Even though tutorial is like 3y old and there are bunch of those D&B tutorials over RUclips, I find this one is a gold! I do believe it is important to answer question "why" and tip about bigger parts first really helped me to not waste time on doing micro for hours and still not getting desired outcome
This is, by far, the BEST tutorial I've until now. WOW! And I mean all of your tutorials as a whole. Thank you so much for this content and knowledge that even at an art school I couldn't get. Thank you!
Thank you for the detailed and relaxed style of instructions. I could follow along without getting aggravated with myself because I couldn't keep up. So many videos seem to rush you through the instruction
Very nice photography and detail to begin with. Dodge and Burning is something you just have to do continue to practice. I'm glad to see you using the settings that i JUST LEARNED a month ago (changing "flow" instead of "opacity")
ive watched hundreds of these type of videos, but your technique was the first informative, concise, and clear version i've ever been able to really replicate. thank you so much for taking the time to improve others.
OMG, this is the first time I can clearly understand Dodge n Burn technique. Zoe, your an amazing master, you make it simple and extremely clear. And english is not even my first language!! Thank u so much! You should have millions of subscribers!! Thanks God I found you! Keep doing, please, your help is invaluable. ❤️
Brilliant video. Extremely useful. I would love to see the dodge and burn process entirely rather than it being fast forwarded. I feel most videos always forward that part but I feel that whenever i dodge and burn, my images turn out blotchy and i know im doing something wrong. A non fastforwarded video would be nice to clear out what i am doing wrong
Zoe, your videos are some of the best content I've ever seen. Extremely relevant. Please don't stop. Please continue to share this knowledge. Maybe you have no idea how you transform people's lives with your knowledge. You have helped me to be a better professional. Gratitude! God bless you Zoe.
By far, one of the most useful and best explained tutorials. I greatly appreciate your time to share your knowledge. Thank you very much, greetings from Argentina.
Absolutely phenomenal tutorial. These would be some of the best on youtube for newcomers to the program or retouching, very clear and informative while being easy to follow and understand.
Cannot wait for more videos! I am not at all familiar with retouching skin and this has given me an amazing place to start. Really enjoying it and wanting to shoot more stuff! Thank you so much for posting these! You do an excellent job at explaining each step.
Thank you Zoe for your brush settings. For years I’ve used the default brush settings with horrible results. Once I made the proper adjustments to my brushes, I instantly saw the results I was looking for in my work. Thank you! Sincerely, Warren
Thank you so much. This help me a lot. I like how you explain it really clear for what and why but also keep it simple and easy to understand. I am new to D&B and your videos save me!
The second I saw this photo, I couldn't get over it. It's the color and the lighting and her look, I'm very curious to how you capture this, any chance you do a tutorial or a workshop of how you shoot your portrait? Love your tutorial btw, thank you.
Thank you Zoe, learned a lot here, very generous of you to share. I am really looking forward to the next stage of correcting colour as this is where I need help the most.
Hi Zoe :) Really an interesting video. I saw your work, I immediately fell in love with it. I have been practicing the technique for almost a year but I continue to flatten too much. I would like to raise my awareness of the bone structure. do you have any links to recommend to educate my eyes? thank you so much
Hi Dylan! Thank you! I don't have links as I would recommend reading high-end fashion magazine (Vogue European versions) and study the images as these are the best retouching in the world. If you're flattening too much then you might be over dodging and burning so don't zoom in too far. Only retouch to the intended output so if the image is for instagram or web you shouldn't be zooming in too close. Hope this helps!
Great tutorial! Never tried the curves technique before, but I will definitely try it out now. It looks so much easier and controlled as well. I'm looking forward for the second part! Thank you for sharing, not many people do! ;) Kind regards, Lia.
Hello, just found this channel! That was a great video, thank you :) I noticed that the burning process introduced a grey cast to the side of her nose and was wondering how to fix that to be more skin toned? Thank you!
Thank you for this great video! Looking forward to see more. maybe about the Liquify tool? I wanted to know if you use the frequency seperation at all, since a lot of other people do it. (But I learned it is the cheaper way of doing it). And if you use it, when to apply this technice?

This is amazing! I've been following a workflow that's a complete waste of time for months! Thanks to you, my work will be much faster now. Thank you so much for this
Wow, that 14 minutes just zipped by! Another wonderful and informative production. I'm often intimidated by incredibly complex Photoshop can be, but I love how approachable you made this technique.Thank you again, Zoë!
Zoe, I want to thank you for producing your videos, because you spell out which step to take first. Sometimes that is the hardest place to start, knowing where to start. Thanks for your guiding hand...
Zoë have you ever tried using a solid color adjustment as a help layer instead of hue/saturation ? Set the color to black, change blend mode to color. Pratik Naik uses this method to help seeing the tonal differences. This technique prevents color shifting.
Thank you so much for this, watched it with the 'cleaning' tutorial and it's changed my approach to editing. So well explained and the best voice on RUclips! Awesome accent
That was great detailed video! More tools to add on my editing tool belt! I wish you hadn't sped up in the burning and work as normal with commentary as its helpful to hear/see why you make certain editing choices. Some of the edits seem so minute and subtle i would have loved to hear your thoughts of why or how youre making the artistic decisions. Sometimes i feel one has to be a makeup artist when editing faces or a portrait painter/sketch artist.
Hello ma'am!Thank you so much for sharing the dodge and burn technic. Its really powerfull and I do my photos with only your technic.we need an other part that is Global D & G. please make a video on that.We will be very great full.Thank you again..🌠🌠🌠😇
Thank you once again Zoë! My workflow is pretty much exactly as yours but it is nice to see someone like your self who has mastered it at work. Can't wait for the D&B contouring video! :)
Great video - refreshing to hear someone who knows what they are talking about! What are your thoughts on setting the curves layers to 'luminosity' to avoid the colour shifts that take place?
Wow! Your series on retouching is very helpful. I've created an action for me to save time and also to practice. Is there any news/update on the GLOBAL D&B video you mention on the end?
Hey Andreas thats great to hear! That video will come but I promise you it's not the most important thing in retouching. If anything I'm doing this less and less and just ensuring I have even tones and add a general contrast to the image at the end. Sometimes you can go too far with global D&Bing and it just looks too fake. But will do a tut for sure!
Your videos are outstanding. I have never seen a tutorial so easy to follow and so helpful! So excited for the color correction tutorial coming up, thanks for making these videos! :)

Beautifully done and very helpful. Dealing with the color shift was especially useful. Thank you for your clarity and detail.
You could also use luminosity blend mode on the curves layer
Thank you for the detailed and relaxed style of instructions. I could follow along without getting aggravated with myself because I couldn't keep up. So many videos seem to rush you through the instruction
So glad you enjoyed this Lynne! I really try and speak a lot slower for sure as it does help!
Very nice photography and detail to begin with. Dodge and Burning is something you just have to do continue to practice. I'm glad to see you using the settings that i JUST LEARNED a month ago (changing "flow" instead of "opacity")
Thank you!

Hi Zoe :) Really an interesting video.

Hello, just found this channel! That was a great video, thank you :) I noticed that the burning process introduced a grey cast to the side of her nose and was wondering how to fix that to be more skin toned? Thank you!
Thanks! you can add a Hue/Sat layer and clip it to the Dodge or Burn layer and then desat/sat depending on what is needed :)
Thank you for this great video! Looking forward to see more. maybe about the Liquify tool?
I wanted to know if you use the frequency seperation at all, since a lot of other people do it. (But I learned it is the cheaper way of doing it). And if you use it, when to apply this technice?
