God designed our bodies and required fasting and prayer. Fasting may be trending now but it’s not a new concept. There is so much wisdom in it especially when you look at the research and most importantly, the results🌹

This is the BEST response to IF I have ever read. Thank you. Scripture doesn't state "if" you fast, but "when" is what is in the word. I think HE knows best.

For the coffee question, I’ve done the following. Throughout the week I would stop at different coffee shops during my daily walks and order americano black. If I disliked the taste, I would ask for milk and it would cover up the taste. Eventually I found americano that I liked. I then bought beans from them (almost all coffee shops sell their beans). I asked them to grind it. Now I have my black coffee in the morning and it tastes amazing.
It made me realize that oftentimes people put milk or cream in their coffee because their coffee tastes bad. Just find the coffee that tastes good and you won’t even miss the milk!

I have found the blonde roasts to be much less harsh/bitter tasting. I also grind my coffee so it is bigger chunks than the regular ground. Then French press.

      Genius.
I'm going to try this as I have reached the stage that I need to take a sit down break in my walk. Which I have reframed as a positive opportunity to sit take a breath and watch the world! However it bugs me that I'm adding calories to my life that I frankly don't need!

You’re the first person who made me feel like I could actually do intermittent fasting because the way you do it is so DOable and not extreme! My husband and I started to do it the way you do about 3 weeks ago and already I’ve lost a little weight and sleep better every night! Thank you for sharing about this! Love the IF content!

My husband has lost 125 pounds doing intermittent fasting and eating healthy foods (plant based foods). He was morbidly obese and is now in a healthy range. He can shop off the rack now instead of mail order big and tall catalogs. He left the house today dressed presentable in a button down and a sport coat! He feels so much better!
You are so right about the portion sizes being out of control. My husband has learned what a "normal" portion should be vs. what Americans tend to view as normal. Those platters served at restaurants could feed a family of four! Sizing down portions, eating plant based foods, and IF has cleaned up his body in so many ways. His doctor said his blood tests are the best they've ever been!
It is free and that is a lovely perk! You can start today! Thanks for the video Jennifer!

Jennifer, I’m noticing you sit down for meals and snacks; on the go eating is unhealthy. Thinking about our food and giving thanks for it helps us be intentional. We ate smaller meals when I grew up in a family of 7; we were slimmer, too. Sunday night was the night we had a slice of cake after church; it was a special day focused on the Lord and set aside from work. Intensional living is helpful with self control. Thanks for sharing your inspiration! Julie 🌷

Try chewing your food 40 times per bite. You will get that full feeling where you cannot take another bite but with a much much smaller amount of food. Especially if they are fibrous like broccoli, cabbage, beans etc.

Great video! I wanted to share my older son who is 12 had gained a little extra weight when my father died and when I started intermittant fasting he asked if he was allowed to delay breakfast or skip it if he wasn't hungry! He naturally lost the extra weight and now only starts eating when he is hungry! I am so grateful to realize we should all start eating only when we are hungry and not make ourselves eat early if we aren't hungry

I am so happy to see one of my favorite RUclips moms doing intermittent fasting. I am very interested to keep on hearing about your journey. I decided to start intermittent fasting about a week ago and I have noticed a difference in just one week. I am enjoying these videos about intermittent fasting from you so much, Jennifer! I started trying intermittent fasting (again , as I've tried 2 times before this with no success) after your first video about IF and I have lost some weight and I'm feeling better about my eating choices! The hardest thing for me has been retraining my brain to be able to get other things done first thing in the morning before eating breakfast. Ha! My husband works very long days away from home so he is not ready to eat dinner until 6 or 7 at night which means I can't break my fast until 10:30 or 11:00 in the morning. I wake up at 5:30, I am a homeschool mom and we have lots of farm animals so I have a lot of teaching and chores to do in the morning and I get hung up on thinking I need to eat really early in the morning before I start in on all of that. Just recently though I've felt like I've been able to break through that way of thinking, get my work done and then enjoy a brunch type of meal with a feeling of accomplishment since I have gotten so much done before sitting down to eat. So I just have brunch with tea, a small snack or treat in the afternoon and dinner every day and it's nice. I enjoy my food so much more now that I'm experiencing some real hunger on a daily basis. I'm satisfied for longer in between meals and I don't feel guilty about over eating every day like I used to because I'm no longer doing that. Thanks for helping me out and inspiring me in this area! You have been such a help to me in my homeschooling and homemaking journey as well as helping me to be a well dressed, classy lady and I am grateful to you for that. Looking forward to more IF related videos in the future. Thanks, Jennifer. 💗

