I think for reference you should listen to Higher, Dark Signs, Fall for Me, Missing Limbs, Granite, Aqua Regia, and Euclid… toxic/abusive relationship… an incident occurs where both parties lives are risked (my assumption is an intentional car accident) they breakup… granite is a version of clarity that he didn’t have in missing limbs… Aqua Regia he is seeing things clearly and no longer “dancing to alarm bells”… and Euclid is the culmination of finally accepting what that relationship was and to let go and move on from it.

See , I differ in my view of this whole thing. I think sleep is him. Sleep is the version of him he is trying to move away from. Similar to addiction or a person you can’t break up with. He is Eden/ the version of himself he finds in sleep/at night. Euclid is the Epiphany of him coming to terms with leaving that sleep/himself behind. I think most, if not all, the songs are addressed to himself

I think you are spot on with your interpretation

Ben recycles a lot of his lyrics. Which a lot of people think is “lazy”, but I think he’s a lyrical genius. If you go back to Saturate all the way up to this new song, he references or actually uses a lot of the same words, over and over, in different ways with different messaging. Water, tide, Heaven, Hell, life, death, hope, hopeless(used again here), arise(also here) divide, fallen, tide (also here), etc. He must have a deep tie to these elements. When he’s released Far Away with Scooter Ward, I honestly thought it was a collaboration of different lyrics from his past songs. Whatever BB creates is beautiful.

Ben told a good story a long time ago about why he never tells what his songs mean. I wish I could remember which song it was a long time ago, but a fan asked him the meaning of it, so Ben told him or her. Whatever the explanation was, it completely ruined it for the fan bc his/her interpretation was different. From then on, he never tells. Wants us to have our own interpretations, and I think that’s why his lyrics are so important to people. Ben and his guys, former and newer, have literally saved lives with their music. ❤

@ProjectJango go listen on the Love and Death album, a song called Down. BB guitarist Jasen Rauch was in that album a few years ago, and listen to the guitar in that song and this song. It’s absolute killer. That’s a fantastic album by Head with a lot of Korn vibes. Keith Wallen from BB sings a song on that album too, also killer. My point is, this song has the vibes of that guitar sound and it’s absolute perfection.

I thought it sounded a bit like Phobia, Dear Agony and Ember. Now that you mention it, it does sound similar to Without You, that must be why I like it so much.

I know from following the band for 20 something years that Ben has dealt with a lot of health issues that stem from his struggle with alcoholism. I think there’s an element of that involved here, as there has been in many songs they’ve done over the last 10-15 years. But I also think there’s an element of coming to terms with the struggles and the low points that have come from that. Realising that there’s no point fighting the things you physically can’t control and allowing that wave to wash over you. Like the tide.

It is definitely like dear agony and dark before dawn. The first time I heard the chorus, I started getting emotional. It really is beautiful, tragic, and hopeful all in one. It’s amazing how they do that.

The way I take the acid or alkaline line is that there’s nothing to neutralize her or balance her out. Like how opposites attract and neutralize each other, she has no opposite.

I think this song intentionally refers to two different events, 1 the car crash, 2 vessel attempting to end himself. I think “trenches” are cuts.

Super duper late to this but one interpretation of this song and the eps as a whole is the deity sleep seducing vessel and getting him to kill his ex. So think of when he’s angry at the deity and he’s grieving they come to him and say “if you kill her I’ll stay with you” and this song is as you say vessel speaking to sleep and sleep is almost boasting that she got him to do that and that he’s in the palm of their hands now.

I'm 39, grew up in the 90s. And I liked to British bands growing up and all the stuff that was going on at the time, Britney, Backstreet Boys, Green Day... and into the 2000s and so forth.... Sleep Token are the BEST band I've listened to in a long time! A lot of their tracks are bangers and they have a talented piano player and drummer and vocalist. Very impressed.

Possibly the only reviewer who took the time to understand this track because like u mentioned they barely have an songs in Spanish as I believe the only have 3 Spanish songs and in the Brooklyn concert I went to of the warning on day 1 they played all three of them. You also looked up the word Malinchista which was sooo key as many reviewers just skimmed over that word. Awesome dude !!!!!!!!!

Excellent pick up on this being about a break up with his god. I have always thought this was a story about him losing his faith, changing his perspective on faith and his catholic religion, following a tragedy. He did everything that was asked of him, and begged his god for help, and received nothing in return. So he started asking questions, and he found his freedom and self-love in the answers.
