My dad flipped the floor of the trunk and revealed two more seats facing backwards. One of the best memories of my childhood are the Autobahn drives we made as a Family and the kids in the trunk waved to cars overtaken with 250 km/h ... Best Family car ever.
The SUVs all look the same. A Bently drove passed me today on a back road and I felt nothing. Not even a giggle. Seeing Ben Affleck in a Dunkin Donuts parking lot on the Cape last summer was more exciting.
As someone who is tall and has a bad back, SUVs are AMAZING. Always enough space, room when I need it, but also every time I get in or out it's not an ordeal. In a lower sedan, I may be comfortable when driving, but getting UP out of the car, or lowering DOWN into it hurts. It's not an enjoyable experience.

mrmoran0077 it’s not even that I don’t like the look of the C8. I think it’s a great looking car but the thing I loved about the RS3 right up to the RS7 was they were stealthy. Went to a five-star resort in upper New Hampshire for fall foliage earlier this year. Checking in was one of these wagons, perfect all the way down to emblem delete so there was only a three-pointed star. It was a lady in her mid-forties driving it. Classy, well proportioned and fit, dressed impeccably and reserved. She matched her car perfectly. If the lottery in life hit my bank account, you can bet your butt I'd be at the Mercedes dealer ordering mine. With the emblem delete option. If you've got money, this is a perfect car in so many ways. If you don't, there is something aspirational for you that is both practical and outrageous. I just wish they put this engine in their AMG GT, that would be the other car in my garage for all the impractical reasons of a wideass car like that!
Got mine in the Factory Delivery program at Stuttgart. On the Autobahn and on the track, this car is supreme. You should also have been driving in S+ mode... higher revs and more active downshifting.
I would take this in a heartbeat. I'm 28 and could barely afford my Golf R with nearly 10 years of saving. But my god do I want one of these. If only it had a manual...
@ThroughFallenEyes Put 50.000 into stocks for 8% dividends and pay the monthly rates from dividends. Let run a 4-year-contract and change the car all 4 years. Maybe you have to pay 5.000 in advance all 4 years, but thats all, the rest should cover the dividends. My sister once wanted to buy a C-Class for 20.000. With 4.000 in advance it would have been 200 a month or 2400 a year. Easy to cover with stocks.
Rhanier Santiago We have the E53 wagon in Canada. My heart tells me the V8 is irreplaceable. However, realizing even my VW Sportwagen can quickly get me to illegal speed, I’m starting to think that for much less money, the E53 fills many boxes! I also find the inline 6 drivetrain intriguing.
Great video, thank you!! The station wagon is by far my most favorite body style. I absolutely love what they did with the wood trim in that vehicle . In all honesty if they were more reliable I would buy one of those in a heart beat!!
great review guys, I also love the E63S (watched your GT C video too) - so nice to watch an American car reviewer(s) that I don't want to turn off after 2 minutes! :)
I agree that a wagon is better than a suv. I owed 2 e class wagons, non amgs and loved them. They both had the rear facing seats in the back. However, the one problem with the e wagon is ground clearance. I had trouble during winter time and had a block of ice rip a hole in the bottom plate. I do live in NW Ontario where the roads can get quite bad. Had winter tires and never lost traction in winter even when trying hard. Moved my entire kitchen at camp in the wagon, including sink, counter top and cupboards. Loved my wagons. Love you work especially your podcasts. Thanks
We have E400 wagon with ECU tune. We added 19" wheels 245/45/19 and 275/40/19. Ride is butter soft but controlled. Nice torque. Only wished it had the v8 sound like my E550 coupe 4.7TT.
I just missed a great deal on one...Now I think I'm gonna save a bit more for a year and get a 2019 E63 wagon. I would've been happy with my E400 for a few years until I worked up to an E63, but I'm gonna be patient and wait. I had plans to do an ECU tune to it if I got it. How's it working out for you?
they are already $70-80k. Hopefully Im gonna get one next year for around $50k. BTW, current owners, please don't abuse them and do all proper maintenance timely! )))))
I wanted a 96 Roadmaster or Caprice. I think my family conspired against me because they don't understand me. Why do you want a 25 year old car? Why do you talk about swapping a 5.3 LS engine into it? Why do you keep talking about a company called Three Pedal? Be practical, get something reliable, good on gas......blah, blah, blah. I haven't owned a car it 20 years and recently got my driver's license last year. Long story. Before I could find the perfect "Whale" to begin the long journey to create my perfect sleeper my Sister and her husband give me her 2000 Volvo V40. For free. Shit. Don't get me wrong, I am very grateful but it is all a plot to keep me from my quest to prowl the backroads and highways in the Brotherhood of Sleepers! It will unfortunately never be even close to this beautiful Panzerwagon.
Thank you so much EverydayDriver! This review never gets old! I watch it about once a week LOL!. Your enthusiasm about this wagon is so contagious! I can't wait to experience/own this ultimate parent car and bring along the BROOD!

