Great analysis, as usual. Just to add to what you said I think this episode is a major turning point for Dwight, this is like the straw that broke the camel's back. This is the last time he 'falls on his sword' for Michael. What pushed him over the edge, I believe, is that it turned out ok and he was finally going to be rewarded for his loyal behavior, but then Michael just couldn't let him have it. I think that's what pushed him to side with Charles later on and that's also why he was so vicious while trying to take Michael's company down. All those times he let Michael walk all over him and he did nothing. And the scary thing is that if it hadn't been for Jim, Dwight would have totally destroyed them and probably inherited the branch once they went bankrupt and Charles had to find a permanent replacement for Michael. He came so close! He just had to brag about solving the mystery of the Beet Bandit hahahaha. I love this show :)
"What is a pallet?" I can hear Patrice O'Neil yell, "Damnit Michael!" Later, I think Kevin is adorable, I hate everyone's advise, just be yourself Mr. Malone. Finally, I love that Michael shifting blame totally backfires.
I grew up with the Willy Wonka movie, seeing it at the movie theater in 1972. Also saw it at our library pre-pandemic. Never saw the remake. I enjoyed it as a kid, but as an adult, I take a more satirical approach to the movie (plus, the early part with the ticket comes off as the film itself being satirical, which I liked). There are a couple pop culture digs at it I loved. One was on Futurama where the movie's parodied. Stand-ins for the Oompa Loompas did their thing, then the Professor saying, "Tell them I hate them!" Really, the Oompa Loompas songs are so holier-than-thou, I agree. And SNL once did a DVD commentary (parody) for the film, portraying the disturbing, psychedelic boat ride, followed by a commentator saying, "This is a KID's movie?!" I did enjoy the movie the more recent viewing, but, wow, is some of that is messed up.
I actually hated Wallace in this episode. He thought the idea was horrible until the client increased their purchases. The outcome isn’t determinative here, Michael got super lucky, they could’ve just taken the discount and screwed Dunder Mifflin, it was still objectively a stupid idea and Wallace showed he was very fickle.
I could not agree more on the 5/5 rating on the cold opening. Jim's face when he realizes what's happening is one of my favorite moments of this season! I don't know why but it just makes me laugh. I probably would give the episode a 3/5, but maybe a 3.5 just because it has Wallace and I love all the episodes he's in. Great field guide again, sir. I hope you and your wife and children have a happy and blessed Easter.
It's about the Gene Wilder "Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory," I believe. This would be a movie from michael's childhood or adolescence, being that it came out in the 70s and michael is 43-44-45 during season 5. Gene Wilder seems to be pretty influential to Michael and that michael tries to adopt a whimsical style of performance like the very fondly remembered Gene Wilder interpretation of Willy Wonka. Also, doesn't he correct them and say *it's willy wonka and the chocolate factory*
I was born in '83 and have a very good and grounded memory and yeah, I remember thinking, "why are you have me and my YOUNGER sister watch this?" 😆 ...Wonka was Saw for kids 🤣
Big fan of this episode. I wish the deleted scene with Michael talking about a new boss would've stayed. It would've added texture to both sides of things.
Just rewatched this episode 2 days ago,and that B story really got to me. Yes,Andy is definitely projecting and giving bad advice to Kevin. But I feel for him when he says during a talking head, [When you put your heart out there] “it’s liable to turn into some blackened carbon brick in a barbecue sauce of shame and rage” and when he cries while watching Kevin & Lynn making a connection(this scene is probably supposed to be funny maybe) ,I lament for him. 😕
I wonder if Michael was willing to throw Dwight under the bus bc of what he said during the roast. He also doesn't want to screw over Jim bc of the mortgage
I like the take on perception versus reality. The real perception versus reality here though is that Michael loves his employees. I have had some bad bosses but none of them would try to coerce me into taking the fall for them especially since Dwight is so loyal to him unjustifiably I might add. The purported Michael Scott character growth is not evident here at all just the narcissistic self indulgent Michael
between michael being inspired by the willy wonka movie and his harry potter comment as prison mike, i don't think michael reads books. speaking of, you really haven't been aware of the whimsical writing of rhold dahl (you guys may have to watch matilda and james and the giant peach. also read the magic finger) you don't remember dorris, the secretary oompa-lumpa also, curious what idris elba references you'll make in the next episode
I don’t know if I can watch next week or the week after...I hate Charles sooooo much! These are episodes I always skip but if you promise to roast him, I’ll watch. ( Idris Elba is amazing though).
I despise Charles Minor. He made it hard to watch the show when he was on. Such a jerk. I am thankful, however, that the character was instrumental in the existence of the Michael Scott Paper Company arc, so there is that.
There's always suspension of disbelief fails in TV and films. There's absolutely loads in The Office. (I DO love the show though btw.) This is a biggie in this one though. In a real world situation David Wallace would have sacked Michael for his actions in this episode. I get it that that might just have spoiled the show somewhat for people who only watched it for Michael. But still...
...I don't think anywhere in the video or comments did people criticize Willy wonka for being 'unwoke'. I think they criticized it based on it being freaky and scary for many kids, which I think most people agree with. I don't remember almost anything about watching that movie as a kid but I do remember being freaked out by that boat scene.
Pretty sure the golden ticket idea is illegal as well. There are laws dictating sweepstakes, and they can't force you to buy a product to enter the sweepstake without having their business be a lottery or some kind of gambling thing. Idk the specifics though
Millennial-like mind speaking alert. The Johnny Depp creepy version is just weird. The first one has nothing scary about that. And the girl is "punished" for taking what didn't belong to her/disobedience, not because of chewing gum. I guess the decade word is "trauma", everything causes pain and trauma. Haha Love the videos.
Tim Burton needs to go back to making small, strange films centered on lovable weirdos. Once he gave in to Hollywood $$$ and the pressures to homogenize the weirdness into something more palatable for the masses, his films turned to crap.
Mul-guy, good channel. First time you earned a Thumbs Down from me. Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is one of the best kids movies. Still watch it when it’s streaming. Oompa Loompa!!!!
Never understood the hype with the original, it creeps me out. Willy Wonka is kind of a monster. Also, hates chew/bubble gum and makes them in abundance.
I usually skip this one after the cold opening, but I watched it for you and it wasn't as bad as I remembered it being. Still find this latter half of S4 to be full of incredibly weak episodes. I wish the show had let Kevin be happy.
I like to watch these videos when I eat my meals a lot of the time, and that slapping sequence just made me spit out my food! That was epic!
Hey welcome to the office field guide, my names Chris and we’re reviewing every episode of the office ever!!

