Thank you for the highlight in the video! Myself and my husband are lifelong sword competitors and we were so delighted to host the smallsword lecture and demo. ⚔️
@@Costuming_Drama OMG! I got to the video through a notification so I didn’t even see the thumbnail!!!!!! I feel so honored. Thanks again for letting me chat with you during your vlog!
I am so happy for you! My goodness, you NEEDED that evening! it seems like you have more of your sparkle back! Not that it was ever gone! I lt seems like these big events aren't as exhausting ❤. As a fellow chronic illness human, its always wonderful to see other people's symptoms lessen and life improve. ❤
the event looked like such a great time! the lectures sound interesting, the swordfighting demo looked really cool, and the dance lesson sounded like fun. I'm glad you had a good time as an attendee as well as working the event- I know all too well that that can be a rare combination.
Totally get it. I've worked several events, and you expect to work and not really have fun, even if you're doing greeting and hosting duties. You work more than you attend. Wow, that's dragging back some memories.
Noelle, your hair and makeup for the ball was stunning. You looked amazing. I'm so used to the scarf and glasses I was surprised. All the clothing at the event was lovely. ❤
That looked like so much fun! And you were glowing in the footage and visibly happy, that's so great to see :) Great to know you had a good time (and no covid!) Seems like there's lot of the Noelle energy back in the whole video, love to see that.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I had so wanted to attend but had work obligations. However, next time I will attend Gigi's event! I've been to a class of hers before and she is fabulous!
Barry Lyndon - would be fun.character to build around, or the author, hmmm, or Louisa May Alcott, or or or sigh no end of interesting persons to build a theme around. Looks like you had a Great Time! thank you for posting!
Yes for sure, although I think Gigi would probably prefer choosing people of color as that is the whole point of her non-profit! That’s why this one was about the Chevalier!
That looked so fun! I actually stopped and rewound to look at some of the amazing dresses for inspiration. And I'm glad you got a chance to wear the grunge chemise dress in proper context.
This looked like a fabulous event. The clothes were gorgeous. I first learned about the Chevalier de Saint-Georges through the BBC podcast You're Dead to Me. He was fascinating. However, one comment you made stopped me cold. You mentioned people telling you that they felt safe there. It's really sad that feeling safe in this country is something that is not a given. I'm not shocked, just sad.
it was in Seattle!? how super awesome! when I was at 2:01 in and the outside sequence made me super happy . I just love seeing people in historical costume and just wearing it with pride outside. I would love to one day go to event like this in the future especially if ever one happens again in Seattle . it looks super fun!
I need to go back to English Country dancing class. I just haven't had the energy lately. It is very fun though. I know we have a fair amount of balls down here in LA. Glad to see you grunge a la Reine dress. I really like it. Glad you had fun. I'm busy writing and revising. If you haven't started Agatha All Along, you should! SO GOOD! Finished reading The Making of Another Motion Picture Masterpiece by Tom Hanks. It's a novel about making a film. If you ever wondered what that was like, you should check it out. Took me a little while to get into it, but once I did, I really enjoyed it. Safe travels to your next event. To the end.
It looks like it was a lot of fun! I had originally planned to attend, but life happened instead. 🙃 I know what you meant by "not expecting to have fun because you're working" as I've dealt with it myself working at conventions and Ren Fairs. You're in a totally different mindset working an event vs. being an attendee and enjoyment truly does take a backseat. The people watching is great, though. 🤣
Looks like such a fun event! I noticed you said towards the end that the venue was 18th century -- I assume it did a good job of giving those vibes as a turn of the century "revival" style since there are no 18th century houses in the Seattle area. The last houses standing from the 18th century were destroyed in the late 19th century by settlers -- they were Coast Salish longhouses.
@@Costuming_Drama oh, I must have zoned out when you said that, sorry. I have the long covid brainfog. That makes my comment seem very heartless, which I didn't mean. I shall rephrase- I'm glad you enjoyed it nevertheless and are now much recovered and didn't catch covid again
I’m so happy for you and your friend Gigi on her event! It looked like so much fun and educational at the same time 😊 I work as a hostess at a bar and your reasoning why playing bouncer for the photographer was enjoyable, is why I like my job so much 😂
Hi! Long time watcher and enjoyer of learning, and I’m new to historical/historically inspired costuming. What a beautiful event that was! I only just learned about it about a week before happening, and I was bummed to know that I couldn’t go for many reasons not the least of which being that I don’t have costuming for that era (yet). I’m so looking forward to the next one! Hoping on hope that there is another while I still live in the Seattle area for such a short while. 🤞🤞
That does look like a lot of fun. Glad it went well and that you had fun. Also glad you didn't catch the modern plague while you were there. I totally get the 'find my place' mentality. Most of the conventions I've attended have been as working some position. It's nice to have a place where you can go during down time that is flexible enough to let you see and do what you really want to.
If Gigi is taking nominations for next year, may I suggest Émilie du Châtelet? She was a French mathematician and natural philosopher and most known for translating Newton’s Principia Mathematica into French. Her
I’m of the opinion that even if you are participating in running a event in some way you should enjoy it wether it is the joy on others faces, the costumes or just the atmosphere
I got jumpscared seeing my emotionally manipulative ex Chris/PrinceofSnarkCosplay on the left side of the screen at 2:53 noooooo 😭🫠 Tried to continue on but he was in the dance practice, too, and I had to stop watching the video when I realized my hands were shaking? Oof. I’m sorry I couldn’t finish the video! It looked like it was a great event!
Thank you for the highlight in the video! Myself and my husband are lifelong sword competitors and we were so delighted to host the smallsword lecture and demo. ⚔️
You guys were awesome! Thank you so much for doing that!!
Omg an 18th Century Ball? Such fun!