THANK YOU for the report. When in Munich a year ago, I feel in love with wagons. Coming back here, our fixation with SUV or CUV which don't handle well and frankly gives you a kidney punch on the sides when you hit a bump, I was so sad when BMW gave up in the wagon market. I ended up with a Volkswagen Alltrack for now just because it's the last of VW's wagons in the USA and the one I got has a manual transmission. The next and perhaps final car maybe the RS6 Avant or the Mercedes.
I own a 95 Volvo 850 Wagon with 450K miles and absolutely love it! this Merc' is the only Mercedes I would ever consider . It's too bad Americans have been brainwashed by auto marketers into buying SUVS and CUVS instead of wagons . We would have more choices at lower price points.

“If only there was a $75k version of this to compete with the Suburban” , Literally the E450 Wagon which is actually still very quick at 0-60 in 4.8 or so.
For a less insane but still compelling enthusiast wagon the Jaguar XF-S Sportbrake can now be found as a CPO / Pre-owned in the $40's. That's kind of insane for how good to drive, beautiful and useful that car is.
I had this as a rental in Germany with the Drivers Package: I once cried myself to 301kp/h and lifted. The car was faster, but going almost twice the speed of everyone else (going 100 mls/h) was just too darn fast. But it was niiiiiiice!
I always liked the Cadillac CTS-V Wagon and I thought that was the only crazy powerful wagon that was also pretty luxurious but I didn't like how squared off it looks... Now I'm happy
The C63 AMG is even better. It’s smaller size and lots of power makes for an epic package. This is the only auto car I could see myself owning one day.
Wagons look great and they are still cars. They drive way more nible and are lighter that suvs. Not a fan of suvs but i also live in socal so that makes a difference. Love this video, i agree with them
In just a few weeks this AMG E63S will be the "old" version, because the facelifted new 2021 car will be introduced. With fully MBUX integration, new touchscreens, a new touchpad on the middle console, new steering wheel with bigger touch pads on it, and of course with some totally new assistance systems. With even better designed front and rear of the car and of course with the Panamericana grill.
Oh man! Ya'll were in my back yard. I recognized the Natchez Trace bridge and the Korean Veterans Bridge in downtown Nashville. The of course, North Georgia...looked like Blood Mountain. Hope you got a chance to hit Richard B. Russell scenic highway. OMG! That road is awesome. I ride motorcycles in that area regularly.
Heh.. talk-in my language lads.. Former owner of a B5 S4 Avant tuned into 330/340 bhp. Always thought the RS6 Avant would be the ‘dream’ car. But the current generation of Audi Avants have way too much geometric/angular lines (wheel design/front grilles etc). This Merc has old school smooth lines and graceful looking wheel design. As dream cars go, it would be this Merc ‘wagen’ or Alpina s diesel D5 Touring. Nice review.
I have to disagree, the AMG GT even with lower power feels much more eager to react. Feels like a different engine. Otherwise great review, love the way you guys talk. It’s so relaxing and engaging. YES
Were you in palm desert yesterday? Pretty sure I was behind you in the Starbucks drive-thru in the white BMW 2 series, while you were in this beautiful E63s wagon.
The E63 AMG and CTS-V wagons are 2 of the best cars made! Cannot stand everyone buying SUV’s nowadays! These cars have more room and better fuel economy, but with a lot more performance and fun. Yes, they’re expensive, but I wish brands made affordable wagons instead of SUV’s.
Because 1) 99% of buyers don't care about driving dynamics (or at least it's not a big priority) and b) they like being higher up. That audience is not this audience. It's very hard to teach someone to like something.
You are talking crap, buddy! "99% of buyers don't care about driving dynamics" is just your bullshit opinion! Of course a lot of people with enough money are interested in driving dynamics, even in such a "wagon" or fast SUVs. All these new high performance SUVs just prove this. But the AMG E63S models are just better high performance cars, because these cars sit lower to the ground. SUVs are just way too heavy and therefore its gas consumption is just too idioticly high. With such an AMG E63S you get the same amount of space in the rear and it's half a ton lighter than a modern high performance SUV. SUVs are just stupid vehicles, which are too heavy with too much gas consumption and with worse driving dynamics. They are just too degenerated, too unsustainable and so on... Made for women, to pack the child seats more comfortable into the car and for "sitting" higher in the car. How fucking stupid is that?
@@Porsche1969 I always hear people brag about the space in SUVs, yet I rarely see them even fill it to max capacity. Driving experience sacrificed for space that doesn't even get fully utilized 90% of the time.
Absolutely right about more people needing to buy performance wagons now! Maybe Mercedes can use that fancy new air suspension to automatically lift the car for ingress/egress to convince those who complain about ride height.
I've loved this wagon the most over the under steering Audi RS anything.. and yes the manual CTSV wagon even with a kong ported blower and 17×11 drag pack,.. these are my favorite and unfortunately extremely expensive 😣.. but I would take it over a sedan or SUV any day great video hands down!!!! Thank you for sharing
I used to drift my parents 1984 Ford Falcon GL estate car around several strategically placed roundabouts in Canberra during the late 80's. I would destroy the tires on that Merc if I got my hands on it.
I live in Germany, here the Wagon is the Norm people rarely buy the sedan variant of a car although SUV are piling up real quick here too...but the wagons live
Now that it has the 9 Speed and all wheel drive does it out run the RS6 now? The two wheel drive with 7 speed gets handed in stock form by the RS6 because the transmission is better, and of course the all Quattro drive.
Subcompact and compact CUVs are adored by women as they sit higher and feels a sense of security. I can’t tell you how much my wife hates sitting in a normal sedan now.
When i was a kid, my father bought an E500 T-Modell. We were 4 kids in the family. We waited on the street and when my dad arrived my mom shouted that there is no space for 6.

