This makes so much sense. My mother never had trouble with her weight. She eats breakfast, a tiny lunch, and a small dinner and nothing after 6pm. NOTHING. And she never snacks at all, not even gum or candy. She wouldn't even think to do so. She is 94 and still very active and slim.
@tonimt1712 Thanks! I started off strict w/clean KETO + IF on an OMAD schedule. I threw in long fasts as well (48 hr +). It took about 1 year to get out of obesity. Once out of obesity, I started varying my fasts.
Growing up my mother used to say, “Don’t spoil your appetite!” Building up an appetite makes your meal much more satisfyingly delicious then had you been snacking prior.
I fully agree with your observation of obesity being linked to constant food availability. At 72 I think back to growing up in the 50's and 60's. Although one occasionally would see significantly overweight people, it wasn't nearly on the scale that is observed today. But then we didn't eat in cars, there were no cup holders in cars (golly, we didn't even have seat belts!), it was considered gauche to be walking down the street eating, one certainly didn't see children eating in church in order to quiet them. As Americans we've adopted a very bad habit of always putting something in our mouths. Not good for the waistline or our oral health. And closing the kitchen after dinner is excellent. If one is prowling for food 3 hours later, perhaps it's time to go to bed.
I first started IF after your first video on it, lost that last pesky 10 lbs and felt great. This summer a little salty evening snack has snuck back in some nights. I'm noticing poorer sleep those nights and about 5 lb weight gain. This video was exactly the encouragement I needed! My kitchen shall be closed after dinner tonight! I do find it helps to brush and floss my teeth early so I don't want to eat again. Thanks so much!
I’m going to bring out my madame chic again and read it. Thanks for the reminder of not snacking. Last night I ate the lightest dinner ever and slept sooooo well. Something to that!
I grew up- first generation American - we made sure our kitchen was closed and always ready for the next morning. How i miss my Mom who taught me this❤
I have been fasting for over a year now. I generally do 18 to 20 hour fasts and mainly follow OMAD. I lost 30 pounds in about 3 months and have kept the weight off since. I’m definitely a believer in intermittent fasting. I don’t miss the snacking at all.
Ok, this hack helped me immensely overcome my nighttime snacking. I bought an inexpensive We’re Open, We’re Closed sign on Amazon. I hang it on one of my kitchen cabinets and flip it at 9 am to We’re Open and turn it over to We’re Closed at 7. Highly recommend! 🥳
I find this fascinating. Growing up, my mom made three meals a day. We ate breakfast before heading out to school, purchased or brought a lunch for school, and then had a very nice dinner around the time my dad got home from work. After that, the kitchen was cleaned up, the lights turned off, and no one went into the kitchen again until morning. I look back on that and am in wonder. We often snack after dinner in our home now and I can't figure out how things changed. Even when I was single and living on my own, I ate dinner and then didn't think about eating again until the morning. Wow! How did I even do that??? I think, for me, the change took place with my first pregnancy when I found myself ravenously hungry 24/7. After my children were born, I just felt hungry constantly and never returned to my old habits. I'm going to try to implement this idea because, clearly, it is possible - I did it the entire time I was growing up and was a young adult. Thanks for the reminder!
This is so true. I’m 7 months pp and started 16:8 fasting and it’s helping me to feel in control of myself again. Also, my mom used to tell us “kitchen is closed” when we were younger. Now, the 3 younger kids still live at home and the kitchen always seems to be open. My parents also really wish to lose weight. It’s definitely correlated
I used to obsess over food and how much I'd had to eat in a day. It got to the point that I had to see a intuitive eating nutritionist to help me manage my thoughts and relationship around food. The help was okay and the first step for me but it was really intermittent fasting that that got rid of that obsessiveness. I found that I don't have to worry about what I eat anymore and it's such a relief. I'm losing weight, eat better than ever, don't obsess, and developed a much healthier relationship with my body and food. The concept of the kitchen being closed it really smart and something I will use to help me as I continue with my intermittent fasting.