I’ve practiced intermittent fasting all my adult life without knowing it. Dinner at 5:00 followed by dessert. Our rule was always nothing after 6:30. Breakfast was usually at 7:00. When IF came out I tried to do it for 16 hours, and found I couldn’t. It literally made me sick (thyroid issues plus peri menopause), but I found the 12 hours is still good for me. I love your videos!💗

@Dawn Dawn, I love your comment. While some people may really like a very restricted eating window, others forced this upon themselves. Why put ourselves on a 23: 1 (OMAD) or 20:4 IF protocol, if a larger eating window benefits us greatly? Like you, a 12:12 works well with me.

Jennifer, I love that you have an afternoon tea time with a small treat. I am the same way, and there is no way I want to give it up. We do homeschooling in the afternoon (I am the opposite of you, not a morning person at all) - and when we are having a "recess" mid afternoon, I make myself a cup of tea and enjoy a shortbread cookie with it or a homemade biscuit with jam. While I enjoy my tea, I look through a pretty magazine or a decorating book...this personal break has become really important to me. I am not interested in any kind of diet plan that would make me give up my favourite foods. But I think I am going to give intermittent fasting a try. I think one of the reasons it may work is that in pushing through that evening hunger, one's stomach may shrink slightly over time and then smaller portions during the day would be more satisfying.

Jennifer - for years I have been snubbing black coffee but you inspired me to persevere through it in hopes that I can get used to it. I just poured myself a cup. I have been doing IF for 3 years (combined with Keto) and could benefit from a few more hours of fasting in the morning. I lost 25 pounds that first year and kept it off. I have renewed energy and never felt better. Thanks for what you do.

I have a tip for the woman that doesnt have time for cooking at lunchtime: I'm the same, but still prefer eating my heartiest meal at lunchtime. I cook (batch cook and freeze) in the evenings and then I heat my meals for lunch. I'll prepare a simple side sallad or munch on some carrot and or cucumber sticks while the meals are being heated. Voila! 😊

My Dr. suggested intermittent fasting and a fairly low carb way of eating. When we were in Europe, we had pasta, potatoes, bread, etc. but portions were quite small. No restrictions on anything, just reasonable portions. Desserts were often a piece of good cheese and a little fruit.

I’ve started taking some of your advice and it was a struggle the first week but your stomach shrinks fast and you do get used to it. I’ve already lost 5.5 pounds over 13 days. This is through portion control, better food choices and increased water intake. I also have 1 coffee with milk of a morning as soon as I wake. For me personally this is my one indulgence to fill my stomach and helps me to keep going before I eat some few hours later.

I started IF almost 2 weeks ago (on March 13) because of your one-year IF update video. I've been trying to lose 10 pounds all of my adult life without long-term success. Today is March 25, and I've lost 3.9 pounds - in less than 2 weeks. Holy cow, what a shock. I am eating 2 or usually 3 meals a day in a 10-hour window with no snacking. I previously snacked quite a bit, and on nuts of all things. Nuts are healthy, yes, and also loaded with calories. I also find that the weight loss is so rewarding that I'm not inclined to eat sweets, which I frequently had with every meal!! So YAY for IF!! This is totally something I can do forever. One simple rule for me: no snacking. I love it. I can do this! Thank you for your inspiration!

IF seems healthy. Constant eating/grazing causes spikes in insulin all day long, and your body never feeds off any fat stores, because there's always something in the digestive system. We grew up with three basic meals (a natural eating window) and snacking was discouraged so that we would focus on the meals prepared for us. Our society has strayed a long way from this pattern, to its detriment, I believe.

