    Hi Mike. Would it be possible to make a more advanced video about UVing and texturing an organic object. Such as UVing and texturing a hand or even a glove. I'm really finding texturing difficult and I find other tutorials from other RUclipsrs not as helpful. James Taylor has a video on texturing a body this but its quite fast and I feel like there should be more focus on things like hands and feet, especially for UVing and texturing. I might be asking for a bit much but if you have some time available I'd be really greatful. Thanks for the video btw :)

    Thanks for your helpful videos. Could you please make a tutorial on making UVs for the mausoleum you made a few videos ago? I followed it and I'm trying to texture it, but I'm not sure how to map UVs to this more complicated shape. Particularly, the little nooks and crannies in the corners of the object are quite challenging, so I'd appreciate any help!

      +cmberry I have a huge and very long list of requests so that is something I can't promise but here are a few tips.
      1. Use the MIA_material_X Copper preset and dial the color down lo make it more dark, brown and less reflective
      2. Apply a slight bumpmap with noise
      3. Use the 3D paint tool to darken certain areas such as seams and creases.

    I just want to know how to get my UV shells up so I can select them. its not rocket science, yet every tutorial I follow results in my plane not projecting. Then I open UV editor and I only see UV's if I go UV mode and high light the object.

    I'm having a problem with texturing. Let's say I'm about to make a texture. I right click>assign new material> lambert. Then I click on the yellow folder, but when I do it deselects my polygon primitive, I'm not sure if it's supposed to do that or not. So then I choose my image from file, which in this case is a jpg. of a brick texture, but it doesn't appear to apply to my lambert because it isn't showing up on the object. The material is applied to the object, but the brick pattern isn't there.

    Hey Mike, I'm creating some Sci-Fi props (observatories, stations, space canisters, space crates) and I'm having trouble making it "look good".
    I'm making a scifi crate right now and I already have everything modeled, UV mapped and textured in 3D Coat.
    Do you have any tricks or tips?
    Or should I just play around with it until it looks better?
    Thanks in advance :)

    • @MHTutorials3D
      @MHTutorials3D  8 лет назад

      +MegaKosan Realism is in the details. Dents, scratches, rust, faded stickers. Old posters, garbage on the street etc.
      Things should't be too clean or straight ( even if it is Sci Fi )

    • @MegaKosan
      @MegaKosan 8 лет назад

      Mike Hermes Ok thanks, I have added a bit of rust and dust onto the lower half of the crate, since it´s on an asteroid.
      I think I will add some scratches to the bump map and I will increase the reflectivity on the metal.
      Thanks for your help!

    Pls I need your help, I'm using Maya 2016 and I have a model of a Troll (Ironically) that I just can't seem to UV no matter what.
    I selected the edges in the UV Map to make a cut and unfold and no cutting tool works, I tried Split UVs, I tried Cut, I tried Make UV Shell, I tried everything. I just can't seem to cut the UV :(
    Also, one time it cut but when I unfolded it didn't unfold like my other arm even tough I chose the same edges. I don't know what I'm doing wrong and this is driving me insane :(
    puu.sh/njHl6/140cb4dc15.jpg

    • @MHTutorials3D
      @MHTutorials3D  8 лет назад

      +Nepu-Tech USA The planar projection for something like this is totally wrong. You basically have a snapshot of the front of the troll. Try this. Select the faces of one arm, do a cylindrical projection, unfold etc. Do the next arm, do the front, do the side

    • @Zeriel00
      @Zeriel00 8 лет назад

      +Mike Hermes That's what I did for the first arm, but then the tutorial says that, that method takes too long and that you can select just the edges you wish to cut, cut them and unfold the arm. The guy in the tutorial does this and the arm comes just as good as the one with the cylindrical projection. I don't know why it worked for him but I've been 2 days on this arm and it doesn't work like that for me.
      I'll probably do the cylindrical projection but it's still a mystery why it worked for him :(
      Thanks so much for your quick reply!

    • @MHTutorials3D
      @MHTutorials3D  8 лет назад

      +Nepu-Tech USA It all depends on the textures you want to use. I assume that the texture on the arms are aimed in a different direction than that of the chest. So that is why I would do piece by piece. I haven't seen the other video,
      Mike