I have had a similar experience. Now, I eat more and eat everything (including some desserts and high calorie food), but I don't obsess (and I weigh less than when I was virtually starving/depriving myself). I highly recommend KITCHEN IS CLOSED!!
IF has really worked me and I've been able to maintain the weight loss. One thing that's helped me when I do occasionally feel hungry outside of my eating window is that I think "oh I'm probably burning stored calories now." That seems to put things in perspective for me. I look forward to the meals in my eating window and really enjoy them.
I recently heard Dr. Jason Fung describe the science behind what's going on when we feel a little hungry during our fasting window, and you are exactly right. I find it so helpful to remember this too. The hunger always quiets down after a little while.
I subscribe to this philosophy; I eat nothing after 6:00 pm. I loved your video because it brought back a great memory. When my now 13 year old granddaughter was 5, I had a particularly difficult day and was very tired. I expressed this after cooking and cleaning up from dinner. Sunny then very wisely said, "Grandma is closed for the night." I never forgot her wise words.
You're so right! I'm on an IF journey. 67, down almost 20 lbs. I'm hypoglycemic so I was taught to eat every 3 hours. I don't anymore and I don't snack anymore. I believe you're right...constant access to food has made us fat and sick.
You are so correct! Once I started the 16:8 my body no longer craves snack food. I just make sure my protein intake is balanced to make me feel satisfied. I feel soooooo much better and my body is thanking me. Thank you for sharing the research.
I love your videos on intermittent fasting. I did buy the Fittrack scale based on your recommendation. I’m a 5’9” female and I’ve never been overweight. The Fittrack scale told me that my goal weight is 106 pounds and that my current BMI is 33.9. - Basically it thinks I’m obese. If I weighed 106 I’d be in the hospital. I’m so glad the scale works well for you but I’m definitely returning mine.
Thank you Jennifer, for reminding us of our over abundance leading to our own demise. We must be watchful. Discipline is not a ‘bad’ word. We reap what we sow. God bless you and your beautiful family. ❤
As a Mom of 5, my practical reason for closing the kitchen is that I don’t want to follow my kids all day long cleaning up messes in the kitchen. They get an after-school snack and a bedtime snack (teenage boys…). I feel that is reasonable. But no mindless cracker-grabbing at 10am!
I lost a lot of weight when we moved to France 8 years ago - a combination of not being near town, not eating out, and not snacking between meals. I have managed to keep in a healthy weight range since, partly because I have a health condition that requires me to do so. Unfortunately, fast food has come to France, and with it, less healthy eating habits, and more overweight people.
I've not been successful at IF (blood sugar issues), but years ago, we did only have three meals a day, and one small snack after school. Closing the kitchen after dinner seems doable for me!
I am the same way. My blood sugar will crash to dangerous levels overnight if I do not have a substantial snack at bedtime. We figured that out with a glucometer that is worn continuously for two weeks. I eat a fairly healthy and macro-balanced diet throughout the day and generally avoid snacking, but I’m sad that I can’t ‘close the kitchen’ after dinner. I’m about 10-15 lbs overweight, probably due to these 200 calorie snacks before bed.
Have you tried increasing the amount of protein & fat in your last meal? I do not have diabetes but I am hypoglycemic & had gestational diabetes when pregnant. I used to NEED to snack and NEED to carry food to raise my sugars because I would constantly crash but by cutting carbs and increasing protein & healthy fats I have been able to nearly stop those sugar crashes (I will still get them if I consume carbs and/or sugar without protein). Might be worth trying if you haven’t yet.
@authenticallytracy3421 I affirm that low carb eating for me has really helped curb those scary low blood sugar moments which turned out to be due to reactive hypoglycemia. Definitely worth considering low carb (higher protein and fat).
I didn’t realize how much snacking I did until one day I was in the office and I stopped at someone’s desk to ask them something. I reached for a pen, and that’s when I realized that I was holding a cookie in my hand. I couldn’t remember where I got the cookie, or why I was even holding a cookie. Snacking was so automatic and that moment really woke me up to what I was doing.
