@dailyconnoisseur I used to be Sofía Vergara's assistant but I'm also one of her cousins and in our family is a policy not to thin/pluck/wax our brows. Sofia wouldn't let any stylist ever touch her brows at any photo shoot... They always tried. From her I learned that the brows frame your entire face. I like the full brow look. I think a full brow makes you look younger. Thanks for the great video!

I can get a bit animated when I’m passionate about something and start talking too loudly.
I left a lucrative healthcare job to pursue my passion for history and art. I now live in a very modest home but it is exactly how I want it to be: a few cats running around, flowy rooms and French/English cottage vibes. I am currently putting in flower beds and gardens and I thrift most of my finds. I do this without hurry and without society dictating how I should be doing something. Oh and I am almost 47. I gained a lot of confidence after my mother passed away, 7 years ago. I realized I was replaceable at work, that most people are not paying attention to what you are doing, and refused to have any more work stress (to a point) over a job, that I will be honest, was just a paycheck to me. I am now pursuing my Masters Degree and am enjoying the process. I am aiming to find my passion work, not just a paycheck. It has made me and my life, much more beautiful!

@Lupa et Borealis That is beautiful Lupa! Just start to do you art. Everyday. Keep a notebook with ideas, words, drawings, things that inspire you. Maybe take some classes, if you have a local adult education or check out a college. Immerse yourself. I walked away from a lot of the old things in my life- things, people, ideas, ways of doing things, even the way I dressed. I emptied out a large home, full of my past life, sold it and lived in a 1 bedroom apartment for 1 year while I flushed out my priorities. I full immersed myself into what I wanted to do. Write down your top 5 priorities and where you are at and the things you are doing right now fit into those priorities. If they don't fit, get rid of them. I always say I am passionately passionate about my life. ;) And I have no time to explain to anyone. You are already on your way!

I think beauty comes from worshiping God. You can see it on people's faces. When it's not a show and they are in their hearts truly worshiping, not just thanking, or asking for help (though we should do those things, too) but actually just offering sincere unbound praise. There is so much joy that is generated this way and people can see it! If you focus not on yourself but on how astounding God is, it makes us beautiful in His sight and that also makes it visible to others. :)

That always strikes me. The uniqueness of who you are is not to be wasted. I just love this.
My mother said this to me as she was aging, and while I was still very young.. manners, kindness, and grooming.. All you need to be beautiful.

I'm 53, and I've always had a decent amount of confidence, but really when I turned 50 it amped up even more because I became content with the way things are and really living in the moment. Look forward to your 50s, it's a good decade!

Personal hygiene is really important. Washing your hair, brushing teeth, all the bare basics are the foundation for confidence, good make up, smiling, etc.

That was exactly what I was going to say, as far as traits go!
I stopped caring about what people thought of me in High School unfortunately because no one liked me and so I figured out that if everyone already ignored me at best, bullied me at worst that I could be my self instead of trying to fit in. And honestly, being in that situation was the best thing that could have happened to me. I learned how to be resilient and unashamed to be me. It made for more awkward times in the future because while my peers were being challenged with being themselves, I just was my self.

Thank you for sharing. I am sorry about your experience in high school. I was there, too. What a cruel time it was! I tried so hard to fit in by trying to imitate others’ style, attitude, and even their foul language. I found it absolutely exhausting (I cried almost every day, especially during my junior year.), and of course, these actions didn’t help me gain friends or respect. I finally stopped caring when I was about to graduate because I knew being myself is the best self-improvement tip. It paid off in college and beyond because I made many lovely friends in college, at my daughter’s school, and on trips with my mom (even though being myself was a work in progress then and still is to this day), and I still keep in touch with a good number of them. I found it easier to be myself as I became older. I realized that having few quality friends is better than having tons of mere acquaintances who don’t care. Thank goodness for people like Jennifer and her wonderful fans,
I used to hate my bully for years, but now I'm grateful. I became very resilient and learned to be happy with myself even when I thought noone else was.. I know that sounds weird.
The most beautiful women I've known in my life were the ones who were happy in the way that they accepted themselves the way they looked. The one I am thinking of had more love for those around her than I had ever seen, she took care of her skin, didn't care that she was rather plain and she laughed and smiled all the time...

My mentor is now in her 80's and she is so beautiful and it is definitely her inner beauty that shines. She still dresses well and is a wonderful hostess. She was such a role model for me---much like Madame Chic for you. I am in my 70's and it is so important to cultivate beauty both inside and out. And oh, about the eyebrows. Enjoy them while you have them because they tend to fade and disappear with age and every day I feel like I am doing a bit of an art project to create attractive brows to frame my face. I love this video and I am smiling. Won't it be lovely when these masks are gone and we can see one another's smiles?

