I find the addition of wingspars in current designs really helpful. It takes care of dihedral, which can bit hit and miss with the traditional way of attaching wings.
100% I completely agree, however it’s got to be super precise as if the piece is wrong it’s rather hard to rectify!🤣
Brilliant build there mate. Thanks for pointing us to Jadlam models. I'm in New Zealand and they were much cheaper to order from, you got them a return customer.
Thank you very much! No problem, they are a superb brand! What are you thinking of ordering from them😁
the reaction with the x21 flat base is because its actually a flattening agent which you add to paint to lower the sheen. never use it straight as its not actually a varnish by itself.
Well this makes me look like a mug!! Thank you very much for letting me know I won’t fall into that trap next time🤣✌🏼
i only know because i did the same thing but used it to seal the final lot of weathering on the outside of a model, ruining it. its a handy product but ive put a big X on top of mine to remind me not to grab it as a flat varnish again :D@@machmodels
Sometimes I'll use flat as a base for weathering on armor. Especially desert war vehicles. It leaves a dusty like appearance on the kit and you can add layers to it that really makes it look like a lot of depth. First time i used it on a Afrika Korps panzer 3....i was shocked by the outcome. Lol. But I used it to my advantage now. Haha
I had the same problem, except my aircraft went white, like it had winter camouflage applied. 😢
@@machmodelsyep. You want XF86 for flat clear
Surprize! Surprize! Seems to becoming the Airfix motto recently. Everyone's eagerly awaiting the Gannet, and Airfix goes a little left field again. Keep it going Airfix. Very neat build of a relatively unknown aircraft. Makes a nice companion to the Me 110. I'll be sure to get one if it ever arrives in Cape Town, although I still have the 110 trop waiting in the stash.
I couldn’t agree with you more! Thank you for the comment😁
I assume you are referring to Eduard's magnificent kit, not that crappy 110 that Airfix produces...
The shrouds I believe are to reduce the flare from the exhausts. Most night fighters/bombers have these. Stops them being seen so easily at night.
Ah makes sense! Thanks for the comment☺️
This is true. The later night fighter/bomber variants of the Mosquito also had these for the exact same purpose. They were also said to slightly reduce noise albeit not their intended purpose.
Just a happy day to have a great build and a great model kit.
I couldn’t agree more! Very enjoyable experience this kit, for a darn good price as well!🤣😁
Bold decision - looks like a top shelf kit.
It really is superb! I can’t wait to see what other people do with this kit😁
Jadlam is my place to go now for my models, Competitive prices and Fast delivery with Free shipping 👌
Same here!! Superb variety of stock as well😁
The shrouds helped to stop the pilot being dazed by the exhausts flames and aslo stopped enemy planes from 🎉seeing them, usually so it could get under the bombers and use the big cannon on the sides to shoot them down, lovely model and excellent build details thsnks for the video.
I think you're thinking of the "shräge musik" armament on nightfighters .. the barbettes on the 410 were for defensive fire only.
Thank you for the informative comment! Really appreciated✌🏼😁
@rich34glider I don't think the ME 410s were used for night-fighting duties, so wouldn't have been fitted with the Schräge Musik.
@@cuttlefisch The A-1 and 2 variants were built intended for night fighting. They are almost identical in appearance apart from the presence of Lichtenstein nose array on some models.
@dogeycj6189 OK thanks. I didn't know that.
All the Luftwaffe planes this one is unique in many ways this turboprop. The details & crosses nice work.
Thanks!😁
Superb job, cracking finish, i ordered one from Jadlam today, looking forward to building it.
Thank you very much!! Hope you enjoy the kit✌🏼
Nice build, Airfix is producing some very nice kits.
Thank you! Hell yeah they have had a superb 2023!🤙🏻
That paint job is immaculate,I don’t understand How you make such a great finish in such a short time! Can’t wait to see your buc in Real life!
Thank you very much dude! Haha I’m not too sure either sometimes, that being said this one really tested how quickly I can chuck them together✌🏼
Very cool! I didn't know this was even coming out!
Thank you! Yes really came outta nowhere!
Great model and great build. Congrats, and thanks for posting it.
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it😁🤙🏻
Tamiya’s Flat Base is designed to tone down the gloss paints in their range. It is not a matt varnish. It can cause severe reactions used this way.
Thank you for the information! Got pretty darn lucky on this one then… won’t do that again🤣🤣
Beautiful 410 love it! Looking forward to getting one myself!