This was very interesting to me. I am an American living in Greece and my kitchen is just like you described Madame Chics kitchen. A tiny room way in the back of the house that even has a sliding door to close. And the restaurants are closed in the afternoon and many don’t open before 7:00 p.m. The late dinner tradition here is harder to do with intermittent fasting, but I’m able to keep my morning time consistent.
Hi Jennifer, I have struggled on and off with always wanting some cereal about 9-10pm. I am really trying to stop this now and having a big glass of sparkling water at hand while watching tv really helps. I also clean my teeth and take my make up off before sitting down as this ritual also confirms that my eating window is done and it is time to switch off before bed time. My youngest son who is 15 is constantly hungry and has cereal every night before bed but he is still growing and is using so much energy. I know that I have fed him a decent dinner so I don`t stress if he wants to eat again. I have to remind myself that I am 56 and not 15 and I am not using anywhere near the energy he is using!!!
Oh, yes this does not apply to our children. They are growing and need more food sometimes. I think your rituals of brushing your teeth and getting ready for bed are helpful cues for your body.
I've been doing IF for over a year but I've been snacking when I open my window. I grab whatever I can find prior to my meal and I'm sure this new habit is contributing to my yearlong plateau. Here's my plan thanks to your wisdom here, I will treat my opening as an appetizer and actually put a small amount on a plate, sit, and enjoy it. I need to eat more mindfully. Thank you for this challenge.
In addition to closing the kitchen after dinner, I also make sure that no food i.e. snack bags, loaf of bread, cookie jar etc. is left out on the the counter as I used to do. All food items are behind a closed pantry door. I so wish I’d understood the benefits of IF years ago. In the past 2+ years I’ve lost 50 lbs, began daily exercise, and enjoy many benefits of this lifestyle. I do not subscribe to any extreme methods, it’s just 3 meals per day on a 16-8 plan. Thank you, Jennifer!
Agree on all points! I first gave up snacking between meals, lost weight. Then started IF from dinner to breakfast, 16 hour fast. Feel amazing! Lost the bloat. Now I’ll fast 18 hours or 20 on occasion. I have always been a healthy eater but now I enjoy my food even more.
I meant to come back and say how much this video helped. Repeating “the kitchen is closed” really rang in my head and that’s what I tell myself at night now. It actually works. ❤
I do intermittent fasting and I am meeting my health , weight loss and fitness goals. If I ever feel that I need something to eat between meals, I eat a very small handful of macadamia nuts. If I want something sweet, I’ll have a few macadamia nuts with some grapes. I think the high quality fat in the nuts keeps me feeling satiated. However I generally do not snack. I try to eat 30 grams of high quality protein at each meal and the protein fills me up so much that I am not hungry between meals. I am no longer hungry after my dinner. Intermittent fasting controls my food cravings about 95% of the time. Thank you for keeping this topic of personal health alive Jennifer.
I have also found eating 30 grams of protein at each meal helps so much.. I seem to be working my way up to a 16 hour fast cz I eat by 5 pm each day but I usually have coffee w/cream by 7:00 am. I guess I need to not eat or drink til 9:00 for that sweet spot. 16:8.
Consistent IF and glucose control (keto like diet) has dramatically affected my health and appearance for the better, I feel and look better at 52 than I did at 40 😊
Thank you so much for this video. I love the concept of “kitchen closed.” As a wife of a professional snacker it is so hard to not get sucked into that evening snack mindset. I plan on incorporating this concept in our home this week!!
Excellent video - the concept of a "closed kitchen" is clear but WHY this is important on the IF journey (and no doubt any weight-loss or even healthy eating journey) is well-explained. A big plus is you make it sound doable. Thank you, Jennifer!
I totally agree with you, Jennifer! I’ve been IF for a little over 3 yrs 16:8. I eat between 9a 5p. And the kitchen closes at 5! That really helped me too. IF really changed my life for the better in some many ways. Thanks for another great video❤
This has made a big difference in how I feel...not eating after dinner and cutting out the afternoon snacks! I eat much better at meals and get way better nutrition as a result!
Hi Jennifer, I watched this video a few days ago and have come back to tell you that saying 'the kitchen is closed' is proving very helpful. It's only been a couple of weeks since I started IM and I'm feeling better for it. Thanks.
