Viberg work boots are impressive from a structural perspective. Heavy on the function over form so maybe not pretty but the quality of materials and construction are impressive.
For $250 the Thorogood 1892 series Tomahawk from Weinbrenner is an excellent boot for the money. And you're getting Horween Chromexel for that money too.
@@stephenathon That's a real shame. They're still in stock a lot of places, and I just bought mine back in January. They are / were an extremely underrated boot. New surplus stuff is usually more high tech with a PU midsole and a cemented construction, but I've been able to find good deals on ''obsolete' vintage boots like the Steinkogler Feldschuh Schwer which has a triple stitched welt, triple leather midsole. The Swiss mountain boots, and Swedish M59 boots also look quite high quality.

Don't see it mentioned in the below comments, so I will add in. The Red Wing mocs come on two different lasts. The 1907 and 8883 designs you are are the newest design in the roomier 45 last. This allows them to include one of their leather insole inserts. They only come in two versions of their Rough and Tough leather. Not trying to poop on Thursday as I’m sure they make other great boots but I bought a pair of Captains in brown and was disappointed with the leather quality. Vamp on left boot was creasing completely differently and creating weird grain break than the right shoe. Not upset but you get what you pay for. A lot of people would be better off spending a bit more on Grant stones or get the presidents with the adobe leather which looks better when worn in.
I have no experience with Thursday's chrome leathers, but I was pleasantly surprised with their "rugged and resilient" stuff. My captains in adobe have been put through the ringer and the only thing I've had to do after a year and a half was glue the tips of the soles because they started delaminating a little bit. I have managed to almost wear through the kevlar blend laces, but the leather on the boots is still in great shape. Those boots won't last for decades, but for the price and less work oriented style I've found them to perform admirably.

Ranch Road 100% for that $350+ you pay, you're getting a serious deal. If you like pull on style boots, cowboy boots, engineer boots, it really doesn't get much better.
As a South African. I thought I'd help you with the pronunciation of the word "vellie" by giving you the phonetic spelling. I have noticed that you are aware of the mispronuciation. The phonetic spelling would be ''fallee'' the ''a'' sound is the same as in apple. I hope it helps.
Is anyone familiar with Txture boots that Carl mentions in this video? I really like the style of their boots! The thing I'm worried about when it comes to ordering from outside of Europe is to get customs fees. I got hit with quite a large one when I bought a beautiful Japanese sweatshirt from Okayama Denim. I had to pay 50% of it's worth and it was around 180 dollars. Then I ordered again, but this time I asked them to lower the worth of the order, but I still got one this time as well. It was much lower this time but still very annoying. Swedish customs says that orders below 1700 Swedish Crowns is supposed to be free of fees but I still got one.
I really like my Higgens Mills and other AE boots, but then again, I don't have the extensive experience with all these other brands that Carl has. Moreover, I have never paid more than $200 for a pair of AE boots, which effectively makes them cheaper than a Thursday boot.
According to Mr. Crouch over at Jim Green, it's pronounced "Fellies," with an "f" sound, because Afrikaans is weird. Also, JG now have what they call Shoellies which are basically a lower-cut version of their Vellies. I'd rather stick with the shoe-height Shoellies or the African Rangers which I own in African Buffalo leather which are low boots. The in-between Chukka/Vellie height just doesn't work for me.
I got a pair of iron rangers almost 2 years ago. Time for a resole, but loved them so much I got the blacksmith. Use them for work (contractor) and play (motorcycle). No issue…
Kreosote 7 at 19:58 would appear to be called the “Murawski” ? One in the same? Good-on-ya, but I’m more lower end and can’t agree more with your Jim Green assessments. They are my hiking boot. I like to feel the shape of the rock under foot with more rather than a single point of contact. A great urban boot too.
For any guys watching the skincare ad - please use more sunscreen than is demonstrated! Recommended is at least half a teaspoon, minimum spf 30, reapplied every few hours with continued exposure. Just fyi...
Pronounce it felly. Short for velskoen (fellschoon), Afrikaans for skin boot. They have been for a couple of centuries the standard footwear of Afrikaans farmers, and still are today.
Thanks for putting this all together! Would you be willing or have plans to review the Jim Green Monster in the future? You introduced me to the brand and I can’t really find much on that model. I’d love to see how they stack up to the Razorback as I’m looking for a waterproof boot (wish the Razorback was waterproof).

I keep watching all these boot videos and then buying another pair, yet I never wear them because they're uncomfortable and I don't want to get them wet. I mean, what good are leather boots if you can't get them wet?
Great video Carl, this is pretty much a guide to buying boots and if I'm lucky enough I'll end up having enjoyed wearing most of the boots you mentioned. One boot company that caught my attention was the Junkart boot company. I own a pair of Junkart boots in waxed flesh and I simply love them. The level of craftsmanship for the price is fantastic and their customer service is unmatched by any of their competitors. I own many of the boots you've mentioned and this is one company I'm really glad you mentioned. As for Viberg , I don't see too much value there considering I love my Nick's boots and they're two thirds the price of a Viberg. I'm looking forward to your Wesco review though, especially since you mentioned that they were the best finished boots amongst your PNW boots. Cheers and Kudos for another blockbuster video.
Great video and your content is damn good, keep up the great work. Tier 2 Thursday boots, man… those things last…. I have had 3 different pair between the $200 and $300 and all have held out for the last 3 years. Seriously worth it and yes used everyday and not only for going out - but also in the wood shop (take a beating and a quick buff and back to clean). Tier 4 Red Wings Iron rangers. All around best option for work and Motorcycle riding, 4 years of wearing the same 2 sets and still have about another 2-3 years (yes in the wood shop too when doing heavy work)…

