Great comparison. I’ve played EMG’s since 1985 with mainly the 85 in the bridge.
I just preferred the Alnico in the 85 and the balls. The 81 is great for recording and I still use a guitar with one fitted.
Also, with one guitar bands the 85 shines whereas with two guitar bands the 81 cuts a bit better.
The 85 is the highest output EMG as well.
The 57 is a bit of both the 85 and 81. Another favourite of mine.
Reb Beach still uses the 85 in the bridge.
    Great video 🤘👍

Well the 81is awesome but when listening again a couple days ago, I thought I maybe was a tad too bright to my taste. The 85 is a good all around option I think.

I had the Zakk Wylde EMGs installed in my Les Paul Studio about 15 years ago and I've never looked back. Then again the stock pickups weren't Gibson's best. Just today I was wondering what the difference was in the Gold and Silver EMG on the pickups. Turns out that when I had them installed, the Guitar Center tech put the 85 in the bridge. I came to you for the comparison so I didn't have to do the work myself. 😅 Cheers! Thanks so much.