@@brendaaugustine4925 - The mask hides so much emotion. Furthermore, kindergarten kids I know didn’t even recognize their teachers because they never saw their teachers’ faces. Masks are evil.
I love all of your tips, but I would add that being kind to others and serving others makes for a beautiful person. And I concur on finding confidence over time- it’s taken 40 years to feel like I’m great as I am. 😊

"Fashion is instant language." I love that! ❤️ I think modesty is beautiful. Showing skin attracts the wrong kind of attention, whereas wearing beautiful, modest clothes tells others you are a lady worthy of respect.
I like that. A lady worthy of respect. I wish that I felt beautiful in my clothes as I used to in my 20s, 30s and through my mid-40s, but I have some medical issues that have caused joint pain, inflammation and weight gain. It makes me sad.
"Eyebrows are not twins, they are sisters"! That quote helped me when I was so frustrated because I could not get my eyebrows to look the same. When you showed the clip of you putting on your makeup and then back to your present look, I was thinking-what has she done different? Her makeup looks so good. And then you explained. Great video! I'm 70 now and I think it took me to get in to my 60s where I was confident enough to now worry about what others think. I think a beautiful person is one who genuinely shows that they are interested in the person to whom they are speaking . They listen, eyes focused and not distracted by noises or what is going on around them. Often in my life someone has asked me a question and I never was able to finish it because they got distracted.
Personal thoughts on beauty... Smile, kindness, cleanliness ( even if clothes are tattered or torn) and confidence with humility ..

Your beauty comes from within, and only when you have a deep love for the Father and His ways. When you love your neighbor, you let your light shine from within. He is that light. You cannot get beauty from a bottle, or anything else for that matter, certainly not from a celebrity in Hollywood. What the world dictates as beauty, just doesn't line up with the Father's standards. When you have the fruits of the Spirit....that's true beauty.
These fruits are in Galatians 5:22,23
But the fruit of the Ruach (Spirit) is love, joy, peace longsuffering, gentleness, goodness and belief.

Hi Jennifer, I think I was about 40. I remember going to an event and was introduced as "Willie's wife" and I made a correction. I said no, I am Denise Jordan. I just happen to be Willie's wife. I had come into my own...I was no longer going to be an attachment....described as Mr. Jordan's wife, Jason and Jil's mom (twins), Justin's mom, but me...Denise Jordan, Professor Jordan, writer, quilter, Ms. Denise, and now, RUclips creator. And when I claimed me I felt so free. This is probably more than what you wanted but this is how your question struck me. My style tends to be classic and conservative. I love pretty flowing dresses, snug jeans with a nice sweater or tee and old school jean jacket, with flat shoes or booties. And right now, I'm rocking the Donna Reed persona every now and then. Just fun stuff. And makeup...love it but it needs to be natural looking. Jennifer...you are killing me with the eyebrows. Mine used to be thick and wild and really pretty. Now, they are thinned out and need work and I could never get it right. I really need to work on this piece. And now, I don't want to go out to a salon and have someone that close to my face but if I'm going to be Donna Reed, I guess I'd better tweak it. My friends have been suggesting I need to do this. Hahaha! I love to get my hair done. I go every Thursday . It's the one thing I do to pamper myself weekly. And I like big curly hair. It's easy for me. Those sleek edgy styles are just too much work. I"m not good with hair. This video was so fun. I loved it. You can tell I watched till the end. Hahaha! And I really enjoyed all the quotes. So encouraging. Love this! Another thing that can make one beautiful is to be nice. Just to be kind and helpful and do the little things that make others feel "seen" or appreciated. Thank you for such a lovely and as always, well thought out video. You should do more of these.

Best message ever. Two thumbs up for this video. I would add one extra point. I am 55 years old and stopped coloring my hair. Best decision ever. I have no judgment against those who want to continue coloring. My point is that there is a kind of beauty in women who embrace their stage of life and say a hearty "yes" to it instead of resisting it. Beauty can take many forms at every stage of life.

I would add to your list kindness, contentment (definition: not inclined to complain), and beautiful speech...choosing lovely words over common words, moderating the tone of voice, and not giving way to our current culture’s tendency to speak sloppily. “Yeah” instead of “yes” for example, or using expletives every other word.
This is in part encompassed in your point “Good Manners.” A person governed by kindness, self-control, and good humor, and who displays a refined sense of speech, deportment, and appearance is captivatingly beautiful. These are the people who may be any age, or any shape or size, with any features and yet arrest attention wherever they go. It’s because they are truly beautiful...not just conforming to the societal image or trend that currently defines beauty.