Why was Alden left off? Are they over priced now or just forgotten?
BTW, I've got a pair of Spruce Kudu Parkhurst. I LOVE THEM! They look so GOOD. Great boot.
I’ve heard nothing but good things!
I wore a pair of Thursday Boots Captain Arizona Adobe, everyday for a week in Budapest, never had an issue and actually had some locals where I got purchased the boots, can't say enough about them, I highly recommend them
Ranch Road 100% for that $350+ you pay, you're getting a serious deal. If you like pull on style boots, cowboy boots, engineer boots, it really doesn't get much better.
Surprised to not see taft on this list, especially with a easier return policy. And lower price with the final sale
Thank you for adding them though!
I scanned the comments and didn’t see anyone mention origin boots. They seem like a great up & coming boot and apparel company.
Trickers anybody?
This is probably geared towards Americans. Trickers, C&J, Solovair etc are great options at different price points across the pond.
Allen Edmonds Higgins Mill or Alden
Indy
Great addition!
I really appreciate the effort you put into your content. Have a great day!
Do you have any strong feelings on the Higgins Mill boots that Allen Edmonds makes?
I really like my Higgens Mills and other AE boots, but then again, I don't have the extensive experience with all these other brands that Carl has. Moreover, I have never paid more than $200 for a pair of AE boots, which effectively makes them cheaper than a Thursday boot.
*Higgins FYI
@@stephenathon thanks
The bit at the end was cool, why pay all this money if you’re not going to wear your boots? That’s why I don’t baby my iron rangers.
No issue…
i'm watching this video two years later and Sagara boots have DOUBLED in price for their monkey boots.
Just fyi...
I've been trying to get boots in New Zealand that don't cost 60+USD to ship. Or in redwings case, ship here at all. Any thoughts?
Outstanding video! Tons and tons of information. Great job Carl. I am curious if you have heard of Helm and any feedback.
Pronounce it felly. Short for velskoen (fellschoon), Afrikaans for skin boot. They have been for a couple of centuries the standard footwear of Afrikaans farmers, and still are today.
Onderhoud - you almost got it right. Pronounced onder-hoat. A form of Dutch very similar to Afrikaans. The word means maintenance.
One brand you didn’t mention, Allen Edmunds (on sale). They have good styling and are very comfortable.
Yes sir, definitely coming!
@@CarlMurawski awesome! That’s great news…looking forward to it
i started to get into boots in the last couple years i have a decent boot collection 6 pair of thursday boots, 3 pair of taft boots a pair of helm, i tried John Doe boots next i did the buy 2 get 1 free made to order deal, i was very disapointed with john doe. i love all the other boots that i have and would order again. i will never buy john doe boots again, and regret spending the money on them in the first place
Pronounced felly. Short for velskoen (felskoon), skin boot. Beloved of Afrikaans farmers for centuries.
I keep watching all these boot videos and then buying another pair, yet I never wear them because they're uncomfortable and I don't want to get them wet. I mean, what good are leather boots if you can't get them wet?
Flame Panda’s are better made than John Lofgren, so move them up a level. Put Clinch in the mix right behind White Kloud.
RUclips ads suck. He said nobody likes floppy things.. can't they just be normal ads
Nicks handmade boots, check them out, they’re awesome!!
I don't even know how to get to the foreign websites. I google it and nothing comes up. Do I have to use a different search engine or something?
JK boots in Spokane are really nice boots and quite the American Dream story behind the scene.
Anyone else having trouble finding Stafford boots online? Are these boots still being sold?
The Mil Tec WW2 service boot repros have a good reputation for sub 200Buck boots
No love for Beckett Simonon? They make great shoes and boots.
All around best option for work and Motorcycle riding, 4 years of wearing the same 2 sets and still have about another 2-3 years (yes in the wood shop too when doing heavy work)…
I would not recommend work boots for a motorcycle riding. There are completely different areas of protection for motorcycle accidents
I have the Clarks bushacre and have used them a ton. Great inexpensive chukka boots
Carl what you said at the end... priceless. One love dear man. x
Gotta try a Viberg;)
Hey Carl, I just bought a suit. Who makes good high quality and comfortable dress shoes? Preferably usa made and reasonably priced.
Allen Edmonds for MiUSA. Grant Stone for comfort and quality though only a couple dress styles.
Truman is definetly a brand i'm looking to. i'll probably get a pair of their boots. the hard part is choosing the different leathers cause they've got an amazing selection.
Totally a brand I slept on in this video!
Great information and great advice at the end much love
Thank you!
Anything over $300 and that value proposition is no more. I think that's the sweet spot
would you recommend the timberland 6" premium for work
Why aren't all the modeling pictures of you? Especially in those short shorts!
vibergs are like 1200 here in Canada id already have a pair 700 is much easier to look at lol
How does it work from Indonesia from the UK do you have to pay taxes?
