Personally I know parents whose kids had nightmares for weeks after the original school burned down. Was a very very traumatic event for all involved. It’s just lucky that most everyone was outside at recess when the fire broke out as the outcome could have been very dramatically different had everyone been inside at the time given the design of the original building and the explosiveness of the fire itself. Luckily now not only does the replacement building have sprinklers but also far better fire separation so a fire can be easily contained to a small area while in it’s early stages. No doubt about it the dry wood frame of the original building (built in the early 60’s) played a huge role in the fire’s outcome where as now the new school is all steel and concrete. The kids there are very lucky also to have yourself and Jamie making sure that system continues to work well to this day.
Sprinklers definitely make a huge difference the building is still a wood frame structure we don't use block construction much as it does not hold up as well in seismic movement however wood frame structure with fire blocking and properly sealed walls is still good
We watched videos of this fire for America’s fire prevention week back in my elementary school days (2004-2010). Definitely drilled home the importance of taking fire drills seriously
I actually watched these videos on RUclips for the first time today and also after what I saw while I was at work and other workers as well, watching a 5th wheel trailer or motor home catch on fire 🔥. My first thought was coughing and asking "What's that smell," and how it smelled like smoke. My second thought was "glad that wasn't us", third "hopefully their insurance company can cover it" and finally "the important thing is that we survived".
So sad what happened to the old building in 2004, did they also say they had a school pet? Gut wrenching!!! New school looks great looking at this video! I went to school in England as I was born here and it was very boring compared to US&Canada schools
Great video! i really like your new video editing style! nice school. are you gonna do the sprinkler of this school, if yes, when are you gonna do it or post the video? Cant wait for the other annuals. keep up the great work!
5:36 what a smug jerk. Why is he smiling? Acknowledges sprinklers make a considerable difference but no effort will be made to retrofit existing schools with them. Hopefully he got fired.
It's not his fault he didn't make the codes. if the government cared they would give funding for retrofitting systems however typically it is only done if seismic upgrades are done hoping someone gets fired who doesn't get to make the decision seems extreme

I feel like my school is breaking the law now from not have sprinklers but its probably because we don't live in the same country but we also have stuff like blast doors everywhere as well as pull stations and alarms and smoke detectors in every corner of the building

We don't use simplex anymore because too many problems and ripped off customers to many times they are going extinct here so you don't see them much anymore
It was a total loss, all of it burned down, the fire got so big that they couldn't put it out so they had to just keep it contained and let the school burn unfortunately, so there was no chance of renovation and/or restoration
that old heat sensor you used the heat gun on we have to replace with the new self restting kind the old ones once the head pops off and it sounds the alarm you have to replace it the new ones you dont 99% of the time :)