I really loved that your book opened like that about no snacking. It further told me about how my own snacking is really causing my weight loss goals to stall. Too much snacks! Sometimes I fail once a week but for the most part I don’t snack anymore. And yes you are right it really helps me enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner so much more!! :)
Jennifer, I love your books! And I want to give a shout out to you for starting my family on the intermittent fasting lifestyle. It not only helped me and my husband lose weight, but our eating habits have improved. Not to mention the cost of our groceries went down!! Thank you so much for introducing it to us. Thank you also for your videos of what you eat in a day, great meal ideas!! ❤
I've been doing Intermittent Fasting for 2 years now. I have lost 72# thus far. I no longer even feel the urge to snack! My eating window is shorter than yours (because we are all different and an 8 hour eating window is just too long for me). I stick to a 4 hour eating window. The wonderful part is that I eat WHATEVER I WANT. Seriously...all the things! Thank you for your channel and sharing your knowledge with us!
Great advice. When my kids were little, they did need a snack before bed. They have grown into healthy, normal weight adults. But yes, for us adults, the kitchen is closed! 😄
Didn't even watch this yet, just wanted to say that just from the thumbnail photo I was like "ooooh Jennifer is glowing!" I think this is one of your chicest (or my fave) outfits!! The color of your top, your belt and watch are all so ON POINT and your hair and YOU are glowing. Thank you for all the great inspiration and classy content. God bless!
I learned this from you and I’m grateful. I’m like you in the way that I thrive on boundaries and rules so an IF schedule works well for me as well as not snacking. And I love the fact that IF makes me feel like I am the one in charge instead of food. Now the difficulty I have is getting my family on board. I tell them the kitchen is closed and I get it all cleaned up and nice so that I can wake up the next morning to a clean kitchen ready for me to prepare breakfast. And then I wake up and there is a sink full of dishes I have to wash before I start breakfast and it’s frustrating.
I agree, kitchen should be closed after dinner, and snacking in between meals should be reduced or avoided for most of us. I would just say that if anyone feels "ravenous" two-three hours after dinner it might be because they didn't have enough food during the day. Perhaps they had three meals but these weren't enough to fulfil nutrient and calories requirement. They could have a lighter snack, and slightly increase quantities the next day. It wouldn't be fasting, but going to bed hungry doesn't help with sleep quality. Also, dinner times in America are much earlier than in countries like Portugal. I normally have dinner at 7:30, f I had dinner at 5:30, I'd surely need something before bed at 10pm.
Thank you for truly explaining intermittent fasting. I need to lose some weight. Most things I try don’t work. This might be the ANSWER! I’m going to try it
Great point! When I was growing up in UK I had to ask permission to eat from the kitchin. Of course we were naughty sometimes but it set a discipline which helps to not snack.
Once I learned how to balance my meals (aka Abbey Sharp's Hunger Crushing Combo - protein, fiber, healthy fats) I stopped feeling hungry between meals and was able to stop snacking. I was snacking because I was always hungry since I didn't know how to feed myself properly. As a side note, my younger two kids love to come into the kitchen while I'm cleaning up after dinner to beg for more food. My rule is that they can have an apple or a banana, and if they don't want that, then they're not actually hungry!
Yes, it's definitely a problem in our country. I've been learning that it's really hard for people to lose weight if they constantly have high insulin levels. Fasting allows insulin levels to go down so our bodies can burn fat as fuel, rather than carbs.
Since I started going to the gym in the morning I generally don’t eat breakfast until between 10 and 11 am. Sometimes I just eat two meals, brunch and dinner. So I fast from about 6;30 pm to 10:30 am on average most days and feel great.
It is so funny you brought this up today ❤ I have a long haired chihuahua who really likes to eat and after he is fed for the night. I always say “ Chip Carlos the kitchen is now closed” . It’s great advice for staying healthy for human and beast. I also lived in South America , 🇵🇾 where restaurants were closed from 12-3.
