The problem with using rock climbers as test subjects to see if an orangutan can climb out of an enclosure is that orangutans are 10x better climbers than any human even with climbing gear.

@FrankBlaskovich there really is. I've personally been to at least 2 zoos that have allowed them to roam freely. It's not exactly a big deal seeing as peacocks are not aggressive and aren't able to do much harm even if they do become aggressive

Y'know, there was a peacock in Philadelphia who had a similar story.
The peacock exhibit had no top, since the zookeepers had assumed peacocks couldnt fly.
They were... mostly right, but this one fella was able to loop around in his pen, and gain enough airtime to go OVER the walls. She then proceeeded to just... explore. Nobody was attacked, no property damage. She just looked other cages, and sat down near the monkeys to watch them go. She was found trying to get back in her pen once the keepers got to her.
She had done this a couple times before, apparently, with slightly more violent results. She just knocked everything nearby down.
A true girlboss.
Probably helps that it was a female. Male peacocks are weighed down by their heavy tail feathers and fly much less.
where i live they let peacocks in the zoo just kinda vibe with the park guests. they arent in enclosures just walk around freely

The fact that Ken not only learned about the zookeeper’s patterns so he could create and execute escape plans, but also wasn’t escaping to cause harm to anyone (except for Otis 😿) shows how intelligent these animals can be

It is actually Ken last magnum opus, he developts the cancer himself so he can escape the cage forever, the one trick that even Harry Houdini himself to afraid to use. But we are talking about The Hairy Houdini, the plan works perfectly and he is not just out of the cage but also the whole zoo, which is even more than he expected.

Orangutans really are extremely intelligent animals. During my college years I worked at a wildlife park in Borneo one summer, it had semi-wild Orangutans that roamed freely, but they were so use to humans they might as well have been tame. I ran a small stand where we sold tourists drinks, snacks etc. Noticed one day an orangutan seemed to be interested and stood there for a couple hours just watching people pay money and get snacks. I hear someone at the counter, turn around to see this Orangutan plop a pile of leaves on the counter, look at me and point toward the snacks. It was obvious he had figured out the concept that he could trade "pieces of something" for food and drinks. (and yes, I handed him some fruit juice and crisps, hey I figured if he had figured out the concept of commerce and money he deserved that much).
Which Wildlife Park...??? Is it Semenggoh Nature Reserve in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia in the island of Borneo...???

This is why i'll never go to a zoo ever again. The Orang Utan just wanted to be free but they captured him and put him back into his cage and when he got sick they killed him. People paid money to see him and none of that will ever go to ken. Zoo's are just prison for the animals

Not really, they are solitary animals and have one of the slowest reproduction cycle in nature (one offspring every 8-10 years), and infants are dependant on mum anywhere from 6 - 8 years. They just want to chill on treetops and eat fruit, their lives are spend foraging and nesting; they are the gardeners of the rainforest.
Chimpanzees would probably be my guess, they have very complex social structures, are quite violent (and omnivorous), and are social apes. Gorillas and Bonobos are social too, but they are much chiller as well; so chimpanzees would essentially replace humans if they want to spread out of Africa.

one of our (former) orangutans at adelaide zoo also escaped, and later she returned of her own volition lol. coincidentally she was born in san diego and ohh boy just searched her up, her one surviving offspring was sired by her OWN FATHER, who happens to be OTIS

I worked on a horse ranch where the horses were kept in by electric fences. The horses would put their whiskers up to the wire to tell if it was on or off. The one who was most committed to escaping, Priscilla, would touch it to test how high it was turned up. If it was lowered or weakened she’d run through it.