Hope you enjoy it sir!🤙🏻😝
@@machmodels thanks! So it does build up/goes together pretty well?
late, ik, but the shrouds are made for night missions to keep the visibility down and not blind the pilot when it's dark. great build!
Thank you for the information! Really appreciate it😉👌🏻
Looks ace! Another awesome build. 👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you very much sir!😁
Where did this come from!? I had no idea that Airfix was releasing a 410!!! A very welcomed release indeed!
Surprise!! Very welcome on their lineup✌🏼
No one did! Except for the model shops which already have it on sale today, the day it was announced.
An absolute beauty of a kit, being honest I really struggle with mottle as I don’t currently have an airbrush so none of this kit for me!😅 If I must say all of the details and weathering etc.. looks amazing, keep up the amazing work! 😁
Thank you very much!! Ah yes that would be rather hard to do with a brush… maybe it’s time to invest in an airbrush hey?😅
@@machmodels hahaha true! Perhaps for Christmas then 🤣
Looks like a brilliant model kit I am just dreading masking the canopy lol 😂
It really is!! I’m sure eduard will produce a mask set soon enough for all of us😁
Nice work Luke, you'll be happy to know that I got a notification for this video...🥳👍 Luke with flat base, I find if you add a small amount to a colour that it works better than using it neat.
Thank you very much for the information! I’ll keep that in mind next time! Horrayyy RUclips sorted itself out!😁
Great video, a larger scale would have been better but I'll buy it anyway.
The exhaust shrouds were generally fitted for night vision purposes i.e. the flame would not have helped the pilot. It also lessened the chance of being spotted in the dark.
Thank you very much! I would’ve loved to have seen this in 1/32, cheers for the information! Really appreciate it😁✌🏼
Meng does a pretty good one in 1/48th
@@machmodelsthat would be really nice to see.
Brilliant build, very enjoyable and informative. Great stuff.
Thank you very much!😁
How did I miss this one? Brilliant......👍🏻👏🏻👌🏻
Haha not sure! Thank you very much!
Turned out great, looks like a pretty decent kit. Outstanding paintwork. Thanks for sharing your hard work as always
Thank you very much! Very decent kit indeed, glad you enjoyed it!
Absolutely superb! Love the subtle weathering and the paint!
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it✌🏼😁
Great vid 👍 love the pacing and detail
Thank you very much!! Really appreciate it, lots of other content on the channel which I’m sure will be of interest😉✌🏼
Nice! Thanks for the video.
Thank you very much!! Glad you enjoyed✌🏼😁
Nice build . I have to get one for my collection.
This is such a fantastic model channel! How on earth you get these kits and. BUild them so quickly and expertly is beyond me. Didnt airfix just release this kit yesterday? Anyway i wish airfix would kit a HS 129 next.
Хеншель - 129 все ждут...а ,италери, все только обещает перевыпустить свою модель...и тормозит!!😢😮
Thank you very much! I got sent this one a little earlier in the week but still only about 4 days to get everything sorted for it! That would be a superb release hey?😫✌🏼
Great work, not only a new surprise kit but a build video as well. The shroud wasn't anything to do with night ops, all DB engines has them, it was just a basic flame dampner.
Thank you very much! Appreciate the information as well😁
no sign of the ZFR telescopic sight in the kit? Quite a visible feature when fitted with heavy cannon in the nose. Decent reference pics on FalkeEins Luftwaffe blog. Well done on the build/video 10/10
I’m not too sure! I don’t think I missed it out the kit😅😅 I’ll ask them at Telford, thanks for the comment✌🏼😁
Very nice indeed..... 👌🏻👍🏻👏🏻
Thank you very much🤙🏻
Great job !
Thank you dude!✌🏼
Nice build, and no overbearing music. I bought aftermarket swastikas to attach.
Thank you sir! Don’t tell the RUclips people but me too!🤣
Well done Luke you done a brilliant job xx
Thank you very much!✌🏼😁
@@machmodels you going to Telford Model Kit show this weekend

That’s a great build!! 👏👏👏
Thank you very much!! Very kind of you✌🏼😁
As always, great video and great build 👍
Thank you very much sir!✌🏼
Very nice. The fact this looks flawless on my 55 inch TV is testament to a fine model and your skills..V. nice.
Is this the germans attempt at a mosquito?
Thank you very much sir! Ehh I would imagine they are in a similar class!😁
Nice to see you at Telford, subscribed as promised.