Yes, I think self control/self discipline breeds beauty in many ways.
I can not agree more regarding speech. We should speak using words accurately. We should learn a rich enough vocabulary that we can express what we really want to express rather than using expletives or many words that still don’t make our meaning clear.

Your #1 tip is always what my Dad used to tell my Mum and me: "Yes, this new dress/haircut/etc is really lovely mais ce qui compte le plus est un beau sourire" (French for: what counts the most is a beautiful smile). And I knew he was right. I love smiling, I love people with a genuine smile, warm, joyful, welcoming, encouraging, reassuring, playful, happy... it doesn't matter as long as it is genuine :) Of course we can't and shouldn't smile all the time, but when we do, it is so nice, it is magic!
"Pretty is as pretty does" My grandma used to say and it is true how you act towards others can make all the difference.

I think graciousness is beautiful; it encompasses being welcoming, patient, putting others first, bearing wrongs patiently, using good language, choosing not to argue unnecessarily, ignoring provocation, etc. my mother told me “You don’t have to like everyone, but they never need to know”. That doesn’t mean being fake, it means there’s usually no benefit to letting your negative feelings be known, or hurting others.
Well done. So needed in today's society. Interesting tidbit-- back in the 60's (oh my) my sister and I went to "finishing" school. During the make-up portion we were told not to worry about our eyebrows because no one notices them! My, how times have changed. 🤣

On the subject of eyebrows, mine is a different kind of story. On the up side, they are thick and shaped nicely. I don't even need to tweeze them! But, (wait for it) they are white! They always have been. My lashes are also white. My hair is medium brown with auburn highlights. When I was younger I over compensated with the eyebrow pencil. I've finally learned to use a light brown pencil with a very gentle touch. I finish off by gently brushing over them with a brow brush to remove any too dark marks. When I look at old photos of myself...Eeeeek!

I appreciate your wonderful video. Society has been hung up on conventional beauty standards since the dawn of civilization, but social media outlets have taken those ridiculous standards to another level. Kindness, excellent manners, a cheerful disposition, and a positive attitude are the best cosmetics. Even the plainest people by conventional standards can instantly become more beautiful than supermodels and celebrities who constantly use foul language or have a nasty attitude. Smiles are one of the best turn-ons, and I feel happier when others smile, whether I have a good or bad day. Jennifer, you are beautiful inside and out! ♥️💐

Keeping your nails in good shape is very important in your overall appearance. I had a friend in high school who didn't have many clothes, but she had a simple wardrobe and was always wrinkle free. It made all the difference.
I've just booked my first hair cut in over a year, my appointment got cancelled at the beginning of lockdown here in canada and i've only just been able to get in to see my stylist. I am so excited about it!!

I absolutely loved this video. Thank you for sharing. As a Christian, I remind my daughters that we are all made beautiful and we look fancy when once we wear a dress, for example. Also, instead of saying beautiful I say presentable when it come to looks. Girls tend to get the appearance compliment and boys the strength and or intelligence. People will nurture what others compliment.
An older woman told me that everyone can be good looking.

I was around 50 when I decided that I was too old to care what other people think. I turned 60 three days ago and I’m continuing to learn about myself and feel more and more confident.
I could only add one thing and that is being kind to others. I have known people who would not be considered beautiful to the eye, but their kindness to others makes them truly beautiful. Great video. Thanks
During this pandemic, personal opinions about masks and vaccines are all over the place. When confronted or shamed by others, I just stay calm and respond with, "we all have our own opinions and the best thing for us is to respect one anothers opinions and love one another." Then I calmly walk away. A woman of class does all she can to keep peace while not losing her dignity.
Kindness, gratitude, caring about others and listening. I don’t think anyone can be beautiful without those traits and skills.
I recently started getting my brows tinted because I have blonde brows that aren't very full. This has made a huge difference in my face. I don't look washed out anymore. Thank you for all the wonderful tips.

