You know what, I love the small detail of Korra treating the kids like grandkids. She plays with them, listens to them, and communicates with them on that weird grandparent level. And the kids treat her like that too. She’s not just a big sister, they listen to her, and do what she says. It’s a reminder of that connection to Aang, and that he isn’t really gone. The kids still have their granddad around. It’s such a nice connecting detail~
I’ve seen fan theories on other LoK videos that Korra used the Avatar State to give Aang a chance to play with his grandkids. Could be something to it, I guess.
@@StrangerForever85 that's canon for me. Since the connection to a previous avatar is stronger on his shrine and places important to him on his life, using the Avatar State on Air Temple Island is probably a direct line connecting to Aang.
01:23 that hurt, man. I wonder how often she thought about the times her and Sokka were throwing snowballs at each other during their childhood at the Southern Watertribe...
All of Aang's kids are perfect. Each representing one of the original trio. Tenzin the responsible and explosive like Katara, Bumi the smart and goofy like Sokka and Kya the calm, collected, sweet and fierce like Aang.
I’ve a theory that bumi, was blessed in his karma to be Aangs son - Aang recognizing his friend being remanifested with the other part of his karma. Bumi did have a bit of a problem with Aang disappearing but remained a youthful and supportive being to the avatar. I wouldn’t be shocked if Bumi had more karma to go through with understanding what it is like to actually get bending all of a sudden; the sudden air bending. Then had to revisit what it be like to experience life and the dangers with the avatar within the youthful parts of danger, I.e being within the storyline with Korra and of course his siblings. A revisit to what it would truly be like to be unprepared for battle especially with when he got his abilities. It is a theory of mine, if it makes since
And also a great naivety of Aang. The culture of the Air Nomads went beyond airbending. Bumi wasn't an airbender, but that couldn't prevent him from learning the other stuff. The rituals, food recipies, clothing, festivals and so on. Learning and helping teach that to other generations. Aang was so stuck on his duty to restore the Air Nomads he forgot he could share the burden with a non-bending son to teach him to be a teacher of that culture. And he taught Tenzin to be exactly like that.
I honestly think That Aang tried to teach kya and bumi Airbender philosophy but they weren't interested. I mean you see how bumi just undercuts Tenzin's lessons to korra heck even when Bumi got Airbending he still didn't care about anything Tenzin was saying half the time
It must have been tough for Aang on top of his traumas. None of his kids are like him. So he must have felt so isolated with the responsibility of preserving his culture, being a parent, and the Avatar at that. It's a shame his kids had to suffer for this. I really wish he could have gotten to meet his grandkids I think it would have given him great closure.
Add to this the fact that Aang didn't exactly grow up in a normal family structure. The Air Nomads raised their children collectively- they give their children to the temple monks or nuns to raise, rather than the kids living with their parents. The closest thing Aang had to a parent was Monk Gyatso, but after he was recognized as the Avatar the monks wanted to separate them so he could start his training, which resulted to him running away and later getting trapped in the iceberg. He was only twelve at the time, so he was basically an orphan for most of his life.
@@agentrikamcgeeWell Katara is there to meld the family together. And it shows how everyone is gentle towards their mother. And the spirit realm incident only happened because each of the siblings had strong affection towards another and to their father. All of them were burdened for being the children of the Avatar who saved the world, let alone their mother should be known as the greatest water bender of her time. Tenzin is carrying the burden of becoming the Air Nomad's hope of revival before the harmonic convergence. Bumi became an admiral of the republic city and he's a non-bender. Kayah was more free spirited but I think she's under her mother's tutelage so she's probably carrying the burden of becoming a successful healer for the water tribes.
Honestly, the line Katara gives to Tenzin about "spending time with your siblings" hits even harder when you find out the very sad and horrifying truth about Sokka.
@@ActuallyPeirutheir father, Aang always preferred their younger brother because he was an airbender, and aang wanted to desperately bring back airbenders to the world.
While it’s sad that Aang died when he was just in his 60s I try to look at it more positively: He and Katara had about 50 years together as a happy couple, which is alot.
You know I can’t say I’m shocked that Aang showed favoritism towards Tenzin the moment he showed air bending skills. He's an admiral so he's a master of warfare and ships/machineries. So he definitely learns all of these from Sokka especially when both of them are non-benders and they have to rely on their ingenuity.
It make sense though. He would have been under a lot of pressure to turn Tenzin into an airbender and he still had all the avatar business to deal with.
the only thing i wouldnt see Aang doing that they did here is being an irresponsible father and just have a favored one, he was extremely rational as well he would never had that many children he barelly aloud himself to love katara....
Yeah let’s bring the guy who literally killed the moon back to the physical world. It was years ago, he’s probably a changed man now despite still proclaiming that he wants to find and destroy the avatar. I’m sure it’ll be fine.
Might not be what they wanted for whatever reason If we get kinda bleak about it we can say that being that kyoshi was very devoted to her work and how much the warriors and the island itself revered her than maybe their warriors, since they are all female, were made so that they could never have children themselves so that they were always devoted to their work like kyoshi. Possibly only picking the strongest females from their island to be trained and than later made baren.
I don't think they wanted to mention it. Like other characters could have had children but they didn't want to mention it. I mean Sokka barely appears. Besides flashbacks. It sad in itself. Katara did address that her brother and many of their friends were gone. So Suki also passed away.
I don't really think that's possible, tbh. We know Aang and Katara started their family early, as we see in a family photo of the siblings as kids. We also know Korra is 17 by Book One, while Aang died at 66. And of course Katara can only have kids for as long as hasn't started menopause (usually age 50 for us). So even if they started their family later in life, it still puts a limit to how young Kya and her sibs would be by Korra's time. Between all these facts, Kya's age in the series makes perfect sense.
