Nice playing, it is good to see someone who can actually play guitar when doing these gear reviews because some of the other vids i have seen feature some awful 'guitarists'.
@Jesusismy440 Hi there, the settings are as follows: Gain - 2 oclock, Treble - 12 oclock, Mids - 1 oclock, Bass 12 oclock, Contour 9 oclock. That works great for me on both the blues and burn settings, and turn up the gain for more saturation if needs be! The bridge tone pot on the strat was down to 7/10. I hope this helps!
@bjornkom I like the midrange punch on the amp for the reason you gave. It cuts through mixes really well studio and live wise. I got the 10" speaker initially for its compact size and im pleased because when i tried the 1x12 i didn't like it as much tonally!
thanks for the excellent review , i just bought this amp , have a few different types of guitars , Fender, Gibson etc. they all sound great through this amp Thanks again Allan ,and very nice playing too Regards Ian
@@troywm1016I think it is 12". I will check mine tonight. But the stock speaker isn't that great anyway. I run it into an external cab with a vintage EVM12L or Celestion vintage creambacks or 75s or 80s.
Swapping in and out a different speaker isn t that much of a tech difficulty. Watch the Ohm and Watt values and experiment. The cab holds the 10" and the 22" as well. So there s a lot of room for experimenting. I'm owning and gigging 5:25 Expresses now for 15 yrs or so and I'm still experimenting and learning. Single coils, P90, PAFs, Duesey Dtrons, and Klon, OD3, BD2, ST2 Dumble type pedal options. Plaing for Moore, Santana, Bonamassa, Mr335 type sounds. Love it to death. Still fun learning.
The EQ and Reverb in this Express very nice. The way you place the amp in this way could be having more bass. I play my amp everyday love it. You make the amp sings well man. Great player
@bjornkom Hi thanks for the comment! Glad you fixed that problem! Your amp sounded ill! You do get some humming noise from all amps, my mesa isnt too bad, but you can still hear it. I don't think its a bad thing. Does the noise sound louder on the 2nd channel, and get progressively louder as you turn up the amp? If so that is normal. The noise can come from other things such as if you are using power supplies with different voltages for your pedals, if you are using single coils..stuff like that!
Nice demo! Just got one too, price was good and sold my peavey 4 10 due to the weight. took a few weeks to experiment but first amp I ever had that I liked both channels. Peavey dirty is wonderful but did not like clean. This amp has it all and is light. good job.
i want to buy the 550 plus but must say after hearing your demo im surprised by that amp. wanted the bigger because of more headroom, but what you have there im sure would cater for most things very well. Sounds brilliant
Hey brother! Just a great demo, got me purchasing my 5:25 head :) I got it used, just a question, I've seen some guys push small 5W tube amps to max volume in a room, while I simply can't go past 9 o clock even on 5W setting for indoor use. Would have to say You can gig on the 5W setting EASY. Is that the case with Your amp aswell (I see You also keep it below 9 o clock in the vid)? I was even wondering if everything is working OK on my amp lol :)
Hey, glad you enjoyed the video. I'd say that your amp is fine! The express is a loud amp! I would say that you would probably gig it in 25 watt mode to get over a drummer with decent headroom.
I gig my 5:25 with a drummer in 5 watt mode and have never turned it up past half! It is FREAKING LOUD. I prefer the 5 watt sound as I play mainly country and oldies, so it works for me :) I play mainly mid sized and small bars and clubs, the few outdoor gigs I've played I've had to mic my amp, but still played in 5 watt mode no problem.
@Mickeyned2003 sucks. i'm about to order a natural wood grain finished strat from a byo guitar site and paint that ish trippy 60's colors. Soo excited, but yo man try some convincing. it's gonna be worth it..having your own guitar to mess with. so much fun.
I'm french. Not sure to have understood any detail. Do you mean there is a "solo" function on the footswitch? My 5:25 has contour, reverb and channel functions.
Hi Guitar Guy London. I bought this amp after watching your video and the amp is not even in London it is in my home country so I will only be able to play through it in March 2013. I must be an idiot
This first Express 5:25 combo model consisted of two versions... one with 10" and one with 12" speaker. The 12" version has a taller cabinet, it is not possible to put a 12" speaker in the 10" combo, too tight. Why did I have to buy the 10" version? www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/mesa-express-5-25-10-or-12-speaker.444061/
From what I can remember they are Levis shorts (no idea what the hell 'capri pants' are) and yeah black socks :O Not many people know this but that particular clothing combination improves an amps tone by 5%.
WTF, don't tell me you're wearing cotton socks, no wonder there's only 5% improvement; merino wool baby, 15% tone upswing! Just havin' fun, thanks for playing.
Man, great playing - the way you played has helped solidify me decision to go Mesa Express. Good stuff.
Nice playing, it is good to see someone who can actually play guitar when doing these gear reviews because some of the other vids i have seen feature some awful 'guitarists'.
I will never understand why the Express series isn't more popular. Such amazing amps!
Nice review. I happen to own this one. Definitely a great sounding amp
You can almost always hear when its a Boogie.Great sounds with punch .
Thank you..

Nice playin
I just bought a 5 25 head with Hiwatt 2x12 cab on the strength of your demo. Thanks!
@bjornkom I like the midrange punch on the amp for the reason you gave. It cuts through mixes really well studio and live wise. I got the 10" speaker initially for its compact size and im pleased because when i tried the 1x12 i didn't like it as much tonally!
you'll have fun with. Bin lookin at reviews on the 550 plus for a while but just come across you and pleased i did thanks great interview

thanks for the excellent review , i just bought this amp , have a few different types
of guitars , Fender, Gibson etc. they all sound great through this amp
Thanks again Allan ,and very nice playing too

I got me one of these - fantastic amp! Not a fan of the 10" speaker on mine, but through a cab it's a different beast!
don't they make a 1x12 version? Cheers

Troy WM ok I checked, it’s 10”, a 12” wouldn’t fit in. No wonder it sounds better with external cabinets. The new 5:25 plus is 12” though.

@LittleMopp Thanks for watching, there is a 10inch black shadow speaker in my amp.

Say please that combo can get metall sound?
You play in the style of Eric Johnson IMHO
the amp sounded good, your playing was good. I could not hear you.

Contain Reverb?

The 12" inch speaker actually fits the smaller 5:25 cabinet. In both the original 5:25 and the 5:25 +. I know, I did and do own both.
Lovely...Pity the wife won't let me have one!!
Ditch the wife. She does n t truly love you the way she should. Maybe after 13byrs now you know as well? 😮😊😢😂
1400€
"Clean. Clean with a bit of dirt on it." Which means, no cleans. Too bad.
Too bad we can't see your solo face...
Are you wearing Capri pants and black socks???? It's a good thing Miles Davis is dead, because that would kill him!
From what I can remember they are Levis shorts (no idea what the hell 'capri pants' are) and yeah black socks :O Not many people know this but that particular clothing combination improves an amps tone by 5%.

Also, black socks, they never get dirty and the longer you wear them the stronger they get.
You play in the style of Eric Johnson IMHO