I grew up in Germany and it was the same, not much snacking and 3 mostly home cooked meals a day. The main meal was lunch time and a lighter meal at 6 or 7 pm. Maybe a fruit lateron if one felt like having something. As a child we weren’t even allowed to have a snack if it was to close to meal time. So yes it’s quite different in US
I started IF about 3 weeks ago and I love it! I had to wait until I was done breastfeeding. I started losing weight right away which is the biggest reason I'm doing it! I want to lose my baby weight similar to your story. Thanks for all the content and tips you share with us, Jennifer!
Thank you for this video. I always appreciate your wonderful content! I’ve been fasting since March 2019 and love this lifestyle. I would never go back to my old way of eating. I completely agree that fasting makes one feel healthier. Thank you for your tips to get through those early days. Completely off topic, but also appreciated the visual beauty of this because of how well your blouse coordinated with your kitchen. Made the whole experience even more serene, which is something that tends to stand out in your posts.
I grew up in England. We had breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. That's it, no snacks ever. In my early 20's I moved to France and have lived here for 35 years. The same rules apply here. My sons were born in France and are now in their early 30s. They have always done the same, as do all their friends - breakfast, proper lunch, when work allows, a pastry in the afternoon and then dinner. I go the the US several times a year for business. I'm amazed when I see restaurants open all day long, and often hotels have bowls of snacks available all day long. What happened to proper meal times?
I would be very curious to see what the eating habits of traditional French women are during pregnancy! I was doing intermittent fasting for a good year before expecting my third. I practice eating mostly protein, then fat, and fiber per meal. I don’t snack now even at 32 weeks pregnant. We don’t store food on our counter. It all gets put away in the pantry/fridge. My kitchen closes, even though it’s an open floor home. I turn the light off over the sink and all things get put away. Kids know what when the sink light is on, I’m intending to make our meal. A bit part of this too is that I have OTHER THINGS TO DO than constantly cook/eat/prepare food for myself or others.
“The kitchen is closed” was said time and time again by my grandparents! Lights were off; it was a vacant room unless actively preparing a meal or cleaning up.
This may have been said, but the “great room” open concept has incorporated the kitchen into the living area. Our first home had more traditional “separate” room setup. I couldn’t see the kitchen when in the family room. I think that helps. The kitchen in our current house is practically in the kitchen. That makes it more tempting to grab food at any time. I’ve been 16:8 for about 15 months and lost 40 pounds. I love the IF lifestyle but it takes some willpower to stay out of the kitchen😊
I grew up in Belgium and never had a problem with my weight. And you're right about the kitchen at the back of the house. It was for cooking and the meal was brought to the dining area. And we didn't snack, maybe a chocolate and a cup of coffee after dinner but after that nothing until breakfast
I have been doing IF for a little over a year now. I have seen some very good results. I have chosen this way of eating and I do feel better. I have taken IF as a way of life. My brother also does IF and he sticks to it. He's lost weight as well and looks great.
Thank you for sharing this. I used to snack years ago on chocolate. I have learned over the time not to do this anymore. After evening meal I don’t eat anything at all until the next day.
Thanks Jennifer! I’ve been doing IF for about 2.5 years, but sadly I’m still starving all morning til that 11:00 eating window starts. I sometimes have a hard time concentrating because of it, but I push through. I don’t know that I’ll ever reach the it-becomes-easy phase! But I persevere.
Take a look at Gin Stephens info on the clean fast. I found it makes a huge difference to have only black coffee, plain or sparkling unflavored water, and plain black or green tea during the fast. Anything else added triggers hunger.
You can maybe try to change your fasting window. You eat in the morning as your body needs and you stop eating earlier. Maybe that can work for you? If you try this please I'll be very excited to know how it works for you. Thanks!! 😉
I don't exactly do intermittent fasting but I eat an early dinner and then I don't eat after that. I have found that brushing my teeth helps and also I unplug and start getting ready for bed at 9 p.m. Watching tv or a movie can often make me want a snack so turning the screens off is helpful. I sometimes feel a little hungry but I just read my book and turn out the light and I know I will be healthier than if I ate a snack.
