I am a veterinarian who occasionally treats exotic birds. This video should be required viewing for anyone contemplating the purchase of a macaw or cockatoo!
I have 2 macaws, a green wing and a blue and gold like him. There's a lot of bonding you have to do with them to get them to that point I would say the blue and golds have bigger personalities than any other bird I have ever seen though they are weird
I work at an exotic pet bird store and it is so nice and relieving to see such beautiful (and honestly, not quite domesticated) animals treated properly and given proper nourishment, care, and stimulation! You'd be surprised how many people don't even know what seed their bird eats or didn't know that they are supposed to get bathed! Your birds are in great condition!
Ah, man, these two are so chill compared to my friends pair. She rescued two ~20 year old boys a while back from an incredibly bad situation, and while they are sweet little angels they have been hell for a long time... She had to install a shower into their room (which they know how to turn on, it's quite amusing) as she hadn't had a shower alone in seven years, any time they hear the water run they scream and cry to get in, they scream and sing while they're in the water aha. Theyve been generally "litter trained" which has been a blessing. They try to make their messes in their bin but they do have some accidents still, the boys are well known for pooping on people because they refuse to leave their shoulder My friend free-flights them and has them microchipped, though they go around the neighborhood to bum food and play with the crows, they never go too far and come when called but hate to stay within a small area because the crows can go wherever they want to, will get spicy if they can't play tag and go off to see any babies and meet new crows. I've caught them taking their food to crow nests a few times, they're very sweet until you realise that it's inevitable that the crows will learn their french bad-mouthing and start cursing at people in /two/ languages I've always seen the macaws having more personality than my rats, they're a lot like flying toddlers with demon feet. They're super smart, they've both figured out different types of doorknobs and the dog doors, they know how to work tv remotes, Nintendo controllers(never give a macaw a Wii nunchuck piece) and will turn their light on/off when they want to go to bed or be awake, they (for the most part) know how to work their window blinds as well. They know how to ask for food and usually know what they want, but there's a few times Hook will beg and cry for a pickle and then be disgusted with you for the night for daring to bring a pickle into his presence and Puck refuses to learn cereal names and it's all "cheermos", but does he mean cheerios, frootloops? Maybe cornpops? He makes us go through it all, let him see and smell and taste and he'll feel it with his feets and rub it on himself while he tries to figure out which is superior lmfao
Some info for future bird owners, who would like to make their feathered friends a healthy salad. *Don't* feed them avocado. Both avocade and chocolate *are* pure *poison* for these type of tropical birds

Imagine you are over at their house and daddy human says “I gotta take a shower with the birds just a sec” 5 min later..... AHHHH AHHHHHH AHHHHHHHHHHH AHHHHHHH AHHHHHHH AHHH AHHHH AHHHHH AHHHH
Did you train them to fly back to you after full flight or was it just natural for them to fly to you? Were you ever worried that they would fly off? Beautiful birds! Have an African Grey who is such a charmer.
The foot stomping is my fav. I've had parakeets, a green parrot mix thing that my ex brought home one day, and a cockatiel. I am buying a condo next year and as I have no pets at the moment, I would like to rescue/adopt a cockatoo. And they also love being on the floor and doing the stompy stompy running around and I just love that sound.

QUESTION!!! How do they not fly away when they’re free flying? Do they know that if they leave they can’t survive or is it a bond or is it training? Pls let me know!!
You should make more videos like this so people understand that have a bird you need a lot of time, I sleep early because I wake up 30 minutes before sunrise at (5 or 5:30am depend of the month of the year ) because the birds wake up and start singing and my birds they want to wake up to , in Guatemala the fruits and vegetables are fresh and cheap but I go 2 times a week to the market to buy new foods , the veterinarian specialist in birds are expensive , I buy a lot of bamboo every month to make perches and they love to destroy them, they love to take a bath every 3 days, and they go to sleep at in the sunset at (5:30 to 6:30pm depend of the month of the year ),and I have to do this every day...