Thank you very much dude!! Hope you enjoyed the show✌🏼😁
Hey, the 410 was a night fighter in some iterations, the exhaust shrouds were to hide the glow of the exhaust stacks from the pilot and from potential victims.
Thank you very much for letting me know🤙🏻😉
Awesome work.
Thank you very much!😁
Wooohoooo 🥳 insane buddy 🤩
Thank you so much Matt!😁✌🏼
A great build there
Thank you very much!😁
I guess lots of people have already mentioned that "flat base" isn't a matt varnish, it's a matting agent that you mix with wet satin or gloss paint to reduce its shine.
Yup!!! I have been overwhelmingly schooled! Thanks for the comment🤣✌🏼
Nice build. The exhaust shrouds are there to cover the exhaust stubs to protect the pilots night vision I believe.
Thank you very much! Oooo yes that would make sense, thanks for the comment😁
Also to shield them from the target so not as visible when attacking at night
Very nice..would look good next to Airfix's new Mossie..
Thank you! Definitely… perhaps gives me an excuse to get one😁
A really nice build and a bit of a surprise from Airfix. The plastic appears to different from their regular soapy type.
Thank you! Definitely a very welcome surprise, and yes the plastic is really nice to work with😁
Cracking build mate. The exhaust shroud are flame dampener’s
Thank you! That makes sense, thanks for letting me know✌🏼😁
awesome looking build! i spray everything at 15(maybe 20 sometimes) PSI, and adjust air with the nob on the procon boy V2 .3mm. i only spray lacquers maybe thats why i dont need to go to like 25-30 psi...
Thank you sir! Hmm very interesting, what is that like as an airbrush?
@machmodels i love it! I came from a 50€ sparmax and its definitely a step up. The valve controll on the front is ideal to control airflow, and with correct practice of thin paint and low presure( which i haven't fully figured out yet) you can even do nice fine detail. Its also really easy to clean and keep clean. Something i like is that the paint cup is not a tub like on some cheaper burshes, but directly feeds into the needle (idk how to explain it better but i hope you get it) which leaves less mess to clean up.
Overall im really happy with it and it does a fantastic job and its a blast. Good brand aswell since i use a lot of mr.hobby products, i can definitely recommend it.
12:24 the spatter here is because 2 bar is too high, even for white paint. I use Tamiya & Mr Hobby paints thinned down with Mr Leveling Thinner & spray at around 1.2 bar / 17psi.
BTW, you're not the first to fall for the curse of X-21 Flat Base & you won't be the last!
Amazing build 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you very much!✌🏼😁
Nice work.
Thank you!
nicely done
Thank you!😁✌🏼
Very nice video build of this airplane turboprop Me 410 thats a luftwaffe airplane aircraft. Of the Luftwaffe German Air force. Its your first luftwaffe plane modelling together.
Thanks for the comment Neil! Don’t think this one is a turboprop though!✌🏼
Thanks for sharing
No problem! Hope you enjoyed it✌🏼😁
I think those shrouds are for night fighting so the exhaust flame doesnt get spotted?
Oooo yes that would make a lot of sense! Thanks for the comment✌🏼
So it doesn't blind the aircrew.......
The exhaust shrouds were added to hide any flame exiting the ehaust, which made it more difficult to visually spot the aircraft. particularly at night.
Thank you very much for the facts!! Really makes sense now.. feel a little stoopid!🤣🤙🏻
Very nice work. Looks like a nice kit. You mention the wing camo being hard edged, was it actaully like this on the 410, or was it like many Luftwaffe aircraft and was soft edged?
Thank you! I believe the wings had more of this splinter camouflage which is notoriously very sharp. I might be wrong but I believe on the whole sharpness was key here!😁
Hey I have gotten this set for my birthday and I am very exited to make it, the only problem is that I have to use a pain brush for my models, I am also kind of new to it as well, so if you could give me some tips that would be great thanks!
My advice for you mottling is to get a plastic bottle and paint it light blue then practice thinning your paint down with low air pressure. spend at least about 5 hours or even more, because you have a lot of overspray what spoils it, practice makes perfect, but well done.
Thank you very much for the suggestion! Looks like I know what I’m doing with my weekend… painting bottles! I’ll let you know how I get on😁✌🏼
Great Build. The real shame of modelling these days is the omission of the swastika, this was on the rear stabiliser of every Luftwaffe aircraft of the Nazi era. Only an opinion, but to hide the truth is worse than facing it
Thank you very much! Yes it is a real shame, it makes the rear of the plane feel a little naked and plain?! But I guess that’s just the world we live in now.