I really enjoyed this video! I wasn’t much of a snacked until I started breastfeeding! It made me so hungry and I ate constantly. I’m trying to implement IF and no snacks so this video was well timed!
Great video. I don't struggle with eating after dinner or with snacks. It's the morning window from rising to my eating window where I struggle . For many years I have eaten breakfast before getting ready for work, at 6am. I'm struggling to wait until 11. (11-6 is my eating window) . I can't adjust the back end of my eating window so 11 it is. I've had to ease into it , like starting at 9 , then 9:30 and i'm working my way to get to that 11am start time but i'm still struggling.
I’ve started IF on Monday, today is Sunday, and I’ve already lost 4.4 pounds 😮 I’m mind blown … That’s crazy. I told myself I wouldn’t weigh myself until I’m one month through but I caved in. I know that at some point I’ll lose less or I’ll reach a plateau. I’ll just stretch out my fasting hours to 18 or 19, I’m currently doing 17:7
looking beautiful Jennifer :) I like the idea of closing down my studio/office so I'm not tempted to work all hours... closing the kitchen is a great idea!
Very, very excellent video. Thanks for the reminder about not snacking. Always struggling with my weight I remember my mom putting me on my first “diet”. It was unhealthy but she always said stop snacking. She put me in 900 calories a day as a 12 year old. I dropped the weight. She eventually allowed me to have citrus between meals. But that “no snacking in between meals” mantra was always present. BTW I’m 68. 😊
Seems this simple change in closing the kitchen can bring big results. It does also seem other countries traditions make a big difference. Great ideas!
Thanks for a wonderful video! I have not had much success with IF because of food cravings - I plan to now close my kitchen and make IF part of my new lifestyle! Thanks for the encouraging word!❣️
Yes! I don’t IF but this is how I was raised. Besides a snack after school, my mom fed us three square meals and wouldn’t be okay with us snacking to then not be hungry at meal time!
Thankyou so much for this video which I really needed today! You are so right about the evening snacking - I remember my mother turning off the kitchen light after cleaning up & we children knew that was it until the morning!! I need to lose weight so intend to follow this "kitchen closed" rule to do something positive about my weight. Best wishes from Sydney Australia
Agree that F is possible. After doing this for a few years as well it just seems natural. I still sometimes need a snack between meals but try to make it healthy and so have been able to maintain proper weight. If you are thinking about it give it a try. Other benefits are better sleep , better digestion , and less aches and pains.
Bon jour Jennifer❣️I tried IF and found that I was hungry at night and couldn’t sleep well. I like the way that the French eat 3 meals a day with no junk food snacking. I enjoy watching Edukale and watching what Lucie’s mother eats for her 3 meals a day. Fasting occasionally is a good thing to do along with prayer to Jesus. God bless you and your family Jennifer❣️🥰💕🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️
Great advice. I’m a high school teacher and I observe my students snacking all day! Goldfish is a staple of their diet. Rarely do I see a lunchbox with healthy food choices
I did intermittent fasting growing up and didn't even realize it. I was healthy and had no weight or health issues. When I met my husband and his family, this gradually changed. I've recently gone back to it again. I had an interesting experience with my mother in law who berated me for not eating breakfast.
I have lost 60 pounds with fasting and low carb. Recently stress has been high, cortisol is high and I find myself gaining weight. My grown kids eat dinner late which adds to my lack of discipline. Thanks for your reminders!
I’ve done IF in the past as I had gestational diabetes and it does work. I love junk food and snacking but while doing IF I didn’t crave junk food. Once I fell off this wagon of IF, all the cravings and hunger and weight gain returned. It is hard to get on IF again.
Great video! I grew up with home cooked meals that were filling so that fasting from after dinner to breakfast is normal to me. If you needed a herbal tea, and that's it just like you said. With a nutritious meal you will feel full.
I started doing the 16:8 method. It’s a bit tuff in evenings I will admit lol. At 41 I’m seeing that honestly we all just need to eat less:). I have always eaten very healthy my entire life but I gained an extra 12/15 pounds of “ healthy” eating from I believe snacking and eating a bowl of cereal before bed or even to much fruit. I wasn’t eating chips and fish crackers, so it was hard for me to understand why I had this extra weight hanging around. Thanks for the advice of having tea at night to work through it!
