- The VW IDR was an instant modern legend when it burst onto the scene, and went on to dominate the Pikes Peak hillclimb, the Nurburgring lap record, and even Goodwood Hill at the Festival of Speed. And now thanks to GT7's September 1.23 update, it has made its debut in the Gran Turismo series.
But now that its here, does this 670 horsepower EV bring enough performance to the table to counter its limited top speed and battery range when compared to conventional ICE alternatives (like the equally bonkers Suuzki Escudo)? Well, let's find out...

Hey man, idk if you get to read this, but I'll still try: I genuinely HATE the fact that electric cars can only participate in onemake races in the custom race settings (if you're the one driving them). I've never seen any GT content creator speak about this and I'd love it if PD "fixed" this issue. Custom races are my main source of entertainment in GT7 and I hate seeing all this wasted potential.
Oh yes! Could not agree more. Onemake races are stupidly boring and there would be some good contenders like the Escudo.
Agree, they could just copy them getting fuel like a normal car (when in the pits) I really don't care, just let's us drive them
@@emilskjaerlund4091 Or they could just automatically deactivate fuel and make it infinite. So many possibilities but they chose the WORST ONE. Same with karts. I wanna race my 125cc shifter against my cars goddamnit!

You can run the Tesla and the Taycan in regular road car events.
I took it straight to Sardegna for the grind and it ran out of juice after one lap. 2 million credits of unusable pointlessness.

I applaud PD for having EVs in the game, kids gotta learn cars can be cool and fast without going "Brooooooom" and guzzling ton of gas.
They could gave done a better job making the cars more "useful" in the game though, e.g. by having dedicated events for them where the low range / battery capacity isn't a disadvantage.
Oh, well baby steps I guess.
@@macsmith2013The thing with video games is that regardless if people drive an EV or gas powered car there's no real world consequences because the virtual world is completely immune to runaway greenhouse effects and all of that shit going on in real life.
A 950pp EV challenge would be nice on the condition that it pays at least 550,000cr before clean race bonus.
Let's make every race in the game a meta race like in every other racing game... oh wait.
These cars are high class so an event would have to be rewarding enough.

This car is an absolute weapon. Took near my top times at Bathurst last night. Easy to drive and confidence inspiring. The Porsche is wicked too. Couple of amazing cars even if EV.
Love this car for its real world accolades. Not terribly excited about ev racing as a whole.
0:27 “…it’s a fantastic surprise…” Nailed it! The surprise is realising you just wasted 2m cr on a car that has no practical use in the game atm. Very quickly after purchasing and testing, figured out iD.R is short for iDon’t.Race.

This car would be my absolutely favorite would it have an engine or an update which gives erlectric cars the same fule map then not ma cars like 5-10 rounds because it looks so beautiful
It's a damn shame that you can't put more power or a custom gearbox on any of the EVs in gt7. It makes most of them near unviable for practical situations. This car with a longer gear ratio and a few hundred more hp could compete with gr1 cars. And the taycan or model s could probably do well in some road car events.
Also I'd recommend checking out this car for some of the amazing group c car liveries people have put on it (the headlights are stickers that get removed so it's easy to completely transform the car). Personally I'm a big fan of the Peugeot livery.
definitely some reworks that should be made for EV cars, but I like how this thing drives

@@georgevasilopoulos5359It drives in a similar fashion to how the Jag VGT SV performs, except that you don't have to worry about lighting up the tires every time you floor it
I struggle with electric cars in GT because I take my speed cues from the engine noise and gear I need for the corners and I haven't been able to translate that over to electric. I always find myself too fast or too slow for the corners. Maybe there is a technique that I don't know about or is it just the need to look at the speedo more? :) Great review btw!
I really like the game and the cars they PD added every month , but this car almost useless, same as the Escudo and the Mc Laren , it's sucks to detune the cars and race against Gr.3 cars !! This game need much more events! But I think everyone in the community knows about the problems. Btw great video, really like and enjoy your content!!

That makes it useless for the 800PP Championship,just as the small battery does for every other 800PP race in the game.
Love the car, but it's such a waste.
I'd love to have a kind of endurance version with let's say 250kg more, but about triple the range.

No special EV event and what's worse, I simply can't implement this car in any other event.

It's great to see the VW IDR in GT7. Personally I think it looks great and it highly resembles the looks of the new hypercars in the WEC. I do have a quick question however, can you use this car in your own custom race events? I'm asking because apparently someone said PD have brought in a rule where no electric cars can race in custom race events, is this true?
I'm gonna be completely honest here, I was not impressed by this car and the updates free cars, I saw them and honestly was like, "oh wow, more electric cars, whoop de freakin' doo.....", The Silvia was the best one there, but damn it impress me, if you can add Senna's classic McLaren, the classic Escudo, a classic Pontiac GTO, Porsche 919, Silhouette Skyline, a vintage Maserati, a Toyota Hypercard, then they can add a whole lot more than that, like LMP900 cars, more JGTC cars, not just GT500 cars, but GT300 cars as well, The new upcoming Mustang and it's Race car that'll be released in the near future, hellcat and demon Challengers and Chargers, Koenigsegg's, classic Rally cars from GT2 to GT4, nostalgic JDM cars, Nascar's Next Gen cars, classic Gen 4 NASCAR Stock cars, Indycar, nostalgic Gran Turismo Original tracks like Autumn Ring, Midfield, Apricot Hill, Special Stage Routes 5 and 11, Sebring, Road Atlanta, Road America, current F1 tracks, past F1 tracks, more Rallycross events and tracks, IMSA race cars, DPi's and LMDH cars, more returning classics from GT2 and GT3, even more options on livery editor and good endurance races

The worst part about this car is the fact that you can’t do anything with it but time trials and custom events. It’s useless, which is the reason why I’m annoyed that there isn’t any kind of one make races for it.
Also, is anyone gonna talk about the fact that two of the most iconic tracks in the world only have 4x races between them? (LeMans and Monza)
This car completely gets ride of my grip with electric cars in this game…which is the brake. The brakes are just shit in all the electric cars (i’m guessing because of the regen system dampening the brakes) but ID-R stops on a dime.

Nope so pretty much 2 million just to practice and custom races with it and that's it
@@sidvicious58- pretty disappointing! I’m still gonna buy it but they really need to add some more single player stuff. So many of the electric and hybrid cars are unusable in the game.

But you should get it anyway because it will make me feel better knowing that someone else has been robbed of 2m credits 🤦♀️
@@b0ngjamesb0ng- this is kind of stupid but I was actually able to beat the Monza 800pp event with this car.
By coasting a lot and cutting all the chicanes- stopping every 2 laps to charge the battery.
@@sidvicious58- I finally had time to get the car and try it out. You can actually beat the Monza 800pp race with it (by cutting chicanes and coasting). And also the World GT series championship (since there’s no gas consumption in that race).
This car is BRILLIANT.
