Kate H Awww thanks, bond has a lot to do with it but the amount of training we put in to make this happen was crazy haha. We actually made a video about it called “parrot journey to free flight” it was totally worth it.

It takes a lot of time and the birds need that. Thanks so much for sharing Mikey’s day with us. I don’t have a parrot but would love to. *If any of my info is incorrect or you have a different opinion then i'm free to criticism, seriously, I'm really no expert lol XD* If you really want a bird I would recommend getting a budgie. Getting a pair is better as they can get very lonely and would need a lot more attention, also, try getting two male budgies. Females will lay eggs during breeding season, fertilized or not (obviously you need a male budgie if the egg were to be fertilised) they will protect them. Try and get two of the same gender as getting a breeding pair (one boy and one girl) would most likely result in fertilised eggs. You can tell their gender by looking at their cere located above the beak (these are their nostrils). When they are very young it will be a pinky colour however as they grow older the colour will either become a darker and darker blue as they age (a male) or a darker brown as they age, not too dark though (a female). *SOME IMPORTANT INFO IF YOU ARE THINKING OF GETTING A BUDGIE/BUDGIES They are messy however they aren't as high maintenance as I first expected. Be sure to feed them seed mainly (millet, trill, budgie mix etc:) however also add in fruits and vegetables (mine LOVE broccoli. other ones that I have tried with them will some success include: carrot, grapes and rocket). Also, make sure to have a cuttlebone and some grit (they do eat the grit so don't be worried). I personally do use sandpaper however you can use things such as newspaper to lay at the bottom of their litter tray at the bottom of the cage. Mine don't really play with them much at all as they are out all day but have toys for them. I would highly recommend a swing or two, mine love the thing! And, I think you may already know this as you mentioned you wanted a parrot, but in regards to clipping their wings in my own opinion I wouldn't recommend it. We didn't and I'm so glad we didn't as they love to fly around the room. If you do decide to clip their wings then the benefits from what iv'e heard of doing so are: they become easier to tame and they are less likely to fly out of an open door and or window as they are unable to (I don't know if these are 100% credible so I would recommend doing your own research). However, please do not be alarmed as the feathers do grow back so if you decide after having their wings clipped that you do not want them clipped anymore then you can just let them grow back out. This comment is getting too long now so I hope this helped and if you have any questions that I didn't mention then please ask or research it (i'm not an expert, just have a little bit of first hand experience, emphasis on 'little' lol XD)

I am becoming a monstrous fan of you two and Mikey. I shared with you a few days ago, a bit about the sanctuary we run here in the States. I can tell you that I cried when I watched you take off running and then watched Mikey follow. While I know I can't have that for all of the birds here, I truly do hope the sanctuary's namesake, Miss Daisy, will one day flap her wings enough to even flutter to the ground. There will be many tears when that happens, because when she got here her wings didn't open. Years of doing exercises with her has her flapping the wings like mad, so we are hopeful. Thank you for more laughter, happiness and even more tears. Cheers!

