  • In this video I talk with Kevin Graber (KG) of Big Blue Baseball on RUclips and Head Coach of the 11 time State Champs Phillips Academy Andover! KG is literally writing the book on baserunning and in this video 3 of 5 on “Systematic Chaos” I pick his brain about the “Jump Lead Steal Breaks” technique he teaches his players to swipe more stolen bases. This new school base stealing technique was made popular by Mike Roberts and his son Brian Roberts, and fine tuned to work with players at all ages by KG himself. Give it a watch and implement it into your program today!

    More teams need to chart opposing pitchers. It’s amazing how many pitchers leg lift on the same letter 90%+ of the time. Even at the college level.

    Been fan of these vids for over 2 years now...great info! Now my youngest is 8th grade catcher and getting into things he "actually" has to work on...like blocking and because of arm strength he now on mound! He blocks like pro when coach says "block and recover" these...but in game his pitcher spikes fastballs and he still trys to back hand! Then when calls a offspeed they throw them for strike and never in dirt!

    I started reading the title and thought this was gonna be a video about stealing signs. I need that video so I can get on base with my 47 year old ass in the first place! Great videos!

    Great upload! I just became head baseball coach at Phyliss Wheatley High School in Houston. I plan on implementing Systematic Chaos immediately. I enjoy your content and look forward to taking a deep dive.

    How would this work for 12u or kids who haven’t grown yet? Like does the step count change?

    Do you not try this at all from 1st to 2nd with lefty?

    When diving back, why not extend both hands?

    • @bsibracing6131
      @bsibracing6131 Год назад

      diving with right puts you on the back side of the bag, less body to tag and puts you in a position to turn your head to the outfield so you don’t get hit in the face and you can see the ball get by the first basemen on a miss throw

      @@bsibracing6131all of what you said is correct but also just like a basketball play can jump higher reaching with one had then he can with both you gets you back to the bag a little faster. Granted not a major difference but that split second is the difference between being safe and being out

    That is an easy pick off for any good coach. If I'm watching I'll have my pitcher pick off from a verbal as the runner jumps. I get runners on this a few times a season.

      I actually tried this and another visual method against the jump lead and both were ineffective when I was sure it would shut it down.. They ran all over us with it the first game.. Since then we have completely shut it down with a different strategy against it though

      As a catcher I would call for pick 3 and pick 5 (seconds). Also would have my pitchers pause and hold until the batter calls time out.

    Ok, this is ridiculous. Guessing is not a strategy. I am shocked that you can have a 20 minute video about stealing from first base. Granted, lefties are their own problem, but all you need to know about a right handed pitchers is the right heel. If it comes up on first movement he has to step off or go to first, if it stays down on first movement he has to go home. You can thank Lou Brock.

      A very good team in Northern Indiana does this very successfully. I saw it twice in state finals. No chance to throw them out. We added it but we are more checking pitcher tendencies then working on jumping and going right before the pitcher lifts his leg. We have done it 8-10x the past two years and no one has been close to throwing us out. I usually do it with better baserunners who understand exactly what we are trying to do, but a slow guy or two has also done it and there wasn't even a throw in most cases. It totally surprises the defense.

    • @norse188
      @norse188 Год назад

      I should add....we are not jumping and reading the pitcher. We jump from our regular lead-off. If the pitcher picks, there is almost no chance to get the runner (like stealing on a lift leg of a lefty) barring two absolutely perfect throws and, even then, odds are slim.

      This is a higher percentage according to his charts. The heel raise is the old school way and is how most approach the base stealing. This is in effect like card counter playing black jack . Doesn’t mean they can’t get caught but they have better odds bc prep before hand with charts ie counting cards in casino.