The guy who runs the garage in my town has a blue-gold macaw parrot. I wentvto say hello and the cheeky bugger climbed up my arm on my shoulder, nibbled my finger, bobbed up and down a little bit - not sure why (???), made my day. 😄
So basically your day is filled with cleaning up poop & feathers and fallen food.. then, hearing the sound of their people while keeping them occupied 💕
I have a mat that I put under my birds food dishes. Majority of the food falls there. Then I just pick it up and tip it in the compost. Much less work.
Your life basically revolves around them. I have a cat. She’s really low maintenance as compared to the care you give you wonderful birds. Her name is Sushi.
I just came across your vlog and throughly enjoyed seeing your beautiful birds! Well done to you two for looking after them both and I can see they enjoy it too! Bravo!! 😍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🤙👌
This is a great video. It really puts big parrot ownership in perspective: they need similar care and attention as a toddler...for 50 years plus! You cannot buy them because they are cute and treat them as canaries. Just a note: I live in a farm an own a green winged macaw. It flies free most of the day (from 08h30 to 15h30 to minimize contact with raptors. He is too big to be in their menu but he is harassed). With this level of physical activity the diet presented here would not have enough calories. My bird mostly eats high quality nuts and fruits, supplemented by half of a large egg white once a week. Keep these videos coming!
I love this video. Because you dont sugar coat anything, you show the bad parts too. I have a bird but he's a budgie, so hes probably not as loud as your macaws!

ive been doing research for the past year about macaws now im just waiting and finishing up some research tying up loose ends and preparing
I feel like the screaming competition is something all bird owners resonate with...or is it just me
Well if your looking for screamers come to house
Wow, you guys must be mentality so strong to do this, i mean the effort you guys put into one day of taking care of the parrots it's like a whole months effort of me cleaning my room.
Great chop for your birds, going to start doing the same. Give them pieces of lots of veggies , sometimes waste them . Apples , nuts, lettuce too..Treat mix with papaya other foods . Glad to see your macass
You can Keep the Feather, I want BOTH Parrots! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love feathers, I’m critically ill and bedbound but I see this is three months old so I guess it’s been given away already. Beautiful birds!! Thanks. 🇬🇧💕
Such beautiful parrots,a nice little family you both have.I really enjoyed watching them fly,boy they are beautiful. What a privilege and joy to have them and a whole lot of work.Best to you all.
Birds are so magical 🥰🥰🥰
I want that feather since I love Mikey and Mia, They are just the cutest parrots in the world! I have A African grey and he basicly just likes to chill lol, I want to train him to fly but weather cold and windy up here in sweden! Hope I Get it :D
Yay. Live draw on Instagram tomorrow 6:30pm UK time.
I’m getting 2 cockatiels or Hahns macaws soon, just got a cage and I’m super excited and I’ll probably be free flying them in a few years
Its very good that you show the good and bad, busy/dirty side of owning these animals. People do not understand the complicated life of these creatures.
hi mummy and daddy human! hope you are doing fine and we all get to be relieved from this repulsive disease spreading around. So happy to see your birds having fun and eating healthy to live the best live they can!

Ah yes, indeed. I too scream in the shower every morning!
They are gorgeous ❤️❤️❤️
You know the first 10 seconds of the clip is actually a good representation of how much work it is to have a bird, no matter the size.
screaming and biting the stearing wheel- totally relatable- i do that too when my bf takes too long at the store.:D
You guys obviously take great care of them - it shows!! God bless all of you.
Imagine you are over at their house and daddy human says “I gotta take a shower with the birds just a sec” 5 min later.....
AHHHH AHHHHHH
AHHHHHHHHHHH
AHHHHHHH AHHHHHHH AHHH AHHHH AHHHHH AHHHH
Haha yup