Hi Jennifer. Your 10 tips are great, thank you for sharing and reminding us. I can't help but think of the comment by Audrey Hepburn that you quoted "True beauty in an individual is reflected in their soul." This is something I think that has been holding me back for so long. I have done all of these tips at various times in my 65 years - I have been confident, know how to do my makeup just right (brows included lol), have always practiced good manners, dressed well (even down to the right earrings lol) etc. But I have always felt down on myself and negative and it shows in my mannerisms and speech and I get so frustrated with myself that I'm not refined and elegant. I think I have figured it out, now I'm trying to figure out how to do it ---- forgiveness. I need to practice forgiveness -- I have let my childhood abuse make me feel ugly and bitter and no matter how hard I try with all the other things, I still feel ugly. At 65, you'd think I have it all together. So... I absolutely know that all these tips you have reminded us of help us in that journey, it's that spiral -- these tips will help one spiral up, to make you feel better when you look in the mirror and see that person looking back at you. So..... for anyone else feeling like this... let's spiral up. And an answer is coming to me, I'm going to go get on my knees now and ask for the help I need -- I would love to feel beautiful and be beautiful, be that person who, when people leave my presence, they feel like they are special... And your advice will help me do that. Thank you. (And I am smiling!!) And note, I have had your Madame Chic books for several years now and refer to them a lot! - Thank you, you are a sweet spirit and an amazing example!! :)

I busted out laughing at the comments on eyebrows. Oh my goodness YES. I didn’t realize I needed to be filling in my eyebrows until I was around 40, and the transformation was unbelievable.
As for other tips for being a beautiful person? Intelligence. An unabashedly intelligent person who isn’t arrogant is beautiful, in my humble opinion.

I agree confidence does increase with age. I had someone tell me that using a backpack as a purse is not classy. You know what I did "I remained calm & classy". Let me remind you it was a sleek black with gold details and from a high end brand. Also I get plenty of compliments on it. Thank you for posting this video. It really brought me back to being true to myself and reminding me that classy comes in all different styles. I don't have to wear stilettos and a gown to be a classy woman! 🌺

Great video ! Love your channel. For me, it's whats inside that's important ! I've known many superficially beautifully women who are nasty, cruel, ignorant. Posture is important, as is a smile but an open heart beats everything. I'm 52 and my body confidence peaked in my late 30s to mid 40s. Emotional confidence is an ongoing skill. I appreciate Indigenous / First Nation cultures they recognise the worth of elders - sadly western cultures worship youth. Stay safe and best wishes from Australia xx

My husband came around when I was watching your vlog and asked "who is this beautiful woman you are watching?" And no, he did not see the title of it. I am glad I found your channel. But I would add one important thing, a woman has to take care of her health, especially when getting older! Good diet and staying active are important as well.

Recently I read a beautiful book called Phosphorescence: a book on awe, wonder and things that sustain you when the world goes dark, by Julia Baird. She is a well known Australian journalist and historian who has had life threatening health issues. She writes a chapter on this and what stood our for me is the idea that beauty like intelligence like muscle strength like body physiology is not dolled out in equal proportions. Some people are brighter , have better fine motor skills etc than others and beauty is the same. And that’s the point we are not all the same and then there are the cultural influences that shape our views on something. She suggests that we just see things for what they are, not wasting our time on laments, celebrate who and what we are and how we look and just make the most of and enjoy it. She has a pragmatic philosophy that is liberating and helps to accept and enjoy what we have been endowed with. Complimentary to what I think you are suggesting here.

I’ve “wasted time on laments” for too much of my life... wishing I had more of the physical beauty not doled out in equal amounts, as you said. But I continue to practice being grateful for what good I have, improve what I can, and do my darndest with what I’ve got.

What you say here is so true, I always say if I could change one thing when talking to my younger self, I would say learn everything you can, just so i increase my value and would never have felt the need of validation or be naturally confident.

I was wondering what was different: the eyebrows! The fuller look suits you very well. Thanks for these timeless and wise reminders. Smile is key! I truly became confident after my 30s, and my kids. I have a story about beauty. In my 20s I met two brothers: one was stunning (he was a model) and the other well not so much. After an evening with them and other friends, the stunning one totally ceased to appeal to me, and I realize the other one was the most attractive of the two. His personality was so charming, he was so outgoing and caring at the same time, it transformed him. While the first one was so engrossed with his own looks that he became totally boring and unattractive. I found this true with most people: the kind ones always end up looking so much more beautiful than they are, because their kindness and humility shines through and gives them this aura that cannot be faked. So more than good manners, I would say kindness is the true beauty secret.

You are so right about the eyebrows! When I look in the mirror and I feel like I just don't look up to snuff, I work on my (thick) brows with a razor; tweaking the edges, eliminating the hairs between the brows, etc., and I instantly feel like I look better. Who knew?