What a silly beautiful boy! Your videos with Mikey always bring a smile and a laugh. It’s so great seeing a guy who is not afraid to show his tender side when it comes to animals. You’re a good soul mate. Mikey is lucky to have a daddy like you
Mikey The Macaw & Friends I can totally see that. My aunt and uncle had a cockatoo who was the COOLEST bird I’ve ever met. Never could get used to him doing love nibbles on my fingers though! 😂
HI. sir, how do you get over the fear that every time he Flys, that maybe one time he will get lost, or stolen, and never comes back. boy I was scared for you... great day out thank you
Layla uk Good question, so it took over 4 months of daily training before we let him free, he did so well at his local park so went there every morning and evening. After a few weeks we started looking at new locations and as long as he has around 15mins to check out the area, he’s comfortable. We are now very confident he will always come back, or stay in sight anyway so if anyone did try and take him we would be close by, and they would have to be pretty brave as they may get a serious bite too haha
Wow you two make a great team Mikey is one lucky bird 🦅 this is an indication of how you will treat your human children it is amazing to see the new generation of happy well balanced souls you were raised beautifully your parent must be so proud 🤗👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🦋🍀💐🌷🌹🥀🌺🌸🌼🌻
Honestly, I think you 3 are doing the "pet" thing right. When having a pet it should live WITH the human, not in the same house as the human. Just having something and sometimes watching it or, as some other youtubers do, hoarding animals, is not the way. Live, Love and most importantly have fun with your pets. They are already domesticated, there is no reason trying to "give them a home close to or like in nature or something like that". You"ll never reach nature. I love Mikey and I actually kinda love you two because you basically are 3, you are a team you do a great job and I love that fact that you don't have an animal, but a pet. You live withthat guy ^^
Birds are so much work! They live a long time (50+ years sometimes) and they only bond once. That means they need you around because you're their partner! This owner is taking great care of Mikey. You can see this bird is healthy and very very happy. Amazing owner. When birds are upset they pick their feathers out due to stress. Anyhow folks, birds are loving and cute but they are a huge commitment. Way bigger than a dog
You’re such a good and lovely person! As i saw how majestic, beautiful and friendly Mikey is and the connection between you three shows that you’ve put alot of training, love and caring in this friendship and i admire you for it. It is rare to see such person having such a strong bond with a macaw
what a sweet Macaw..you can tell just by looking at him just how healthy and happy he is. ive always wanted either a raven or a parrot of some kind (and as far as parrots goes, the blue and gold mecaw is very high on that list).... also, him playing with your glasses was amusing to watch.
Don't even attempt to free fly without months and months of very hard work training and research as to where to fly. Also reaserch wild birds so you know which can cause a problem and so you can recognise them. Bottom line.... Don't take it lightly. You can always train to go out on a harness if free flight is not best for your BIRD .x
Kaia Marino I took my two budgies outside to fly like like Mickey I was all yeah they were flying and flying and never came back Bobby and Whitney never came back I was so mad at this video
Keep there doors open they will eventually come out and will fly around the house thats what my budgie does but keep the curtains down or else they will hit the window he’s a 10/10 birb lol
I met only one macaw in my life: his name was Trouble, but I didn't know that at the time. I was in a pet store with a friend buying spider food, and in the center was an island with sand and a perch with this huge, gorgeous blue fella. He was talking to me, saying hello, reaching out to me, and asking if I "want some?". I thought he wanted to be friends, so I let him step up on me. He was nice at first, climbing up to my shoulder. Then he started biting my ear and collarbone. The owner had to come give him a peanut to get him off me, and it turns out this is his deal. He's Trouble, and he is an extortionist.
Oh I love your macaw it's so amazing the bond between a bird and it's owner . I had a Jenday conure for 14 years sadly I had a massive stroke and was hospitalized and he passed away while I was in the hospital so sad miss him so much free to fly like yours but never flew away from me ❤u miss pierre
I have a question have you looked into wetting leaves and letting him rub himself against them just for a more wild type of theme and if so has it worked at all for you and Mikey
This is one of the coolest Video's i have seen on RUclips i couldn't help but smile the whole time.. Such a Good pet Dad and Cool Bird Mikey is Amazing
Btw Mickey is in a hormonal stage were he rubs his butt on stuff and puts his head down with his butt up that happens to every parrot specially during the spring time witch is so close rn..what you should do is not cuddle your bird you can only touch Mickey from his head, and under his neck...or else you are sexually frustrating your macaw.
Lori Woloshyn Months and months of training. We made a video about it called “Parrot journey to freeflight” he knows we are his flock, he loves us, and sleeping in a cold tree getting rained on and getting attacked by crows is way less fun than coming home for food and cuddles haha
Daddy: What are you doing? Bird: I’m gonna show ur my butt Daddy: that fine Bird: *fart Daddy: ewwwww! Don’t do that again Bird: I can’t hold my fart 💨