I’m usually hungry after coming home from a long day at work and I’ll snack lightly on seaweed snacks, fruit or chicharron. I can usually eat some dinner after but won’t snack after dinner at least. But I do notice if I skip snacking period I do savor and enjoy my dinner meal much better.
After work is the worst for me, too! It takes so long to get supper ready and I AM STARVING! One thing that helps me is coming home to an already prepared meal in the crockpot. That way my husband and I can sit down right away to enjoy a meal. I need to get more creative and frequent with my crockpot!
@@leslieh3785 yes I agree I’m starving as well when I get home from a long day at work and have to snack a bit before getting dinner ready. I also try to use my crock pot as much as possible.
One must remember that everytime you eat that insulin is stimulated and thus fat may be stored and so eating as few times a day as possible is best. I have progressed to a narrow window for eating these days so I eat breakfast at 7 with a softboiled or poached egg, plain 1/2 C, full fat Siggis Yogurt topped with 1.2 C of frozen or fresh blue berries and topped with ground cinnamon. Lunch is a salad of organic spring mix lettuce topped wth an avacado and tuna salad, or perhaps a piece of cooked fish. I also try to do low carb. After 2 PM I do not eat any food at all, I do however drink iced tea that I make from scratch, or sparkling soda maybe a cup of espresso or coffee black and often over ice. I am never hungry and I really feel full enough not to eat. If I have an evening where I must eat later becuase I am dining with friends, then I adjust the schedule.
Thank you, Jennifer! Such great tips & points that were mentioned. Love the concept of "kitchen closed". I appreciate the time it took in making this video.
I enjoy having coffee (with a cream of some kind) in the evenings after dinner. I also find myself bringing a snack or more coffee to my desk while I am working (at home). That is a struggle for me!
I often think about the modern kitchen and I wish our homes were like many in Europe, closed off and separate. I cook and preserve a lot and with a big family it is so difficult to close the kitchen as much as I would like.
Seemingly, most Americans consider the Kitchen the heart of the home, In my opinion leads to disordered thinking and eating. The kitchen is where most people congregate and it is the room that typically faces the living room with the TV. Most people have been conditioned to eat whilst watching TV, and are used to the food in close proximity for easy access for mindless eating. The design of homes enable consumerist eating habits. Driveeating, talkeating, workingeating, playeating, studyeating, celebrateeating, rewardeating, sadeating, these all should be one word words because this is what is happening. People do just about every thing in the kitchen, like sit on the kitchen counters, do their hair there, homework, etc. Its not just for cooking or food storage or meal prep. I wouldn't be surprised if people started sleeping in the kitchen. It might be because of food insecurities and/or its a coping mechanism. People seems to be addicted to the dopamine they get from the kinds of consumables they eat. Just food for thought.
Thank you for this helpful and insightful video, Jennifer. I am new to IF and just starting out. I’ve been reading Gin Stephens’ book Fast, Feast, Repeat and I am finally motivated to give this an honest try. I’m especially interested in the herbal teas you featured and will check them out. Thank you again. Your journey is inspiring!
My kitchen is closed after dinner. If family want something, they have to get it! Since starting IF about one plus year ago, I never feel hungry, I feel better, look better and I am more sensible about what I eat. As a bonus, I way much less without dieting. In March I started a sensible regime and my muscle density has increased! In a nut shell, IF is not a diet, but a way of life!!

She is a wise lady!
Wish I was more like your mom for sure!
Same here my Mom is 95 and she stays between 113 and 118 at the most. She never was a snacker.
I've been doing IF for years now. It's helped me pull myself out of obesity and now out of the overweight category. I love IF!
I love it!
That's amazing! What was your IF schedule? And how long did it take to get out of the obese category?
@tonimt1712 Thanks! I started off strict w/clean KETO + IF on an OMAD schedule. I threw in long fasts as well (48 hr +). It took about 1 year to get out of obesity. Once out of obesity, I started varying my fasts.
