How the Volkswagen I.D. R is quicker than an F1 car

- The Volkswagen I.D. R has taken the world by storm, breaking records anywhere it lays its four wheels. Big power, lightweight materials and all the aero you could ever hope for makes it lightning quick, and in some fields even quicker than an F1 car. Mike gives us the lowdown on this all-electric weapon.

LOL. This. No electric car can run for 24hrs none stop. Batteries aren't power dense enough and recharging takes ages.
@@Bahamuttiamat Recharging, yes. Switching batteries can take less than a minute if they manage to make a system to take them out and put the new ones. I would like to see an EV class at Le Mans. Stimulus to solve the engineering challenges of battery heat management, battery swap-out vs recharging, use of super-capacitors to recapture breaking energy, etc.
New Lotus Evija could be in it!
Here here sista 👍🏾😁
EV at LeMans would ran out of power very, very quickly. There are just 14 breaking zones there. Even in few years it will be the same.
They would have to pit every 4 laps or so and swap the batteries. As far as I know, recharging is pretty much out of the window, that's not an engineering challenge, it's just physically impossible. I guess if you build the car for it, swapping out the batteries in about the same time as you change the tires should be possible... it would be possible for road cars if the manufacturers could be bothered to agree on standardized battery sizes, you'd just pull up at the right spot at the fuel station, press a button, empty battery goes out, full one goes in. If they had done that, petrol/diesel engines would probably be done by now...

That extra torque and no need to shift and critical when accelerating out of a corner.
This wont even beat the F1 2019 Williams car
Williams wouldn't complete the lap to save parts... Looking at the nurburging lap average speed particularly during cornering, actually in a really technical track like Hungaroring the car may actually beat an F1 car, but that's with regulations, letting any F1 car run at full power and it will obliterate anything without breaking a sweat... It's not really about whether or not the car is faster, but how far electric cars have come and that's a nice thing to see.
Anybody can beat Williams. I can still beat them in my 2011 Chevy Malibu! 😂😂😂
I doubt that to be honest
@@cesargarciaalbarran337 no, its to heavy. There is not a single track layout in the F1 calendar that would favor this car over an F1 car. An F1 car still has more down force too. This car would have less drag to but fair but F1 cars have more HP and again less mass. The only thing this car has is its of the grid faster. F1 cars have almost 2 times the lateral cornering g forces. There is not a single chance in the world that it comes anywhere close to them. The title of this video is click bait. The tracks that you would aim to beat f1 cars at are actually the high speed ones like monza and spa because for the low speed ones mass matters more than power. Marponsa Even with rules, modern Formula 1 cars are a lot faster than the VW IDR. The only thing the IDR might have on the modern F1 car is 0 to 60mph time. Top speed of IDR: approx 175mph, F1 car: just over 230mph. Cornering is faster with F1 car as well because of the weight. As far as actual lap time in the Nurburgring Nordschleife a F1 car would lap it in probably just over 5 minutes but the IDR, over 6 minutes. Hell, I don't even think the IDR can compete with modern LM cars on most tracks. The IDR is slower because of the limitations of making an electric vehicle.

Nope. 919 Evo was 2 tenths slower around spa than Lewis Hamilton's *2018* pole lap.
Edit: I remembered wrongly when I originally wrote this, checked and found out it was actually Sebastian Vettel's 2018 *Q2* time, not HAM's pole.