@@machmodelsI bought a few weeks ago a decal sheet full of swastikas in various scales. You know what ? I never got attracted by nazism nor became a fascist. 🙄
You can source these from after market on line retailers.
I have a load of them. Different scales.
It's because German politicians considered model kits "toys". The Swastika is not legally depictable in Germany unless it is for artistic or historical or educational purposes.
It's not a "hiding the truth" or a "this is the modern world I guess lmao" issue at all. It's really just a case of German boomers not understanding that model kits (and video games!) are art and thus shouldn't be censored under the law against extremist propaganda symbols.
@@Blackgriffonphoenixg I agree up to a point, Airfix was a British company they were then bought out and are currently owned by Hornby also British, I also built dozens of kits through the 70's all had the Swastika not only Airfix i might add. then they disappeared. Was the West German market so large that it forced a rethink for the rest of the world? Call me what you may but to hide something makes its appeal greater, that's human nature. As i said in my 1st comment the Swastika was on almost every piece of German Nazi era equipment from spoons to the Turpitz. Leaving it off of an injection moulded kit is not going to indoctrinate anyone
Looks great❤
Thank you sir!😁✌🏼
I believe the exhaust shrouds are for night operations to mask the glowing exhaust and flames which can potentially be seen in the air by enemy interceptor aircraft
Thank you very much for the information!!😁
Oh my god they've done it
They sure as hell have!😁
Very cool tutorial. 🖌
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it✌🏼😁
Are there any 410s still flying? Because that is a very handsome aircraft.
I don’t believe there are any flying to my knowledge :)
guys you need to trye the new pinsel from tamiya ultra finde brush this 1 millimeter tip is amazing ! for little nops and buttons. :)
I will have a look!! Thanks for the suggestion😉
Almost bought the italeri one, so glad there’s a better one
Phew! Yes I think this one tops it definitely😁
Nice build, was wondering how this kit went together compared to the Italeri kit
Thank you! I wish I could comment but I’m not sure how they compare!✌🏼
that looks lovely !!!! right up my street German Aircraft !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you very much! I’m sure you’ll love this kit if you like anything German✌🏼
@@machmodels i absolutley love German Aircraft !!! Mach with a passion , just a shame its 1/72 my eyes are not the best these days and i struggle a bit , loads of good kits in 1/72 but i try and get the same in 1/48 for my eyes you know , great job as always !!!! all the best Shaun.
What airbrush compressor do you use?
Hey dude! So for airbrush I use a Harder and Steinbeck Evolution and for compressor at the moment I’m using a Sparmax 620X😁
I have a question as I am a beginner. I sometimes see builders using some kind of "clay" or "putty" to hold small parts. What is that, and doesn't it leave a residue on the parts? Thank you.
So I believe you might be talking about blue tac, or white tac as another name. I can’t imagine they use anything else! Hope that helps😁
@@machmodels That looks like it would work. Thanks!!!
Honestly an Airfix-quality build of an Airfix-quality kit. Probably started and finished in what, one day?
I’m not too sure if this is a compliment or an insult… but produced in 4 days!😁
Want to get back into modelling, I have paints airbrush, glues etc but I’m quite unsure on the other things I need such as the best drill bits, toothpicks, cotton for rigging, type of washes, was wondering if there’s like a guide on what’s essential for building a model apart from glue and the model itself lol as I always see on videos people using different things, can be quite overwhelming 😂
I feel your confusion! Very similar to me about a two years ago when I was just starting out with modelling, I ended up just watching as much content as I could and trying all the different techniques that where recommended to me by the videos and sticking with the ones which worked the best with me! That being said it isn’t the most efficient way of learning how to make good models but my good friend called Tom has recently put together a huge “basics” series that has around 8 hours of content walking you all through the basics. Here’s a link to it: learn.tscalemb.com/courses/Modelkit4Beginners
@@machmodels many thanks for the reply I’ll give it a look! Cheers
X-21 Flat base is not a varnish, mate. It is a flattening agent, to flatten semi-gloss and gloss colors. The flat varnish of their range is the XF-86.
Thank you very much for the information sir!! I’ll make sure not to make the same mistake🤣😁
Be more interesting had crew been included 😮
I partially agree! But I feel like using them might’ve obscured some of the visible cockpit detail… that being said it would’ve been nice to have them included!😁
What would you recomend as my first model?
