended the avian vet just out of the city.
So glad to see Mikey feeling better! My hooman was watching the vid and when I heard Mikey in the crate I was very upset for him. Sending healing thoughts and love from the entire flock. 💜💜
I know this is just a memory at this point but here I am two years later just seeing this for the first time. Choked me up quite a bit. You guys are full of love for these birds and it was heartbreaking to see. It's a lot of comfort knowing I'm watching this so far in the future that he is no longer in that painful situation. Thank you for sharing this with me.
I’m so happy Mikey’s doing so much better. Concussions can take a long time to get past and they are very scary to watch an animal or person going through. Headaches, dizziness, memory loss etc. Yes we do care about your finger. You should have gone for stitches. Cheers from Canader eh!
Thank you for sharing this. It’s good for people to realize that animals do experience pain and trauma. Poor Mikey. I am so glad he’s better and has such loving caretakers. Hopefully he won’t have nightmares about hitting the window. 🥲
This happened to my parakeet, Tiki my door was open she knows where everything is in the house she knows where a cage is too. So anyways I was in the kitchen and I look over and my sister is yelling "WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOUR BIRD" over and over and he is on the floor with his wings spread out (not broken) so I managed to pick him up and he was trying to get away from me so I put his on my other birds cage (it has a perch on it) and he kept wobbling around and could barley stand up straight or fly couple hours later of chilling out he was flying but not eating or making noises but luckily a day later he was eating drinking flying and talking good! (we thought one of our small dogs smacked him a few times but now he is better than ever)
Actually my bird is in a separate room and the dog was is the other room and my bird came out of my room and my dog saw the bird and chased it and the bird it something fell to the floor and my dog attacked it
As emotionally hard it is to share experience with accidents it is good to do so that we can all learn together. It's so hard to see our birdy buddies hurting. Thank you though for being open about this experience.
Late reply, but yeah those absolutely looked like seizures, it’s dangerous to touch a pet having a seizure as they’ll bite down HARD usually for the entirety of the seizure, but it’s also important not to let them thrash around/bash their head or fall, so sometimes you have to risk getting bitten.
I would NEVER assume that you were in the wrong, he is a smart bird and y'all are very attentive avian keepers. I am just so glad to know he is okay. Much love, keep up the bird love! *Edit* the poor guy had a birdie concussion. As someone who has had several of their own (sports rated) it is a very disorienting experience and greatly changes your perception of the world. Just glad this beautiful specimen is healthy once more.

I’ve had all but a concession, that sounds horrible I can’t stand the thought bourse with that😰
No bird owner ever shows a bird bite-which glosses over the danger in having one.
She was a black lab, not some "vicious pit bull man eater" (even though I don't believe that stuff personally, but if you want to assume it was probably a breed with a bad reputation, it wasn't)
Animal instincts are just that, instincts. Not something they would do under normal circumstances. (Full disclosure the dog made a full recovery as well)
But yea, my point is, any animal, or pet, is capable of this type of bite when confused or scared and feeling they need to fight for their life.

Macaws can have panic attacks? Alright. I know now.
He’s now made a full recovery and is back in the skies.
My also has sever anxiety
It's more like seizures tbh you should look into that
Yes I agree.
My free flighted macaw had a similar incident he did recover but a few weeks later he started plucking (because of trauma)of his wing feathers

