    If the martial arts world don't have to make money for living from their schools, more kids will be taught martial arts very very early all around the world. And all masters won't have to worry about close their doors because of money issues involved. What China is doing is amazing. They brought kungfu into public schools to teach all the kids. Great sport, excellent morning exercises for all of them. Love it.

    It almost broke my heart when the old master received his spear from the son. So much love for his sacrifice for the martial arts. hopefully I'll only be half as awe-faced to myself in the end.

    This is such a well done, capturing the true essence and spirit of the Shaolin Kung Fu Masters. They deserve the utmost respect and their core philosophy is to teach only to those who are “good nature and respectful.” Ironically, that due to the sworn secrecy, set limits to who they can teach is tough, because sometimes they cannot teach their own children who desperately want to learn the Art. It was good that the Master decided to teach the Japanese student who considers him a second father. In the spirit of Buddhism, things are impermanent and are constantly changing, I hope the Shaolin monks will feel more comfortable to break the tradition a bit in regarding to share more of their knowledge and skills to qualified individuals (so instead of choosing one to teach, choose 6). Also, it was heartbreaking for me to see that these Masters do not have opportunities to do what they do best, which is to teach. If they are in the US, UK, and Europe, they would have a better livelihood, and be very well respected as well if they can teach here.

    I don't watch a lot of TV here in the US but I'd bet that you could take all the TV documentaries that have "aired" in the US in the past five years and it wouldn't have as much to say as this episode 3 of this Kung Fu Shaolin series. I notice that the title is written right to left in Chinese, like: lin, shao, fu, kung. Before now, Chinese was written top to bottom, right to left. I can only say, when I studied Arabic, which is right to left, my brain got all confused, ever since then, as to up-down, right-left, before-after, but I guess that's good exercise for the brain. It jolts me out of my typical American daydream.

    The Blacksmith, Wang Ganchen should create his own RUclips channel and record all the weapons he knows how to make. It would be ashamed for those skills to die with him. I would subscribe to him so I could watch. I'm sure that after he gets back into the practice of making those weapons his skills would shine again..China should not allow those skills to disappear. Bah, mass produced junk. Hand made is where it's at.

    Just starting this third episode, thinking about the second with its stories about families, tutors, disciples: I know only the Beijing 24-stance Yang-style taijiquan, and now use Lin Sheng-jie's Qigong Baduajin and Yijin-jing to loosen up before my thrice-weekly push-ups, four mile jog and sit-ups, which use seems to have eliminated a lot of aches and pains. On one hand, it seems these many traditions which this CGTN series profiles could be consolidated rationally, by testing, etc., as the Beijing 24 is a consolidation. On the other hand, nobody in the West teaches their children anything except how to lie better, which is a contradiction in terms, as we now realize in this COVID reenactment of a minor work by Camus. To teach, to learn from someone, requires a peer relationship which was finally only known in the West among the bums on the sidewalk . . . until now, when the hierarchy all came squishing down onto that same sidewalk. Welcome to the here and now, sir dude, ma'am dude: it's a mystical moment that will consume the rest of your life. America is an island off the coast of Asia. Which coast? It's closer to the western coast. Look at a map.

      @rixdalerheptads1505 3 года назад

      Yea I don't believe this is their goal either. Especially since so many of these masters practice in private with nobody being allowed to see their skills.
      In the first episode they said Kung Fu was used by monks to have a physical break between meditation sessions, with it being basically another type of meditation. So their goal was to gain enlightenment.
      In a way it is very similar to (traditional) yoga practice, with the physical exercise only being one part of the yogi's way to reach enlightenment. But maybe just as modern yoga has lost some of this meaning, modern Kung Fu practiced by non-Monks has lost some of this deeper meaning as well.

    10:56 Shaolin is the Buddhist monastery. Does the Buddhism teaches to get angry and to scold someone? No. Buddhism teaches to spread love and kindness. By the way tiring is a natural reaction. Everyone tires after doing hard works. And everyone has different level of capability therefore some people get tired fast and some other get tired slow. What is a reason to scold in it and to get angry? Where his common sense?
    Shaolin is the Buddhist monastery in the China. And Buddhism doesn't teach to harm innocent trees to make strong to ourselves. 10 :20 To smoke cigarettes and eat nonveg that is strictly prohibited in Buddhism by Buddhist doctrines. Warrior monks have a specific role and obviously don’t have time to give special treatment to weaker people, but there’s no longer any real threat and being practiced for traditional that’s why the kids weren’t as serious, and the smoking isn’t considered offensive

The next best part of this FANTASTIC documentary series is the deep psychological influence it has on people who buy the CRAP the Communist government is milking out of some of the "participants" of this series. It is humiliating what the Chinese government has done to some of the participants in this show. It is disgraceful how one's own people use you as an instrument of their tourism and cultural agenda and try to influence the opinion of other citizens of this planet. How stupid and gullible does the Communist government of China think other people are?
