    What a wonderful video. I had a real lightbulb moment when I first read 'Lessons from Madame Chic'. Reading your book really helped me take control of my eating and in particular, my snacking and 3 years on it's still helping me maintain a healthy approach to food, so thank you.

    I see a lot of mindless snacking in the workplace. People sitting at computers constantly munching. So not chic. Your advice is excellent! Changing this one bad habit will definitely help one lose weight, and work colleagues will appreciate it too. lol

    I am so glad that you clarified what you meant by snacking as mindful snacking is an important part of any weight loss routine Mindful snacking helps to maintain a steady blood sugar level that helps to prevent over eating It is also important to differentiate between a snack and a meal. Generally, a snack is no more than a handful in size.

    My mother, who had 6 children, told me when I was first pregnant, that babies weighed about 7.5 lbs and so did the afterbirth, so I should try not to gain more than 15 lbs. I did, more or less, for 4 children, and I didn't have to lose a lot of baby weight. Of course, there was a little hitch in that two of mine weighed over 9 pounds so I could have been a bit more generous, but what the heck, I saved myself a lot of effort. Lol.

    I can't remember where I read it but the French 'pay attention' to the food they eat which is what you are also alluding to, if you eat something, to be aware of it. Thank you Jennifer, good reminder and you look fantastic x

    my mother is 90 yrs old and in pretty good health... she said the differences she noticed over her lifetime time (in the American way of eating) is the increase in processed food, liquid oils and snacking. She said growing up in Virginia , on a farm, if they got hungry between meals they would eat an apple or a tomato. Everyday in sizeable quantities they (where not fat by the way)... they ate lard and cream...... they didn't eat much meat except after hog-killing time when they'd have bacon and ham and sausage. Mostly they ate veggies, starch in the form of oatmeal, bread and potatoes , full fat dairy, cheese and eggs . The only fish they ate was some fish they caught (on occasion) in the pond and canned salmon. Chicken and turkey were very rare. Beef was never eaten. Her first hamburger was when she was in her twenties when she moved to Wash D.C. Again, they mostly ate at mealtime. Snacking was limited to healthy foods.

    I like this topic! I had my baby a year ago and am about 3 pounds over my prepregnancy weight but I am happy with it because I know from prior experience that I will drop another 5 pounds or so when I stop breastfeeding. I like the healthy, more casual approach to weight loss. I don't think one needs to kill themselves in a gym daily. A balanced and thoughtful approach seems better to me. life is all about balance after all and especially with children! By the way, you look beautiful.

    [I literally had to finish a handful (or 2) of Doritos before typing this!] In one of your last videos you asked for some of our favorite things. I recently found Dr. Eric Berg on RUclips, and he is full of fantastic nutritional info. He is big on NO snacking, and has some great recipes I think you'd like. When we eat all day long, our insulin levels stay high, and when insulin levels are up, there is no fat burning going on. I'm looking forward to the rest of this series. Thank you! {And the baby spit up part was so real! I hope he is growing well and still being doted on mercilessly!}

    In general, I feel that if a person is eating a proper meal with a decent variety in their meal and in particular, I find that if I have something that is sweet and also not extremely unhealthy, I find that I don't feel like snacking at all. So lunch is always a full proper meal and I might have cheese after and it's always followed by fruit or natural yoghurt ( or both) with honey or jam. Eating like this keeps me full until dinnertime.

    Just wondering what you thought of the book "French Women Don't Get Fat" by Mireille Guiliano ? I thought her comments were very helpful. I loved the idea of having a little bag of nuts, or a snack at hand just so you don't wolf down something horrible but this wasn't supporting mindless or endless snacking.

    I have a hard time not snacking because I eat smaller portions for my main meals. I find if I eat a bigger meal I feel bloated and uncomfortable. However the amount I eat doesn't sustain me until my next meal.

      Cheri Lyn Try increasing your fats in your main meals to keep you satiated. Avocados, olives, healthy oils, animal fats from healthy animals. It took me a while to find me set point of how much fat per meal I needed to hold me to the next meal.

    Jennifer, first and foremost you look great. i wish i had found your channel 3 yrs ago after i gave birth to my daughter. i have learned a lot from you esp. capsule wardrobe. which by the way, i have adapted this season for my 4 year old.
    i do have a question.......
    could you do a video on raising children the parisian way. a friend of mine told me that apparently french (parisian ) moms are on a whole other level when it comes to raisng their children. chic, calm yet strict........ what are your thoughts?

    mindless snacking....I am sooo guilty of that. Especially as a stay-at-home mom I have to walk past the kitchen a billion times and I use the food as comfort, or a reward or just to keep myself going. I still have baby weight to lose and my baby is almost 2!!! No more mindless snacking!!!!!!!!!!

    Congratulations on your baby! Too bad you had not been able to spend time with French mothers of young children. Do women start snacking and gain weight when they have children ? I am here because ten years ago I adopted a program from a book called The No S Diet, subtitle "no sweets, snacks, or seconds, except on days that start with S." I run a little group of women using it on a weight loss site. I am trying to convince them that they really do not need snacks, even mindful ones. I've done without them for a good 90+% of the time, though I didn't have kids! I'm a little disappointed that you say you do snack. I was hoping to have support I could bolster them with! I have often allowed myself a cafe au lait or mocha in the afternoon, though I know the French would never have milk in their coffee after breakfast, but it felt chic to sip rather than chew. I found that if I chewed something, I could be led to other things to chew, but if I drank something, I was done. I used inspiration from reading Chic and Slim and other descriptions of French eating, as well as other cultures. I read your book a few years ago, and enjoyed it. I fear America's snacking habits are getting worse, especially during COVID19 restrictions. So glad I already had the meal focus. Thank you for posting.
