    I remember my first time but with a rigid low loader (28t)
    Yes its nerve racking but ok once you done it once.When i was doing low loader work we used to take pavers and rollers on a job in Angelsea and we took machine on class one and class two and to save fuel we used to put the class two in the artic for the return journey!
    Recovering a fully loaded broken down artic is much more of a challenge but quite fun.I did motorway free recovery for a year a long time ago but left due to my Daughter been so young and i was away for weeks at a time.
    I personally would have put the front chain as you did but slack then reverse the truck very gently until i could feel it tighten then tighten the rear chain then undo the rear then just unhook the front👍

      Was definitely less nervous taking it off that putting it on.
      Makes sense with the fuel saving, I've seen a few companies doing it.
      Good tip about reversing the truck, I've done it with the rollers and JCBs.

      @@AshleyHaleUKits like everything it gets easier the more you do it 👍 It ensures the chains are tight.I used to chain machines towards each other unless there was potential for damage but yes its a good way.We ised to have metal on the ramps so i used to place rubber mats down (old conveyor belts) when loading rollers👍

    Nice one Ash. Must have had your heart in your mouth trying to get up that ramp. Would you be better chaining across the deck rather than straight? Just thought it might give you better lateral security and maybe give you more room for the tensioners at the front. I'm certainly no expert but I think that's how I've seen it done before.

      I did think crossing them, but the space is so tight underneath it seemed just as hard to get to.
      Very rarely do we cross the normal machines I deliver because of the size a shape.
      It's worth a thought though if I have to do it again.

      And it was a bit heart in mouth moment when your going up the ramp. You spend so much time concentrating on one side you have to hope the others ok

    hey ash, wondering, is there any trick to reversing steerable trailers? im going to try and become a driver soon, but thats something i cant get down in all the simulators. it feels too weird

    • @AshleyHaleUK
      @AshleyHaleUK  3 месяца назад +3

      We've got 1 trailer that the rear axel steers on. When you select reverse it's stops moving once it's straight.
      Other than that I've not had much experience with them. I know truckin around with Johno has used a few, might be worth messaging him

    The chains are more than adequate for this may have been easier to use straps around the wheels instead, all look good though, maybe fold the mirrors in next time saves them getting knocked

    • @AshleyHaleUK
      @AshleyHaleUK  3 месяца назад +1

      We don't use straps for anything other than the ramps. I should get some really just incase

    • @rosey3633
      @rosey3633 2 месяца назад

      You're far better off using chains, strapping the wheels without the slings the straps can slip off the tyre.

      @@cjosh2883 it would all depend on where in the country you would do your training.
      Ok not sure how it works with international drivers not from the EU. You would have to contact the DVLA our licencing agency for the best advice.
