  • I don't own the copyright for this of course. I simply wish to share this fantastic interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach's Chaconne from his Violin Partita No. 2 in D Minor (BWV 1004), played by the Monster of Metal, the Australian God of the Guitar, John Williams. This recording, from the LP 'Virtuoso Variations for Guitar' issued in 1969, was sadly never issued on CD. This is Williams' own transcription, based on Andres Segovia's arrangement (which accompanies the music).

I keep listenening to this recording with Bach, John Williams and his Fleta. I think Bach would love this.

A really great piece of JSB! Best version i ever heard(on guitar). The way that John Williams approach every music theme is unique! The '61 Fleta spruce with this unforgettable tight, nasal, "archetype" sound is outstanding!

I have listened to John Williams playing Chaconne on his Fleta over 1000 times, and I never get bored. It is not only such a magnificent piece of all time, but John's playing combined with his Fleta provide a grandeur piece.
His recording playing Chaconne with a Smallman guitar was good but the first one was definitely much much better.....

    To key2kingdom:
This magnificent piece was recorded by John Williams in 1965 on a spruce top guitar built by Ignacio Fleta 1961. The cd was again made available in around 1999 and 2000 which I bought through CDNow.
John Williams transcribed his own style of Chaconne with a lot of single notes as it is for violine, much different to that of Segovia's transcription. I was able to write this Chanonne for personal use in which John Williams recorded.

@yongyong64 Yeah. No matter how it was digitally remastered, it is hard to not noticed the sound's pitch of the 1960's and prior era.Still a great recording.