I loved the reversal when Michael's bullying backfired.

I was an 80's kid, Willy Wonka scared the hell out of me! I thought it was a horror movie. I love Gene Wilder as an adult, but that movie scared me
I actually hated Wallace in this episode. He thought the idea was horrible until the client increased their purchases. The outcome isn’t determinative here, Michael got super lucky, they could’ve just taken the discount and screwed Dunder Mifflin, it was still objectively a stupid idea and Wallace showed he was very fickle.
And Michael is the hero
"And like Uno, the situation gets reversed." Lol, Chris.
Stoked for Charles freaking Miner

Its been awhile since The Office has made me lol. Kevin's "Boobs." line made it happen.

“you want me to be tom cavanagh” as a scrubs and the flash fan i love this 😂
LOL. Mulverine doesn't get Roald Dahl.
I was born in '83 and have a very good and grounded memory and yeah, I remember thinking, "why are you have me and my YOUNGER sister watch this?" 😆
...Wonka was Saw for kids 🤣
The Honest Trailer literally made that joke for the title!
Big fan of this episode. I wish the deleted scene with Michael talking about a new boss would've stayed. It would've added texture to both sides of things.
Michael and Holly at 11:20 over the pink foam!
I think you did it first! Wasn’t sure anyone was going to find it!
"I never knew why chuck and willy ran these contests" When did Charlie ever run a contest 😆
The best tug of war for Kevin is Michael vs Angela in Cafe Disco
They get 5 pallets of paper
great slap montage!
Video 3 of asking Mulverine to make a Michaelism compilation B)
The Gene Wilder Willy Wonka is absolute genius. You dont seem to understand that at all.
I think we agree on the latter point!
Do you think that Dwight was lying about his childhood movies to get Michael fired so he could be the manager?
I like to this of this episode as the jumping off point for my favorite ark.
Just rewatched this episode 2 days ago,and that B story really got to me. Yes,Andy is definitely projecting and giving bad advice to Kevin. I always think this is the first episode of the Michael Scott Paper Company arc for some reason.
I wonder if Michael was willing to throw Dwight under the bus bc of what he said during the roast. He also doesn't want to screw over Jim bc of the mortgage
I think this season and arc is really peak Michael content. With the early seasons being when Jim and Pam as characters peaked.
I like the take on perception versus reality. The real perception versus reality here though is that Michael loves his employees. I have had some bad bosses but none of them would try to coerce me into taking the fall for them especially since Dwight is so loyal to him unjustifiably I might add. 5 pallets, they used a lot of paper
the origonal Willy wonka movie from the 70's was never supposed to be a family movie, it was supposed to be a horror movie actually
I don’t know. It was produced by Quaker Oats to sell candy to kids, and we bought it.
Charlie was originally black, but the editors made Dahl change it
between michael being inspired by the willy wonka movie and his harry potter comment as prison mike, i don't think michael reads books.
speaking of, you really haven't been aware of the whimsical writing of rhold dahl (you guys may have to watch matilda and james and the giant peach. also read the magic finger)
you don't remember dorris, the secretary oompa-lumpa