Thank you. This definitely could be it. He’s now made a full recovery and is back in the skies being his usual cheeky self.
Yeaaaahhh....Im not reading this
@@r.bllbas did you finish school or what?
I know you HAD to be crying those first few hours afterward. That was heartbreaking. Thank you for sharing your unfortunate event. I am glad he wound up okay.
This has me in tears 😭. However, knowing and seeing him (in video) on the mend helps brings so much joy.
Yes he is doing even better now. Flying around the room, nearly back to normal.
glad to hear he's better now!
Yes he’s so much better now.
@@MikeyTheMacaw How is your hand doing? why does no one ask about you and just the bird haha
WoRz Hazard Lol I think it’s because he said it’s still in a lot of pain, implying it’s probably pretty painful but on the mend (He tells us at the end of the video with pictures). I think the bird’s trauma was more severe.
It’s doing much better haha. Thanks.
oh poor baby, that footage was so hard to watch I was tearing up! I'm so happy he's much better now, I hope your recovery is speedy, mikey!!
Yes it wasn’t an easy day at all. He is making an amazing recovery though and will be back to his cheeky self in no time.
Oh man, so good to hear that he got better! This was the first time ever I was happy about my cockatiels screaming, when you told that Mikey didn't even scream at the pigeons. Take care Mikey!
The video shows distressed Mikey he was in shock
.. the sounds and look of him was like my CAG when she was with me IN A HOUSE FIRE. it took her 3hours to stop.
She KNEW we could die. Thats a "IM ABOUT TO BE DEAD" DANGER sound.... She yelled my name first thing after stopping the crys...
Poor mikey...
Hey, I have also had a house fire. It's horrible :(

I had 15 disabled rehabilitation birds , all permanent residents here, most died... All parrots but this very disabled one CAG who survived after being in my arms while trying to get out , died. Had lost a cat and many pigeobs parrots and crows who couldn't get out as they are not caged and got panic, flew or ran all over the place. I caught 4 in my arms, and tried to shoooo shooo away out the back window all others... Only 6 survived.... I almost died being a wheelchair user, got burnt and inhaled smoke, my house was burnt to the ground... Vety very scary and terrible experience like a horror movie. Someone start it while i was asleep inside....

Omg ,this is just a horrible thing to witness 😢😢
It really was. He’s basically back to his normal cheeky self now
I'm an RN and that clip of Mikey after the accident made me think of people who've had a serious concussion.
A close friend of mine experiences it all the time, her bird's previous owner used to abuse her and now she has random panic attacks and fits.
Thank you very much. It was a horrible time. He has now made a full recovery and is back to his usual cheeky self.
Oh my god, guys i'm so sorry this happened to Mikey and you ! I'm so happy he'll make a full recovery !
I totally understand why you kept this quiet, you did the right thing focusing on him, don't worry about us, they come first it's absolutly normal.
It was very sad watching him so lost... i can only imagine the headache and diziness after hitting something so fast.
It warmed my heart when Mia was preenning Mikey both perched on the door.
I hope you guys are feeling okay, sometimes accident happen for no reason.
❤❤
Thanks so much for the lovely message. Mikey is nearly back to his normal cheeky self and is even flying around the house now. He will be just fine.
When I heard what happened I thought, "ooo, that bird probably has a concussion." I'm glad there's no permanent brain damage.
Yes we are very lucky, he has now made a full recovery and is back to his usual cheeky self soaring the skies.
I'm so glad to hear he's doing better. Watching him in pain was so heartbreaking. Sending you much love. 💕
Thank god he didn't break his neck, I would've been freaking out, Mikey was extremely lucky please keep him safe!
Thank you. He’s now made a full recovery and is back in the skies being his usual cheeky self.
Thanks!
Oh wow, that sounds horrible. Hope you are ok now.
Mikey The Macaw & Friends I’m fine now, thanks for asking! I got bit by a cat again but it wasn’t by Momo or Zorro 🤣🤦🏻♀️
Thank you so much for this amazing comment. Really appreciate it. Mikey has made a full recovery and is back in the skies.
Mikey The Macaw & Friends That is fantastic news.
To show this to thousands of people will take alot of guts but I'm happy hes ok and your aid you gave definitely saved his life.
This is a mistake and mistakes always happen and can always be forgived, just this video and your love for birds I have become a big fan of you!!!
I am so glad everyone is okay. Broke my heart to see mikey this way. I can't believe you passed out on the vet's floor. It must have been the such a bad day. Your finger should have gotten stitches... goodness... This whole video shows alot about your character. Thank you for sharing it with us. Hope you and mikey heal fast, especially the emotional wounds that goes with it.
Thank you very much. It was a horrible time. He has now made a full recovery and is back to his usual cheeky self, yea I probably should’ve got stitches but the finger has healed up well.
Thanks for the comment.
Poor thing :( he looks like he is trying to defend himself from something that wasn't even there
Like there were ghost around him
And the screams he produced were really hard to listen to ;(
Yea totally. He’s now made a full recovery and is back in the skies being his usual cheeky self.
Omg! His screams made me cry 😭 he was in shock, watching Mikey like that is heartbreaking. I’d never clip a birds wings. They’re supposed to fly. Accidents happen.
my birds wings are clipped
snow demon Imagine someone cutting your feet off
she is a domestic bird I don't want her to fly everywhere she has a playstation I don't want her to fly outside my grandmas friend didn't clip her birds wings or didn't bother to put it back in her cage and she got outside and is probably dead
snow demon it’s a terrible thing when a bird flys outside, I personally never have cut my conures feathers and never will get them cut, I enjoy that he can fly about and feel free and I make sure all doors/windows are closed whilst he is out.
I hope I will never have to hear a sound like that again and wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
oh wow that broke my heart. I can't imagine how hard it was to hear him and see him like that. So happy he's better.
It was a horrible day. He’s made a full recovery and is back in the skies being his usual cheeky self.