Fast Wagon FTW!!! Best car ever!
If this was under $80,000, I WOULD buy this!!!
I test drove one of these (same color) cars moved out my way. What a beast. Depreciation is terrible on these cars though
I thought that road looked very familiar and then you said "Atlanta meetup" and I knew exactly which road you were driving on.
SJW Maniac noticed the same.
I have a 2018 E63 wagon, so I might be a little biased, but the facelift doesn’t look as good, especially the headlights.
Caarac I can agree that it doesn’t look as good but its not ugly
Sadly this new facelift is muted and not as attractive as the original pre facelift model.
If i had a family and didn't have other cars, id buy this in a heartbeat! These things are so bad ass
Heh.. talk-in my language lads..
The wagon love is why once I can afford a third car I’d kinda like to get a SRT8 Magnum.
I have to disagree, the AMG GT even with lower power feels much more eager to react. Feels like a different engine. Otherwise great review, love the way you guys talk. It’s so relaxing and engaging. YES
No the RS6 wagon is also here. Decisions decisions.
Imagine the face of a SRT driver when your station wagon whoops his butt, priceless
Love this car. Total family hauler!
Is this the 2021? It's never stated.
I can say my E500 wagon is a wonderful thing. So much better than an SUV, and incredibly fun for a car.
It's too bad only automotive journalists like us and then some like this platform :(

Hey folks, check out his channel!
I live in Germany, here the Wagon is the Norm people rarely buy the sedan variant of a car although SUV are piling up real quick here too...but the wagons live
Wagons should make a reemergence, simply because it is more fuel efficient for wagons than SUVs
How does it handle in bumper to bumper traffic? Just curious.
Man that amg wagon looks so sexy in black with those black wheels
Nobody :
SUV and CUV drivers : i like to sit up high
Love this car. About to buy one!
Wagons are the best--my favorite style.
I wish you guys reviewed the x166 GLS 63 and GLS 550 2017-2019
Do they offer New Crayon Smell for the hockey puck spritzer?
Now that it has the 9 Speed and all wheel drive does it out run the RS6 now?
The two wheel drive with 7 speed gets handed in stock form by the RS6 because the transmission is better, and of course the all Quattro drive.
Fantastic vechice. A dream for all. From Brazil.
You should’ve just wrote “The Ultimate Car”
Subcompact and compact CUVs are adored by women as they sit higher and feels a sense of security. I can’t tell you how much my wife hates sitting in a normal sedan now.
You guys are hilarious! That’s a beautiful car. Excellent video!