What a silly beautiful boy! Your videos with Mikey always bring a smile and a laugh. It’s so great seeing a guy who is not afraid to show his tender side when it comes to animals. You’re a good soul mate. Mikey is lucky to have a daddy like you
Awww thanks so much. He brings so much joy to us.
Mikey The Macaw & Friends I can totally see that. My aunt and uncle had a cockatoo who was the COOLEST bird I’ve ever met. Never could get used to him doing love nibbles on my fingers though! 😂
when the bird eats healthier than you do
Featheredfooxx haha yup. He even eats healthier than us.
Ya so true
My friend got one too a few weeks ago. Now he has only 4 fingers on his left hand :P
Haha oh no
Oh dear 😂
Wait realy? Or are you just joking lol-
HI. sir, how do you get over the fear that every time he Flys, that maybe one time he will get lost, or stolen, and never comes back. boy I was scared for you... great day out thank you
Layla uk Good question, so it took over 4 months of daily training before we let him free, he did so well at his local park so went there every morning and evening. After a few weeks we started looking at new locations and as long as he has around 15mins to check out the area, he’s comfortable. We are now very confident he will always come back, or stay in sight anyway so if anyone did try and take him we would be close by, and they would have to be pretty brave as they may get a serious bite too haha
This is how you take good care of birds!! A lot of work but also a lot of fun. Congratulations for being such an incredible person
Rafaela Forgiarini Your right, it is a lot of work, but it’s so rewarding giving him the best life we can.
Mikey is so happy! This seems like an ideal life, for the parrot and the humans. Thank you for taking care of him!
Aww thanks. We do our best to give them the best life we can.
We do our best to give Mikey the best life we can. Haha our parents think we are crazy with the amount of our lives revolve around him lol
I feel like Mikey’s picking up your New Zealand accent...
Haha amazing. I’ll teach him NZ slang next haha
I thought i heard a nz twang. Boy i miss the accent
lel I couldn't tell if he was english, aussie or kiwi
Wogs4Lyfe haha, been living too many places for too many years now
Honestly, I think you 3 are doing the "pet" thing right.
SerenitysCall Awww thanks so much.
SerenitysCall Mikey’s basically family
This is so well worded. If i was your parent i would be extremely proud
This is all very true.
You’re such a good and lovely person! As i saw how majestic, beautiful and friendly Mikey is and the connection between you three shows that you’ve put alot of training, love and caring in this friendship and i admire you for it. It is rare to see such person having such a strong bond with a macaw
Awww thanks. We do our best to keep them happy.
Great vlog. Keep em coming. Love the humor
Thanks. We will do our best to make a few more.
his food looks real good when it is done
1:11 Him: Doesn't smell..
Also Him: (Dying in the inside)
Haha, they are really clean lol
God bless you, I just love the bond you and your bird Mickey have, it's amazing, he is a happy camper .
what a sweet Macaw..you can tell just by looking at him just how healthy and happy he is. ive always wanted either a raven or a parrot of some kind (and as far as parrots goes, the blue and gold mecaw is very high on that list)....
also, him playing with your glasses was amusing to watch.
Haha we do our best to keep them happy. They are a lot of work though.
@@MikeyTheMacaw i imagine so,but the companionship with such a bird must be very rewarding.
I could take my birds outside but....
They won’t come back lol
Kaia marino u can watch how he tought his birds to free flight, youd have to use a harnass/bird leash until u know hel come back
Don't even attempt to free fly without months and months of very hard work training and research as to where to fly.
Richard Smith put there cage outside theres a chance they will see it and fly back if a hawk hasn’t got to them
I met only one macaw in my life: his name was Trouble, but I didn't know that at the time.
Haha, yea these birds can be very cheeky.
Macaws are so beautiful when they fly
You guys are such responsible and knowledgeable parrot owners👏
We do our best to keep them happy.
Oh no. So sorry to hear this.

Aww thanks. We do our best to keep them happy.
He’s so spoiled! Lol you guys are great parents!!
CrystalLucyMoon Haha, we do our best to make him happy.
I have a question have you looked into wetting leaves and letting him rub himself against them just for a more wild type of theme and if so has it worked at all for you and Mikey
Vannah K We actually have never tried that. No harm in giving it a go though.
That parrot is smarter than half of my classmates xD
Haha
9:36 *"The f are these ugly things?!"*
Geese.
This is one of the coolest Video's i have seen on RUclips i couldn't help but smile the whole time.. Such a Good pet Dad and Cool Bird Mikey is Amazing
Awww thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed it.
Mikey deserves everything❤️ nothing too dramatic but he can have my kidney if he want it❤️❤️
Tisha Tandon haha omg this made us lol.
Mikey The Macaw & Friends soo.... when’s the mikey and mia merch coming out?😂😂
Tisha Tandon What would you like? Mikey and Mia underwear?
Btw Mickey is in a hormonal stage were he rubs his butt on stuff and puts his head down with his butt up that happens to every parrot specially during the spring time witch is so close rn..what you should do is not cuddle your bird you can only touch Mickey from his head, and under his neck...or else you are sexually frustrating your macaw.
Yea we usually only stay around the head for scratches just incase he gets the wrong idea.
Mikey The Macaw & Friends u need to get Mikey a friend.
DreamSteal We recently did, we posted a few updates on our RUclips status but full progress is on our insta and Facebook.
Love this! Would definitely not be mad if I saw more of these 😋😋😋😋

pacificbeauty Awww thanks so much.
I like the people's reactions. There so funny and make me smile.
Haha aww, yea people usually smile when we are out with them
how does he just not fly away on the street or fly way from u guys at the park
Lori Woloshyn Months and months of training. We made a video about it called “Parrot journey to freeflight” he knows we are his flock, he loves us, and sleeping in a cold tree getting rained on and getting attacked by crows is way less fun than coming home for food and cuddles haha
Aimee Kathleen probably coz he has a happy life
He’s so cute
2:30 hahaha so small can't even find it hahahahha
This is very true.
Your an incredible Macaw ambassador!!! Cheers to you !!
