Ironically, Hakoda told Sokka to watch over his sister, and then Sokka admitted Katara was pretty much his mother figure.

I just realized that the new air benders are more diverse than the other nations. The air bending abilities were giving to a bunch of random people from different backgrounds and now they’re all together.