"TODAY WE ARE CANCELLING THE APOCALYPSE!!!"
THERE ARE NO MOVIES IN MILLENIAL PRISON
didnt Michael already invent the toilet net in a deleted scene at some point?
I don’t know if I can watch next week or the week after...I hate Charles sooooo much! These are episodes I always skip but if you promise to roast him, I’ll watch. ( Idris Elba is amazing though).
Haha! Ok I’ll see what I can do.
I despise Charles Minor. He made it hard to watch the show when he was on. Such a jerk. I am thankful, however, that the character was instrumental in the existence of the Michael Scott Paper Company arc, so there is that.
we got a boss like Charles at my work.
My mom too me to see the exorcist so consider yourself lucky
Mulv worrying bout the movies and he hasnt even seen the willy wonka tiktok account lmao. Honestly it is so much less kid appropriate for kids :sobs:.
There's always suspension of disbelief fails in TV and films. There's absolutely loads in The Office. (I DO love the show though btw.)

New Boss:👦🏻📝👨🏿🔩🤵🏽
The 70's Wonka was great, I was about 10 at that time, still a favorite today! Wokeness or "enlightenment" can wreck things for some people!

That's interesting. I mean, couldn't the company just phrase this as them choosing to give a discount to a specific customer?
So disappointed with the Willy Wonka, but not seeing it as a kid might change my mind too. Also a Missouri guy, love the channel!
Millennial-like mind speaking alert.

Willy Wonka is a fantastic movie. The sequel is terrible but the original is straight up classic with incredible sarcastic dry humor the whole time.
Thank you for reminding me to renew my Peacock account lol👍
And I ain't even getting paid to do that. dang...
Never understood the hype with the original, it creeps me out. Willy Wonka is kind of a monster. Also, hates chew/bubble gum and makes them in abundance.
Agreed
Anyone k ow where jim slapping dwight and then dwight slapping andy is from
Wait was the winner of the trivia contest in here or did i miss it?
Trivia and Easter egg winners are in the closing window at the end of the vid.
@@Mulverine aaahhh i was scouring the opening for it 😅😅
When Michael says he doesn't know what a pallet is, Daryll's look to the camera was very Chuck Jones-ian. Nicely done!
Have a great day!
I didn’t see Michael snd holly in there either
For what it's worth you need more subscribers
5 pallets
Shit he beat me!
I kinda miss the dundies
How do you know what a female Oompa Loompa looks like?
First off, the johnny Depp version sucks. The 70s version is fantastic.
3 palettes
I love disliking these video but him calling Charlie, chuck was a moment i hit the dislike button numerous times
Bro you had never seen willy wonka? Imma keep watching this channel cause the contents good. But you lost ALL movie critic cred
I usually skip this one after the cold opening, but I watched it for you and it wasn't as bad as I remembered it being. Still find this latter half of S4 to be full of incredibly weak episodes. I wish the show had let Kevin be happy.
Why would they hire female oompa Loomis it would ruin the song
Why tom cavanaugh😂
this guy is kind of the definition of the soy beta stereotype and i don't even believe in that stuff
No political correctness makes Gene Wilder’s film timeless.
Golden Ticket is one of the cringiest episodes for me. Up there with Scott’s Tots.
This video has a criminally low amount of likes. Tbh all of these videos do
lmao boomer
Soy boy!!!!!
3 pallets