@EE-hi4re Did you exercise along with it? Either way, congrats on your success and health journey!
@tonimt1712 Actually, at first no. Then, at some point, I added in strength training. I do walk and have always walked. Thank you!
❤
Well said! ❤
Totally agree!
I have also used the brush and floss method to avoid eating later! It is very effective!
Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.
Quote of the day ! Thanks, friend. 😊🎉
Nursing takes continuous calories and nutrients from our body; if we don’t replace these, the nursing sucks the minerals from our bones and organs.
A lot of ads on TV between shows are either for unhealthy food or ads for medicating poor food choices! It seems to be by design.
I think postpartum/nursing it's totally normal to need food more often.
I am unable to sleep if I am hungry. Does that mean I should eat more at dinner?
I began fasting after I began watching Dr. Fung on RUclips. It’s been a life save. I’ve lost my last 30 pounds.
I love that ♥
You're so right!
No snacking saves money -treat yourself to a massage after losing the weight!
So true. All those snacks can be expensive!
I am also doing IF and love it. It is wonderful not to be fixated on food. I do not live to eat but rather eat to live. IF is freeing!!!
The color of your blouse looks fabulous on you!
Thank you!
Hubby needs to take his diabetes meds at night with a light snack. Other than that, he doesn't snack.
@@anniehosfeld59can you try to incorporate more exercise to compensate for the midnight snack?
How do you remind yourself on days you don't wear make up?
Oh, yes this does not apply to our children. They are growing and need more food sometimes. I think your rituals of brushing your teeth and getting ready for bed are helpful cues for your body.
@@kristinakovalenko4007brush and floss teeth.
This video made me laugh. My stepmom is French and she ALWAYS used to say, "The kitchen is closed". :)
Are you joking when you say professional snacker? If no, how do I become one 😅
Same in our family. This doesn't apply to the children.
So ask them to wash the dishes before bed or in the morning? Don’t wash them before breakfast
@@21972012145525 you’d think. It’s usually my husband, sometimes by teenager but it’s easier to just wash them as keep the peace.
Hi! I am French, live in France you are absolutely correct👍🏻
Same here! My life is NOT all about food. I’m so tired of this fad where food is life.
I enjoy chocolate still but I try to make it intentional. The problem comes with the unconscious snacking...
You absolutely will get there! Look up the types of foods, teas and supplements you can have to support your appetite. I will get easier.
Take a look at Gin Stephens info on the clean fast. I found it makes a huge difference to have only black coffee, plain or sparkling unflavored water, and plain black or green tea during the fast. Anything else added triggers hunger.
Hi If you eat more protein rich foods & healthy fats during the day it might help. If u eat low fat swap to full fats & u might feel more satisfied.😍
You can maybe try to change your fasting window. You eat in the morning as your body needs and you stop eating earlier. Maybe that can work for you?
If you try this please I'll be very excited to know how it works for you. Thanks!! 😉
Such great advice! Thank you for the reminder as snacking is definitely the culprit of weight gain for me!
Awesome keep going!
looking beautiful Jennifer :) I like the idea of closing down my studio/office so I'm not tempted to work all hours... closing the kitchen is a great idea!
this was awesome - yes I am adopting the kitchen closed method --geez it seems so simple, but I can imagine how successful that can be
Very, very excellent video.
This was very helpful! Plz make more motivating videos on in-between meal snacking. I need more encouragement. TY
Thank you , I needed to hear this information about snacking. I'M A BIG SNACKER. Getting ready to start the fasting life style
Beautiful outfit! 😍😍😍😍
I have similar satin top and the colour is also in greenish side. Now I will copy this style thank you❤
Lovin that color nail polish, since I don't like red? It's perfect💅
Just listening to Fast Feast Repeat and decided to check you tube for the best fasting window for me- this popped up on my feed first! Must be a sign!
How do you determine the best fasting window?
I love the concept of the kitchen being closed!
I started IF one week now, and already I feel great.
Tried Pique green tea on a glucose monitor… my Dr and I can’t understand why my sugar response went through the roof.