From one who has had a few, he looks like he had a concussion. I was always very disoriented and defensive after a good whack on the noggin.
Yes it could’ve been the case. He has made a full recovery and is back in the skies.
Be careful, studies show too many concussions seem to cause early on-set dementia, people who play sports in particular need to protect their heads as best as they can!!
@@Sanakudou None of mone came from sports. One came from getting hit by a car, two from car accidents, and one from an assault.
Exactly what I thought! Looks like a concussion fs
I suspect that is also what helped Mikey through his ordeal, so keep up the good work!
if he isn't dead, then you won't be dead, "hit 40 mph by a huge piece of glass" i'd be dead LOL - more like his beak saved his ass
Yea it totally did. The way their necks move are much more flexible than ours too
@@MikeyTheMacaw its the shape of the beak that kills most birds during glass impacts... forces the head to snap downward sharply

I am so thankful he is recovering!! I can not imagine how terrified you both must have been. Blessings to Mikey and his wonderful parents.❤
When this happens, directly go to the Vet.More pain, bigger shock. He was so in pain, because the head trauma..You had big luck.Sorry for my English.
Yea we did, well we called every vet in london, no one could care for birds so it wasn’t until we got home we were recommended the avian vet just out of the city.

No judgment, man. I trust you love your boy enough to know when he's in trouble. I think its amazing that he had the chance to fly free.
Thank you for sharing this. It’s good for people to realize that animals do experience pain and trauma. Poor Mikey. I am so glad he’s better and has such loving caretakers. Hopefully he won’t have nightmares about hitting the window. 🥲
Concussion made me see the future, brain trauma is life and death together. I fell off my horse at a gallop free riding. She stayed with me!
Same except mine died
@@gmrsquad1386 yep it is usually cuz of a bleed in the brain/ concussion. So sorry for your loss🙏🙏
and this is why you shouldn’t dogs or cats near your birds
Actually my bird is in a separate room and the dog was is the other room and my bird came out of my room and my dog saw the bird and chased it and the bird it something fell to the floor and my dog attacked it
Close the door. This is how your bird will die, keep it away from any dogs
As emotionally hard it is to share experience with accidents it is good to do so that we can all learn together. It's so hard to see our birdy buddies hurting. Thank you though for being open about this experience.
Could he have been having a seizure? That's what it looked like at the beginning. Poor baby glad he recovered.
Maybe. He did make a full recovery and is back in the skies.
Syncope can cause acute seizures in people, especially from concussion, so id expect so.
That's not a seizure. Seizures are muscular contractions, not screaming and panicking.
