I've used this before just for interest (I was bed bound for 10 years) but... Back in the 1990's while I was in the RAF I was granted access to historical Arial photographs of the UK going back to the late 1920's and especially the 1930's right up to the 1990's. We used to search for Roman buildings by the crop/ground markings. The 1930's pictures where phenomenally clear and where taken much lower than from the 1940s onwards. We found quite a few particularly in Cumbria where I'm originally from, but they could be difficult to locate when your on the ground, there wasn't commercially available GPS at the time. Great video Cleggy, you've reawoken my interest again CHEERS 👍 Charlie 🇬🇧
@@jameslusco7256 if your ever over I'm moving back up North as soon as I find a suitable property. I live in Cambridgeshire at the moment and dug up a 1670 coin in my front yard the other month. There's a short video on my channel, there's only 3 videos so not hard to find 🤣
Hi Charlie, I found this site the other day for old 1930's photo's historicengland.org.uk/images-books/archive/collections/aerial-photos/?fbclid=IwAR0Px1endY8NrnhqUM9kTZ7vJNd967nRbvRQrDYwdmTmV-MgGAIjmDkHgDs
WOW Cleggy! That viewshed demo was AMAZING! Thanks for sharing...I'm in the US and we don't have any history so it's not much use here but for England and Europe ....what a tool!
just downloaded Google Earth Pro! I've used the Historical Aerial View website for ages! Hoping this will expose some new areas for me to detect! Thanks Cleggy!
Grate video cleggy I think with all this info you know about Google Earth you will defiantly locate something fantastic with your metal detector one day! 😀👍
Great programme Cleggy, unfortunately I don't have a computer only a android phone so unable to upgrade to Google earth pro. Nevermind I'll just have to keep digging the shotties.👍
Don't need anything like this, a little bit of regional knowledge and chatting with the locals always puts you in the right direction most of the time.

Very interesting. You chaps make this American jealous of your great history. I love the UK and history in it's ground. I can't wait to go.

A lot of sites have already been noted by Archaeologists and you won't be allowed to detect those sites as they are protected.
