This is what I love about this band. They are so thought provoking. If you take the time to try to understand what they try to tell you. And give you the freedom to do thou without pressing it on you. Great reaction. With love from Germany
There are references to the German children's TV show "Sandmännchen" (little sandman) that told the children that it is now time to go to sleep but before he tells a nice animated story. It started with the first and third line of the Rammstein lyrics "Nun liebe Kinder gebt fein acht, ich hab euch etwas mitgebracht." (Now dear children pay good attention, I have brought you something ...) Of course those stories were not scary. In German the "burning heart" can have two meanings, first enthusiasm or love for something or someone and second being very sad, depressive, or traumatized. In this case it is surely the second meaning. As far as I remember it from the making off, the location was a former orphanage. For this song - I assume - there are as many interpretations as listeners. So here is only my personal interpretation, not something from the "Rammstein University". ;-) The song is clearly about nightmares. But it has also references to child abuse. E.g. in West-Germany in the 60th and 70th there were so called "Kindererholungsheim" (children's convalescent home). Parents - in a large scale - were told that their children seemed to be sickly and some weeks in those institutes would be good for them. The health insurance paid for it. In fact, it was just a big business where children were "stored" at minimal cost. There was also plenty of physical and psychological violence and many children came back traumatized. (A lot of them are still suffering from this "experience".) As the members of Rammstein came from East-Germany, I'm not sure whether there were similar kind of cases in their environment which was even more restrictive than that in the west. From this perspective Till's role in the song/video seems to be a mixture of demon and victim in the same character. Like those children coming back from those "Kindererholungsheim", still carrying the demon (trauma) with them.
The demon was not defeated he went back down into the underground of awareness because it is dawn when we awaken. He sings until dawn when our eyes open existing in the unconscious waiting for sundown when we again close our eyes to sleep where he returns walking in the shadows where we have no control. Till created a musical theatrical psychological masterpiece
Rammstein had chosen the Spanish photographer Eugenio Recuenco as director for the video shoot because he did the cover photos for the Liebe ist für Alle da album and the band was very happy with him. Unfortunately, the band was not so happy with his music video, so they decided to have the video reworked by their favorite director Zoran Bihać. Eugenio Recuenco was not very pleased about this and was very angry with the band. Rammstein allowed him to publish his version of the video and he calmed down. If you google "Eugenio Recuenco Mein Herz brennt", you will find the third video for this song.
The song is inspired from the tale the Sandman by E T A Hoffmann. You got quite right but in the end the démon is not defeated he just go back to the cellar until the next night
you need to watch the making of of this video! I think it´s about child abuse in a Klinik and the Nurse helped not the Children. Till was one of the Children, now grown up.
@@Zippythewondersquirrel jeez, makes you wonder what they were up to in swimming training to get cuts like that, no wonder Till left, yes, I heard several stories about his Olympic career, including been kicked out for buying porn mags which is my fav story
If I'm not incorrect they still haven't told anyone what the song is about, but my mother mentioned how it could be about a true story, that happenned in germany relating to a mental asylum, that abused it's patients including the children, but i don't know, great reaction, love the fact you react to both, and get subtitles to understand the lyrics, that's some nice effort, we appreciate 🥂
Great reaction video! My perception of the sandmann is different though. He is not making me angry but scared and sad. He seems to be sorry (his heart is burning) for what he has done (btw. stealing the tears at night isn't much of a crime, is it? No one gets hurt), but you wouldn't want to hug that sandmann either. He is doomed!
Well, you are right. He is the Sandman and it is about Nightmares. And, ALL their videos tell a story. Their first once are from the middle of the 1990s, so no modern "special effect", but I still love them. Have a look at "Du Riechst so Gut 1998", you will be blown away! Maybe, you can do it in this way. Where videos are existing, you should do at first the music Video, then the "making of" and at the and the live version of it. I am sure, you might get even more views. Just give it a try and you will see. And with today I am also a new subscriber. I confess, that I always need some time, because there are some out, which to it for clicks, but then they stop doing reactions after they have "enough" or something like this. Since I found it out, I always wait a bit, but I can really see, that you love the band. Thank you for this reaction and enjoy your weekend. ❤
In the context of the song, 'blackmail' (erpressen) makes more sense than 'squeeze' (pressen), as he has the persuasive power to force the eyelids either open or close, with 'squeeze' he would actively do that. But about the tears into the veins, I think 'push', 'inject' or even 'shoot' is better than 'press'
Nice reaction, thanks! People will always have different opinions on the meaning of the song. Actually, the video strongly affects the way you interpret it - just see the Eugenio Recuenco's version metioned by @tosa2522 and you will see how different the feelings are. For me, this might be on child abuse. Children here are scared, exploited and defenceless - and only thing they can do is put the emotionless masks on, so that everything seems to be "normal". Yet when they grow up, they still are defenceless - they can't cope with the outer world just like cavemen put into current society, panicked and spoiled till the very end.
You should also react to this one, it was meant to be the original version, but the band didn’t like it. Personally, I don’t blame them. All of the images are beautifully shot, but for me, they don’t tell or a story or connect properly with the music. ruclips.net/video/CCr45kd6w9c/видео.html
There was nothing that can´t be shown! Freedom for art!
This is what I love about this band. They are so thought provoking. If you take the time to try to understand what they try to tell you. And give you the freedom to do thou without pressing it on you.

I've just got back from budapest to see them....the most awesome show i've ever seen!!!
You got to watch the video “Zeit”

Awesome.. check out the official version of Deutschland for a trip through German history 👍

You'll like Angst too, official video.
while both videos are epic and if you force me to choose, it's the piano version all the time..btw those cuts on Till are real I believe
Till got the cuts when he was training for the Olympics swimming team in east Germany. They enhanced them.
@@Zippythewondersquirrel No. They are a mixture of old self harm scars, enhanced for the video, and new cuts for the video.

Can you react to "Waidmanns Heil" (live from Madison Square Garden) please?

That's not just makeup...real cuts on his arms..chest and face... RAMMSTEIN and Till never disappoint

Te falto la versión en vivo
Blackmail is the wrong translation, riight is "To squeeze".
In the context of the song, 'blackmail' (erpressen) makes more sense than 'squeeze' (pressen), as he has the persuasive power to force the eyelids either open or close, with 'squeeze' he would actively do that.

Yes, he is the sandman, but he is sad he has to do that