Oooo big question that!! It really depends on what you enjoy, so pick a subject that you are passionate about. For me my first was of course a spitfire because I loved watching them at airshows, always helps to give you motivation! In regards to brands you can’t go wrong with airfix starter sets or also Tamiya just because of the superb fit!! Hope this helps✌🏼
@@machmodelsthank you im gonna buy a airfix spitfire and aec matador.
Hi matey looks really really good but you’re missing just 2 decals to make it historically accurate. But other than that really good build
Haven't you mounted the joystick back to front? 😮
I might’ve… not on purpose if I have!!! My apologies😞
Great paint work. German camouflage is the most interesting of WW2.
100% it’s such a lot of fun😁
Officially the rear man on Luftwaffe planes is called bordfunker - on-board radio operator.
Oooo thank you for such an interesting fact!😁
Why did you leave the gun barrels unpainted? IE gun barrels are usually black or dark metal.
Yeeeah boiiii!
Wooooohoooooo!✌🏼
Nice model, but the clogs on the engine cowlings are wrong. They should look forward and not backwards.
Apologies for my mishap!!😁
Shrouds for night fighting so as not to spoil pilots night vision
Thanks for the information! Really appreciate it✌🏼
From what I understand compressor settings are highly dependent on things like altitude, air humidity, and paint used, so I've always taken them with a grain of salt. I still appreciate you sharing them though, they're a good starting point, particularly for beginners! Seems like a fun build, will be picking this kit up. Saw a couple of seems that were a bit glaring, and noticed your wheel wasn't on straight but well done otherwise!
I completely agree, I always let people know as a starting point but it’s all dependant on setup like you said. Sorry about the imperfections! I’m sure yours will be free of all minor cock ups!! Thanks for the comment😁🤙🏻
Ahahaha, I wish they were free of all imperfections... 🥲
Exhaust cowling almost certainly to shroud hot gasses so the pilot's night vision remained intact.
Thank you for letting me knowN
No Swastika Snowflake stupidness and reality/accuracy goes out the window despite the lovely build.
Sorry! Can’t change the rules with printing and stuff… although I did buy a sheet of the symbols yesterday so I’m gunna chuck a few on later to make it a little more accurate😁🤙🏻
🤩🤩🤩
Thank you!✌🏼😁
Классный Шершень 👍
Thank you!
Lovely
Can you try the handley page victor 1/72 scale by Airfix
I’d definitely like to! But I don’t think I can afford one of those at the minute!
Судя по количеству отзывов это будет фантастическая модель!Потому что кроме японской ,файн молдс, ничего лучше небыло!!😂🎉
Thank you for the comment!✌🏼
It's probably a flame 🔥 damper sense it is a ground attack aircraft. Its main preditor would be overhead fighters so they don't see the exhaust 😂
Thank you very much for the information!! Really appreciate it makes far more sense now🤣✌🏼
Brilliant build however it should have swastikas for accuracy
Thank you sir! I know it does feel a little off without them, shame about the new printing laws not being able to print them! Maybe they will change their minds in the future?
🤝👍👏
Thank you!😁
Inspiring stuff!
Anyone else think panel lines are a bit too heavy on modern kits? I'd rather have a smooth finish.🤷
Thank you! I somewhat agree but I think using washes enhance them potentially a little too much? Something for me to potentially work on in the future
@@machmodels Don't get me wrong, a well finished suite of panel lines like this is hard to achieve and enhances the model.
I started kit building 50 years ago, the lines on these things are magnificent, 0.5 mm or thereabouts? Amazing. But in 1/72 that's a 36mm gap, something you'll not see on a real aircraft.
I find myself hunting down old airfix, matchbox and ex frog kits. They often have fitting and shape issues but I enjoy correcting those. And the after market parts can make a fine finish.
Paul Budzik on Scale model workshop has done a couple of videos on raised and scribed panels. A lot depends on what you want but I enjoyed them
They're actually really fine and impressive on modern kits... but Airfix are still using 1980s mould tech.
I real life the panel lines on this kit are probably the finest I've seen from Airfix.
Tamiya flat base is an additive for tamiya paint to make it more matt, it’s not a flat varnish. 🤦♂️
Since I’ve posted this I’ve had many people enlighten me! Thanks dude😁✌🏼
Does the kit come with the necessary tube of filler included?
Boy oh boy, fitting looks like 1980s state of the art.. Nice build anyway!
Thank you! I’m sure you won’t need too much, perhaps not Tamiya level of fit but still easy enough! Thanks for the comment🤙🏻