Jennifer! You are so right! Our eating habits are so warped. Eating small (normal!) sized portions and not eating late into the night is seen as odd when it is how our bodies should function. Plus we don’t do the manual labor (and thus caloric output) generations before us did. We are a pretty sedentary people and therefore require less food.

I love the idea of having a mindful treat in the afternoon before dinner. I mentioned in a comment in your last video that about 3 pm was when I got the urge to snack. I'll go to the cupboard and reach in and grab chips, a cookie or something. Maybe if I would take 15 minutes out of my day to sit and relax with a cup of tea and a treat this would help.

Black coffee in the morning didn't work for me. I ended up eating a lot more throughout my eating window and actually put on weight. After 10 days, I just reverted to coffee & creamer (no sugar) in the morning, and eat so much healthier later on. Lost 2 kg within a week and I don't even feel hungry!
I've stopped my very frequent potato chips and diet Coke late in the evening. I feel really good about this. It was a mad addiction I knew I needed to stop.

You are so right about European vs. American portion sizes, it shows by having our country considered obese and 2/3 of us Pre or full bore diabetic. We are so used to large portions of meat and potatoes that the change is a little hard, even to imagine, when one is changing into this way of eating but believe me - you will feel so healthy and lighter and it’s worthwhile. Most of us are carb heavy and when I see what you, Jennifer, is eating, you are not. That’s one of the reasons for your weight loss. You look fantastic keep it up. I watch Mindy Pelz and she is so bright and full of great info.

My grandparents ate their main dinner at lunchtime and then had a light tea at about 5pm and then I don’t remember them ever snacking in the evening. It’s hardly extreme! One thing that’s helped me stop my evening binge eating is the fact that I sleep far better. I thought I’d never get used to it but it’s taken a few days and now it feels normal. Also, if you’re the weight you want to be, you’re eating enough!

I’ve been trying intermittent fasting for about two weeks. I really stopped snacking and I don’t miss it. I still have ice cream with my dinner but I don’t have to eat two bowls.

If we have ice cream after dinner, we keep it to a little dixie cup (hoodsie cup). I find this is enough to satisfy and provides great portion control. Otherwise my portion would be huge. I really love ice cream!

Great video! ❤️ I am already taking small steps to prepare more delicious, sophisticated meals (on beautiful plates, a huge difference!), limit mindless snacking, and not eat after dinner. Right now my ratio is 12/12 (eating 6 am - 6 pm), lol, but works with my body and family routine. I need to add your "tea time" as a mindful treat and see if my body likes that to be more satiated. Thanks for making daily life more wonderful!!! ❤️

Thank you for sharing this information. I’ve been fasting for over a year and black coffee was hard for me at first too. I make my own cold brew and use that to make an Americano with hot water. It’s delicious and it isn’t bitter at all. I do have creamy coffee once I open my window as well. I also eat my big meal at lunch and will have the dinner I made for my family the night before at that meal. I drink sparkling water at the table with my family during their dinner and often read aloud or do our devotional since my mouth isn’t busy chewing. I’ve had very positive results with my hormones thanks to IF. It’s actually what brought me to it. It’s helped this midlife stage of life so much. I move my window around when needed, I think flexibility with IF is key!

Enjoying watching your channel! A few disjointed thoughts:
-I also do a 16/8 (11-7pm). I have never felt better. Completely agree that it is important to get back in touch with our bodies and our real hunger cues.
-Re homeschool- we’ve decided to homeschool our daughter and all future children so watching any homeschool videos and tips about it are so helpful.
    - My partner day trades too and I work from home. We love that we are home together so much.

Thank you for answering. I struggled with the night time snacking. Discouraged, I decided to forego intermittent fasting altogether. Since the birth of my twins I have not been able lose all the weight. It is difficult for me to feel chic or entertain a carefully curated wardrobe when you are not completely comfortable in the skin you're in. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it helps me put things into perspective. I will give it another go.