@@MikeyTheMacaw they only have 24 hours or it's mine! Jk. 🤣
Good job! ( wish it was me tho 😂 )
I want that feather, its probably the closest thing to a bird my parents will let me get :)
Same
Yay. Live draw on Instagram tomorrow 6:30pm UK time.
LOVE this. you are wonderful caring human parents/companions for both of them. I am owned by a cockatoo so I can relate to much of what you shared.. Your parrots are so lucky!
You guys have the coolest birds I thought it was me but I have a little Budgie and I always say she acts like a little puppy put her head down for me to rub it scratch it birds are amazing pets I’m still waiting on her to say just one word love it 🥰
This is the cutest video this year, made me so happy and learnt a lot
omg the screaming competition! So cute!! That made me laugh so much!
Me to
I've enjoyed this video very much. I use to own budgies and watching how you enjoy having them around is just a blessing. Oh I know that having these beautiful exotic birds is a treat. Thanks for sharing this video with us all.
I used to want a parrot and it wasn't out of impulse, my granny used to have birds and so I've grown up with them... But seeing how loud they can get as an adult who has to deal with bills and noise complaints... I've decided to live vicariously through you guys
Haha much easier than actually having one.
I loughed so badly at 9 o clock and already cleaning, parrot ownership teaches you to do a shitload of chores or else your house will be ruined.
A handheld vacuum was the greatest investment of my life
Haha yes
@@MikeyTheMacaw why don't you guys have a vacuum cleaner?
@@caroannaetemrikg.4958 Could be that they tried one and it spooks the birds too much. I had to shop around for one of the quietest ones I could find to not spook mine.
12:03 He’s heard the phrase “step up” so many times that he’s gone crazy.
So funny, the shower part!
Solution suggestion for the door...clear acrylic shelves attached to both sides of the door near the top....catches poop so less cleanup than cleaning the whole door and no poop on floor
I used them in the window sill my birds like to perch on ...easier to clean and since they're clear they don't visually impose on other decor
My two budgies are more interested in each other rather than any toy I put in for them.
Nobody:
Daddy human: " *The birds start sixty nine-ing* "
They did
@@MikeyTheMacaw I know lol just a funny quote to add to the list
@@MikeyTheMacaw what's next? BABIES!?!?!?
I WANT THAT FEATHER
I’m also a weird parrot owner who collects their conure’s feathers! And for anyone without parrots...the mess is REAL!
yep..the mess....
Yay. Live draw on Instagram tomorrow 6:30pm UK time.
Such happy birds. I love them ❤️
your birds are so majestic and i just have a green cheeked anger chicken lol.
QUESTION!!! How do they not fly away when they’re free flying? Do they know that if they leave they can’t survive or is it a bond or is it training? Pls let me know!!
I think it is a mixture of bonding and training
Months of free flight training and of course having a strong bond.
Yes we think it would be a great idea to touch base with more real videos like this
I want that feather as I love macaws and I never touched a macaw so atleast I touch his 'dropped' feather 😘😊
I have green winged macaw feathers you can have
@@omlet1231 :0 pls i have a conure I get her feathers and i also used to collect hawk and other bird feathers...i have 2 hawk feathers :] and id love macaw feathers lmao im joking even though it would be cool
I collect feathers too. Its ny hobby type.
I also collect all kinds of feathers. I would love macaw feathers
Mine is a mini macaw and it’s green too
"There is a foot check..." that was hilarious... 😆😆😆
I would love to have one, but by the end of the video I was exhausted... it's like taking care of two babies...
Great video!
The guy who runs the garage in my town has a blue-gold macaw parrot. I wentvto say hello and the cheeky bugger climbed up my arm on my shoulder, nibbled my finger, bobbed up and down a little bit - not sure why (???), made my day. 😄
I want that feather, lol my biggest bird is a sun conure and it's so pretty
Yay. Live draw on Instagram tomorrow 6:30pm UK time.
Him: I draw the curtains slowly
also him:*draws the curtains in 2 seconds*
So basically your day is filled with cleaning up poop & feathers and fallen food.. then, hearing the sound of their people while keeping them occupied 💕
I had two budgies when I was younger. We had a blue and white one named Bonnie and a yellow and green one named Sadie.
I have a mat that I put under my birds food dishes. Majority of the food falls there. Then I just pick it up and tip it in the compost. Much less work.
my parrotlets are tiny compared to them
Mikey was probably telling you to step up because he just wants you to be as active as he is!
Ja živim u hrvatskoj i iznad mene je sokolarski centar tu eskadrilu vidim svaki dan
I want that feather!
Yay. Live draw on Instagram tomorrow 6:30pm UK time.
Your life basically revolves around them. I have a cat. She’s really low maintenance as compared to the care you give you wonderful birds. Her name is Sushi.
sweet name!
I just came across your vlog and throughly enjoyed seeing your beautiful birds! Well done to you two for looking after them both and I can see they enjoy it too! Bravo!! 😍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🤙👌
I want that feather (but I live in the Netherlands and I don’t have the money for shipping so I understand if you give it to someone else
We could ship there. Comp is at 6:30pm Uk tome tomorrow on Instagram
@@MikeyTheMacaw Thanks a lot but you can give it to someone else. Love to Mikey and Mia!
these are one of the cutest birbs in the world
my friends macaw got lost during free flight and broke its leg 😔
Sorry to hear this
Sad 😫
I want that feather 😍
Yay. Live draw on Instagram tomorrow 6:30pm UK time.
Keep these videos coming!
you guys are the best youtubers ever you guys have made my quarantine much better for me
Can't wait for Mia to accidentally honk the horn.
Lol me too. Imagine if the people she scared realise that a birb scared them

I love this video. Because you dont sugar coat anything, you show the bad parts too. I have a bird but he's a budgie, so hes probably not as loud as your macaws!
Haha got to show it all
Your birds seem so very happy. It’s wonderful to see. Thanks for sharing.