Boy, I must feel chatty this morning but this topic is really up my alley because I feel so strongly about good nutrition. Dr. Mindy Pelz has recently talked about coffee being one of the most toxic foods because of it being so heavily sprayed. She recommended a brand she uses and I ordered it on line that is not sprayed. It’s delicious and I’m going to order more, there is also a Swiss filtrated decaf as well that one could drink b4 bed. For those interested, check out her vid.

Hi Jennifer. What has helped me with transitioning to black coffee is using flavored coffee beans. I have never been into them. Ever. But, giving up the cream was easier with using flavored beans. Just buy a small quantity and give it a try! Definitely add cream and collagen to my afternoon cup though!

Intermittent Fasting was the best decision I ever made, and have not regretted it for one day in the 12 months that I have been doing it. I am like some of your readers, who are unable to have my large meal at lunch (although that is what I would prefer). I begin fasting after dinner, about 6:30, have a light lunch around 11:30, and then tea time at around 3:30. I no longer have dips or rises in blood sugar and no longer get "hangry". I would...and do...recommend it to anyone. And I love just eating a bowl of cereal at night ;)

I'm 50 now and fingers crossed I am accepted for this position that will also be stressful but out my comfort zone.
I am using your examples to stay calm and not react so automatically and loud as chef's need to in a noisy kitchen.
Focusing on how to be graceful is a way to take my mind off the extreme newness of my job💜💙

My dad and mother in law drink coffee black and in my experience I've never seen a person who enjoys black coffee be chubby. My dad also has a sweet tooth. But liquid carbs (cream, milk) hit our blood sugar much harder than other sweets that we have to chew first. I found black coffee is good if I add 4oz of hot water to it. Basically an americano ☕️

If you switch to organic heavy whipping cream its fine in coffee. The carb level is too low to spike insulin and break your fast. Same if you use organic grass fed butter keto coffee. :)

I appreciate all the information on intermittent fasting.. That said I was really surprised to hear how and what you feed your children .Growing up in a French family there were never children's meals. We all ate whatever my mother made. We were raise eating everything from artichokes to escargot in garlic sauce from a very early age. Three meals a day and 1 small snack aka pause gourmande. I also have four children and have raised them in the same fashion. I want to be clear I am not criticizing you I was just very surprised to hear you say your kids had different meals than you and your husband.

This is such an interesting topic for me! there's so much to say about intermittent fasting and the many, many benefits it has.I have been doing it before I was pregnant with our now one year old, and have been doing it the last half year again. I always feel so much better when I'm doing it! I think what makes it easier and cuts back on your cravings to snack is to eat good quality foods and not high carbohydrate and sugar laden foods.I think too, there's so much to say about how Americans, in general, are snacking way too much. Here is something I've been pondering.. how much snack do children really need? I believe our habits start when we are young, and I'm not sure that it's exactly a good thing for children to be snacking all the time either. there may be a time and place for snacking for children, however if it's done out of sugar \carb cravings or just plain boredom, then it could be a problem.this is something I'm personally trying to work at with our children. If anyone has tips let me know.😊 And if anyone wants more info on intermittent fasting I highly recommend Dr Berg or Dr Ken Berry among many other good sources online.

I've done intermittent fasting, and I love it. I also had the issue (at first) of being hungry around 9ish. But, before too long, that became less of an issue. I think it is the best way to eat healthfully and lose weight. I doesn't feel like I'm depriving myself at all. I still enjoy some sweets, but in moderation. I couldn't give up cream in my coffee, but I still lost weight and felt so much better. Love your channel!

I also have black coffee in the morning as part of intermittent fasting. I wanted to reduce my coffee intake so now I make ginger tea out of fresh ginger every morning. I simply chop up fresh ginger and boil in water. As the day goes by and I want more tea I just keep adding water to the leftover ginger. The next morning I start with fresh ginger. This has allowed me to reduce my black coffee to one cup in the morning.

Your body is working very hard to digest what you eat and it needs a break and yours cells have a chance to mend during this time. Fasting has been around for years and not just for monks. Some people eat about 5 or6 meals a day, think how hard that is on your body to constantly have to work that hard.
